The new Buddha

Meditation is quite good. I use it a lot, personally. I don't get a heightened sense of awareness, but i do feel a lot calmer - which is good enough for me.

EPIC BUMPAGE

He's back!

Buddha boy in Nepal re-emerges after a year
KATMANDU, Nepal (AP) — A teenage boy who many believe is the reincarnation of Buddha has re-emerged from the jungle in southern Nepal, attracting thousands of devotees, officials said Tuesday.
After retreating into the jungle for more than a year, Ram Bahadur Bamjan, 18, re-emerged Monday near Nijgadh town, about 100 miles (160 kilometers) south of the capital, Katmandu.
Upon hearing the news, thousands of Bamjan's followers, some from as far away as India, traveled to the site Tuesday to see him, police official Abhaya Joshi said by telephone.

Omg relevent necromancy

This is a first.

I saw the thread title and I was like "Omg, I don't remember posting in this... Did I sleep post?" Then I came in and realized that I posted in it 3 years ago.

15 was soo long ago. D:

dude, not funny. :|

Not biologically possible for humans. That's just rediculous. It's not even scientifically possible, or physically possible, or what-have-you. These aren't the biggest reasons as to why, but for example how can he not dry out? It looks pretty hot in that picture (which doesn't really have much of an effect, it is inevitable water evaporates) You can't just sit there for 6 months and not die from lack of food to keep the body going, or water to keep the body hydrated.

You don't even need know much about science to see that it's not possible.

Muffin Man, you have a twisted mind. I would stop playing violent video games if I were you. And yes I'm being completely serious here, although you may not go on a killing spree as some morons *cough* might suggest, I do believe your sense of violence and how your mind works has been effected. I suspect you are young too, which would make you further susceptable to this.

I know your posts are 3 years old, but I'd REALLY like to know what Muffin Man said.

I was so confused reading this, I didn't realize it was necro and I was scratching my head thinking "I could have sworn that there was a thread with this identical OP years ago"...

So I guess the kid's not dead :D

Maaaaaan, I remember this thread. I remember all those people. Oh maaaaaaaaaaaan.

I don't know exactly what he has done, but I often find stuff like this to be pretty stupid.

If all you do is starve yourself and deny yourself certain pleasures to reach self enlightenment, well... I find that to be mighty selfish tbh.

Granted, if you do that and help people, you're A-Okay. However it seems to me a lot of people who do things like this are trying to go for the martyr effect, "Oh look at me, so wow how I starve myself". Imagine the things you could be doing that really show your devotion, image the people you could be helping... but instead it's wasted with this crap.

It's in the same way for people who pray their asses off but never actually do anything. Or Christians who give up eating meat on Fridays during lent (I'm sure Jesus is so honored).

Granted, I'm not pissing away fasting and self enlightenment.
But only fasting is just not pragmatic.

Obviously fake, theres no vaild sources and confirmations that he has actually been sitting there for 6 months without once eating/drinking/take a shit... theres no 24/7 survelliance. I smell bullshit...

EDIT:

HOLY **** THIS THREAD IS OLD

Yes. Buddhism is a load of crap and this guy is either a con-man or delusional.

You're probably right about him being a con man. He wouldn't be the first to pull something like that off. The first part of your statement is epic wrong though.

And, yes, officially it isn't a religion, but most people in Asia treat it as such.

Because of course, the idea that if people weren't greedy or vain the world would be a better place is crap.

As is this.

And this.

I think the message it portrays is good, but i dont think you need any form of "religion" or whatever you want to call it, to practice that belief. It should simply be a standard of all morality. I dont understand why people need to base their beliefs and morals on certain religions/philosophies, when they can just come straight from their heart without any kind of social community or whatever you might call it. I believe that the world would be a better place if people were less greedy, but i dont need to establish a freaking religion around it. If everyone just took all these good beliefs and morals and accepted them as how the standard of life should be, without identifying oneself to a certain group, the world would be an even better place.

Bhuddist sits in his 3rd hour of prayer, saying "if people weren't greedy or vain the world would be a better place" and then spends another hour doing meditating and something ritual.

Me: Im eating my hotdog on the other side of the street listening to my ipod and reading the news while thinking " if people weren't greedy or vain the world would be a better place", and then actually go out somewhere and try to fullfill that belief, instead of sitting in awkward positions on a floor for hours...

Damn straight.

*sits and meditates for three hours*

Btw how exactly can you fulfil a belief that makes other people less greedy or vain?

Talking about it with other people, like we are doing right now. Simple act of talking and sharing thoughts about it spreads the beliefs because it makes people think about it themselves, and they in turn will spread it, and overall people will become less greedy, hopefully.

he was partying whit the girls raised by wolfs :naughty:

he could be dead...just sitting in the tree rotting...does anybody know if the kid is still alive?
Well, being dead wouldn't exactly hurt his case. With Buddha being a deity and all.

It's easier to forcibly convert you to Buddhism. DO IT YOU HEATHEN

I love the idea of Militant Buddhists.

Although somebody will undoubtadly point out that they exist. Do they? I don't know.

Christianity has teachings along those lines too, look at how most of those guys behave, and how most of us here view it.

Holy shit old thread is old. I kept ignoring this thread in the New Posts page though I was curious as to why it said I had posted it, so I went in and I realize this is that one thread from sooo long ago, though I didn't think it was THAT long ago! Almost 3 years, my god. I would have guessed like mid 2007 or something.

Though when I actually read my post I can see clearly this was made a long time ago. /facepalm at self

It isn't, but I don't need bullshit mysticism or holy men in robes to tell me this.

And for god's sake, meditation is just a placebo, and fasting has been known for decades to improve health simply because it lowers metabolism.

The little nuggets of obvious truth in religion are far outweighed by the amount of nonsense and bullshit you have to forcibly shove down your throat to believe them. I can believe in altruistic philosophy and do things that are healthy using humanism and science, and without accepting supernatural, mystical garbage.
