A couple of features I err... borrowed from the site I'm moderating.
The reputation system
Its also known as karma. This is a way for members to show their approval or disapproval of one of your posts or your general behaviour on the forums. The reputation level of any user can is represented by the little dots displayed next to the user’s post count. There are two kinds of reputation, the good and the bad. The [LittleGreenBox] symbolises good reputation whereas th [LittleRedBox] symbolises bad reputation. The number of dots denotes how high or low the user’s reputation level is. Each level of reputation is associated with a message. This message can be viewed when holding your mouse over the reputation dots and changes when the user reaches a new level. If you do not want to have your reputation made public, go to your 'User Control Panel' and find the link labelled 'Edit Options' found under 'Settings & Options' or simply click here. Here you can un-tick the box labelled 'Show My Reputation Level'. Here you can also see your precise number of reputation points. If you disable this option, your reputation dots will be replaced with a single [LittleBlackBox]. On the main page of your 'User Control Panel', you can see the latest reputation points you have received, the time and date you received them, the post you have received them from and a comment made by the person who added to your reputation. Only Advanced Members and members of the staff have the ability to see who added to their reputation. Next to the individual reputation post you can see what kind of reputation you have received. [LittleGreenBox] symbolises good reputation, [LittleRedBox] symbolises bad reputation and [LittleEmptyBox] symbolises that the user who tried to add to your reputation in any way didn’t have enough giving power to affect your reputation level.
You reputation power depends on several factors:
If you wish to add to the reputation of a user, find the post you like or dislike and click on the [Scales?] icon found in the top right corner of the post. This will open a pop-up where you can choose what kind of reputation you want to add and where you have the option of writing a message to the user. Since the system is meant to be a reward, you should only give out reputation points when it is truly earned. Furthermore, asking for reputation points is viewed upon with disapproval.
Advanced Member
An Advanced Member is a member of the forums who has been given more allowances then the usual member. Since these members have contributed in a positive way to the community, they are granted some privileges not enjoyed by the ordinary members. These include:
You cannot apply for membership of this user group. Only the Senior Administrators can decide who can become an Advanced Member. Members of this group can be recognised on their italic/bold names, like this: Username
Welcome Message
There's a hack available from Vb. As soon as a member signs up they get an automated welcome message. You may think it sounds cheesy, but what if you didn't know it was automated?
