Personally I do not like the Sims, but Nintendo just continue to do the correct thing. It makes me think as to how much market share Sony will loose. Everyone knows globally Sony has around 70-75% of the console market.

With the Wii as it is on release and the fact 360 is doing 'ok' it looks to take that down slightly. But how big do you think Nintendo will go? Sony does very little to attract other audiences apart from the ones it has. How much attention will the Wii end up getting? This really makes me wonder if the Wii is tapping into a next generation market rather than next generation graphics.

With the DS sales alone it brings Sonys market share down to 50% if Nintendo do what they have done with the DS but much bigger, imagen where that will lead. To this day the DS Lite has been out for so long in Japan but its still sold out EVERYWHERE! its very hard to get your hand on one and IGN and Gamespot even pointed out the fact the DS lite had larger queues than the PS3 in some locations. I know this is only Japan, but its still amazing.

Yes I'm a huge fan of the Wii, I own a 360 and already have a pre order for a PS3 (Europe) but there is so much good about the Wii going around at the moment it really makes me think as to how well its sucess will be. I know its crazy to say realisticly. But could Nintendo become once again the worlds leader?

I disagree with the fact that 360 is doing 'ok'.
The 360 is fairly succesful.

Nintendo owns the Japanese market, and I know many people already buying Wii's.

Nitnendo could very well become the world's leader, but don't forget the success of the 360

the 360 is doing failry successful in North America but not everywhere else.
I mean in Japan, despite huge efforts, it went nowhere. If it could penetrate other markets I would say it would be much more successful but it hasn't.

The Ps3....well idk we'll find out.

The Xbox(1) also sold abbout 18 ~ 20 million. Ps2 sold...err wasn't it 150 million?

WII POWER!

In terms of actual console sales, saying the 360 is doing fair is more than generous. If I'm not mistaken I believe the PS2 has put up better sales numbers than the 360 since its' release.

As far as the Wii ... I don't really see it challenging Sony. It very well may be incredibly successful, but I don't think the two companies are targeting the same demographic. If the Wii is successful it will be along the same lines as the Ipod or DS, where people who normally would not have cared too much about a games console will be enticed into buying one.

Really I think the two competitors in this generation are the PS3 and 360, with the Wii only minorly overlapping the target demo of the two.

These are the latest numbers from Japan, with this kind loyalty that the japanese people have to Sony and Nintendo, I don't see SONY out of business any time soon, plus I don't think they would do bad in North America and Europe either, XBOX 360 is dead in japan and beyond salvation, all that if left for microsoft is to fight for the northamerican and european market to death...

One thing you fail to see is how big the market you looked down on is. If I'm right 2/3 of the world are female and the Sims is one of the biggest selling games of all time. This alone shows how big the market is that most people don't even notice. The Wii is 'noticing' the change and going for it. Sony on the other hand will keep there current audience with the loss of some and expand. I believe that Sonys market will only get slower and slower. I don't see any major increase. On the other hand I see the Wii going up and up and up on the things you don't even know about.

I see the DS light is pwning everything there.

I think the Wii is targeting the entire target of the 360 and Ps3 but also the non-casual gamers. I think it's also doing incredibly well at it to.

so is the sims coming to wii?
that will be very good for nintendo

I didn't fail to see that at all, as a matter of fact I pointed it out. The thing is that people who generally don't play games like women, parents, etc. wouldn't have gotten a PS3 anyway. So while the Wii may grab these people and be hugely successful because of them, it's not really hurting the PS3 because of it. What I'm trying to say is that even if the Wii gets big, which it may, it won't really be eating into Sony's market share.

One thing that you're right about is that Sony has probably peaked in terms of console dominance. While they will almost certainly dominate this coming generation and maybe even the one after, I find it hard to believe that the PS3 or subsequent consoles will achieve the same penetration rate as the PS2.

I still find it amazing the DS/DS Lite manages to sell 100,000+ units every week in Japan, with most shops being sold out often... I mean, everyone in Japan must have 3 DS's by now :p

The Wii, I think it'll be successful... but I doubt it'll be the console leader. I think the PS3 and maybe the 360 will lead again once all the new games with even better graphics come out.

