The OFFICIAL "show off your christmas avatar" thread

It's odd. When I try to put any form of red in my avatar, it shows up as brown.

Because you're editing it in indexed colors mode.

GIFs use color indexes. They can only have 256 colors. When your gif was made, a palette of 256 colors was created for the image, consisting of 256 or less colors that you see in your gif. You need to put your editing program out of indexed mode (or copy and paste the image data into a new non-gif image) otherwise it will just pick the nearest color in the index to what you selected.

I had planned on it.

I'll get around to it.

that'd be a hell of a gif to add a santa hat too.

Nomad's be difficult too.

Looks like there's mucus spewing out of your panda's nose, Shaker.

Nah, Nomad's would be pretty easy. I'd do it if he asked me.

Edit: Whelp I decided to go oldschool because it was too hard.

Love it.

can someone give my cat a christmas outfit? :)
ha. yours would look funny because of the expression - "I hate Christmas hats"

I want to put a hat on mine, but I've been pretty busy.

I was going to say, have one hat that sits on the top of a cube as it goes around, but...

Uh...

...Uh...

Cutest god damn thing you've ever seen.

How am I ever going to christmasify my avatar?

Well, its a triangle, you cold make the squares red and put a white bit on the end, and around the base.

Also, I can't save my avatar so the background is transparent, anyone know how?

I erased it in photoshop (when the checkboards come up) and then saved as GIF, but when I upload it to hl2.net it turns white :( (note: on my desktop, the preview has a transparent background?

How about this?

PJ, is your source image 70x70 or smaller?

If it's larger then HL2.net has to resize it, and that kills the transparency (and any animation for that matter).

Also I foresee it not looking too great with transparency. Hard transparency (unlike smooth with PNG) only really looks good with pixel art, not erased edges of photographs or something. Something that has defined hard edges to begin with.

God damn i love you. My image was too big.

Still not perfect, gonna fix now.

That actually looks pretty good, you pulled it off well.

Changed the background of mine.

Wow, thanks veggies!
Just wondering, how did you make it and which program? I stole the 'original' from the internet so I didn't make it myself.

Background?
Yyyyyeeeaaaaahhhh...

...

Awkward.

I just recolored it.

I know its shit lol. It's surprisingly hard to find a decent christmassy background.

Your giffing skills are much superior to mine.

Do you use Photoshop? That's what I use generally, even though its probably not the best option.

I used flash to make my avatar.

I usually use flash to put santa hats on avatars. Then I export the frames and compile them in Animation Shop 3 to a gif.

With Dinn's I just opened the GIF in Animation Shop and did some recoloring.

Edit: Woah, PJ, I just downloaded your gif to look at how you made the transparency so smooth and I see you have smooth transparency, multiple alpha levels!? I didn't know you could do that with gifs... wtf.

I just tried making a gif like that in GIMP and it came out with just either full alpha or transparent... wtf again

Your image is like a PNG or something, yet somehow it calls itself a gif. Maybe it's a bug on hl2.net. Come to think of it I saw that on Mikael's avatar too.

Couldn't help myself.

Props to Veggies.

I hope this is good.

I also fixed some problems with missing pixels.

Make me a Christmas avatar. Please.

But of my old avatar would be cool.

Much props to anyone who puts a hat on my French timetraveller. Black and white would be cool.
