Well today I was extremely bored and I felt like installing Sims 2 again just for the heck of it. Then I changed mine mind and started looking up info for the Sims 3. Lo and behold it was just announced the game is complete and is coming out June 2. I had no clue it was this close to being released. I thought it would be months or even a year before it was coming out.

Hopefully it's not as disappointing as Spore. Either way it's just one of those games I like to play every now and then casually. Looking forward to trying it out. How about you guys?

I'm actually excited about this game. It was supposed to be released in February, but got pushed back.

I guess its one of the most widely played games in the world...but just doesn't strike me as something I'd enjoy. Spore is about as casual as i'll get. give me SimCity 2000 and I'm good

Yes.

Yes.

THE SIMS 3.

Looking forward to this. I know its popular to poo poo the sims games (mainly because of all the expansions), but the one thing that it does fantastically well is AI. The whole wants and needs as well as short and long term motivations/goals is what brings the Sims to life, and makes the AI in other games (Oblivion, fallout 3, Mass effect spring to mind) look positively ass when it comes to creating a sense of worldly ambiance. Its a shame more developers don't follow take lessons from Maxis approach tbh.

Kadayi, I assume you are aware The Sims 3 isn't being developed by Maxis though ;)

Also, The Sims 3 is high on my hype-o-meter if only for the fact that EA hired the guy who made the AI for the original Black and White(One of the coolest AIs ever imo) to make the AI system for The Sims 3 :)

I haven't read anything about it, nor have I been following it, but I'm definitely going to be picking it up.

I will most likely be getting this, I haven't played a Sims game for a while, buts a great game to just go and mess about on when bored. Or the classic build a house, fill it with people, plenty of wooden furniture and many fireworks = highly amusing.

It's the same people dude, lets not split definitives here ;)

The only dampener is that it doesn't look like they are releasing a standalone version of the creator beforehand (like they did with Sims 2), which is a bit annoying as to make a good likeness takes some time.

Sim AI that can leaaaarn?!?

Sim AI that can leaaaarn?!?

Sims AI learns and remembers dude. They actually have ongoing memories of events and people good and bad and will act upon them if you let them, like say go and argue with someone they don't like, etc, etc. There really isn't anything else out there that compares in terms of making a socially cohesive AI. Sure in Oblivion/fallout the AI will wander around and talk to each other, and the player but they don't have any engagement with each other as individuals or a sense of memory unless it relates directly to a mission.

I guess I didn't notice it that much because I was always puppeteering my sims to the max.

Oh man, did I see something about B&W AI? I saw something about B&W AI. Maybe I can teach my Sims to fling poop at other sims...

Meaning, it's been given the okay for release.

I can't wait to waste countless hours of my days making houses and sims.

What does it mean, a game has gone gold?
Basically it means a Release Candidate has been cleared for retail, and the game is cleared to go into full-scale production, in preparation of finally being shipped out to stores.

What does it mean, a game has gone gold?

Before when a game was complete a ready for production the master disc was pressed onto a gold plated CD and was sent for reproduction. That's were the term gone gold came from. I can't wait for this and it's made a whole lot better for not having the intrusive SecuROM just the standard CD check.

The Sims 2 was awesome, the expansion packs were wastes of money, I never bought any of them. The game itself is good enough why have 200 expansions?

If you never bought any of them how can you firmly establish that they were indeed a waste of money?

Also surely if you didn't buy them, then no money was wasted no?

Personally I did buy them and overall I found they added quite a bit to the game (university was quality and the business one was pretty good as well.) . Still horses for courses I guess.

I've always wanted to enjoy The Sims... even though every time I've tried I haven't really.

But this time, I'm hoping I really can. I'm hoping Sims 3 changes everything and makes it more enjoyable for me!

Too bad I can't run it right now. Bah.

The Stuff packs were a waste of money as there were plently of fan made items that were free and better. The Expansion packs however were really good. I got them all cheap and they do add loads to the game.

Same here. I wasn't too psyched about the Sims in general, but the Sims 3 looks miles better than the previous games

Looks interesting, I've only tried Sims 1 and found it pretty boring. FSR I haven't tried 2 yet.

I was really hurt when they delayed it. But now I'm happy :) Can't wait!

I'm thinking about preordering it, the first 2 sims were really good imo. Countless hours wasted trying to create a massive family tree/legacy.

I've been spoiled by other games. Everything must be a war machine. In games where I build towns and cities, it is only so that I can build tanks. If my sims are not planning to become a crime family which kills people, then they are not worthy.

No **** this, this game cannot come out because if it does I will not leave my house for a month.

Looking forward to this :D Should be good fun and I'm really looking forward to exploring the whole neighbourhood!

Building a mafia type family does sound fun. I'll probably try that once the game comes out

i agree with everything said about the sim AI.. this makes me wish i had a computer that could play this

Is it even possible? All the sim games have been too family oriented in the area of crime. It's always been to comical and shit. I want some real drama, which I think would be awesome.

Well, The Sims 3 will support rape of minors, as well as incest! So it should suit all your real drama needs!

Two words:

Coherent

Neighbourhood.

Yeah man that has me excited.

I just think it's such a shame I won't be able to play it. I need to get a new videocard, dammit!

Pc and Wii? No ps360? Hmmm my current rig prolly won't run it.

Mmmmm SimCity 2000. Good game. I'll probably give this a shot.