The Wii's controller may get boring after a while for people. But if it goes the way the DS did... then it'll be awesome.

OMG I GET IT NOW!!

Girls want to play with Wii's!!! Hmm, I think i'll invite them over to play with my Wii!!!!

Anyway I think Nintendo is trying to target everyone. People who arn't in gaming, your casual gamer, your hardcore gamer even, and casual\hardcore gamers who are bored with whats currently out there(me).

I did. I'm not sure whether you're comparing the Sims to the Wii, or if the Sims is coming to the Wii, or...

You're all wrong.

The Wii targets people who like to have fun (100%).

I understand what you mean, but I was talking into a broader perpective of things. If they make the same amount of money on the PS2 as they did the PS3 but the Wii makes more than PS2 sales. It will still hurt sony. The games industry is obviously expanding but you need to expand with it. If the 360 and Wii catch up with PS3 then all the exclusives to Playstation will start to go. You will notice already Sony has lost Assassins Creed and Grand Theft Auto. There are rumours going around that they will be loosing Metal Gear Solid also. These big titles are used to Sony having a 70% market share. If they notice that Sony only has a 40-50% Market share I don't think many of there exclusives will stay exclusives for long. On the other hand Microsoft has the money power to keep its exclusives (Gears of War and Halo). Then ontop of this all the Wii will have the most exclusive games.

To sum it up in the long run I would expect PS3 and 360 to have nearly the same games. It will get a hell of a lot worse than it currently is for 3rd party titles. The Wii on the other hand, every single title that goes on there consoles goes through Nintendo, they box it and do everything. Nintendo has always had a lot of console over the games that go on its system. Do you get my point yet?

You're all wrong.

This is so true!

I did. I'm not sure whether you're comparing the Sims to the Wii, or if the Sims is coming to the Wii, or...

No, if you read you should notice that I talk about how games like The Sims on the Wii will bring in a much wider audience and may be lead to Nintendo having the dominate console.

So many people want SONY to fail, I understand it, but think about it, do you really think that the Wii will surpass Sony’s new toy in terms of units sold? (fan base), even Nintendo have been very clear that they are not even competing this time around, casual gamers, non-gaming parents and chicks, this what Nintendo is trying to get, actually is a very smart move from Nintendo, but I don’t think it will be enough to beat the giant.
Let’s just say for a moment that MGS4 is going to be port to XBOX 360, which a highly doubt it, this will at least take a year after the Playstation 3 version of the game is out, Kojima is committed right now to finish MGS4 on Playstation 3 before even think it to port it to XBOX 360, they are building it from cero on PS3’s developments kits, and with PS3 hardware in mind first. Remember the port of MGS2 to XBOX? Same thing, it came way after the PS2 version and it even when the Xbox’s hardware was superior to the PS2’s; the Xbox version had crappy textures and frames problems, and the most important thing, I didn’t affect the sales of MGS2 for PS2, people don’t want to wait one more year for a port of a game that wasn’t designed for that console in mind, people will buy PS3s and a lot of them for MGS4.
The really killer exclusive franchise from the Playstation that the Xbox (or Nintendo) would benefit from, is Final Fantasy, wherever this franchise goes is usually the winning console (in terms of sales), Nintendo had it, then in N64 days they lost it to Playstation, and we all know what happen, the rest is history…

Here's a great article:
http://thewiikly.zogdog.com/article.php?edition=10&article=89

Generation One:

PONG > the technologically superior PONG clones

Generation Two:

Atari 2600 > the technologically superior Intellivision and Colecovision

Generation Three:

NES had all the games so Master System was out of luck.

NES > the technologically superior Sega Master System

Gameboy > Atari Lynx

Generation Four:

While some might say that the SNES is the exception since it was technically superior to the Genesis, this is not true for the speed or the Sega CD and 32X that came out for it. Clearly, Sega was gunning for technical superiority which is why it lost in the end.

Look at how black and white Gameboy outsold a color handheld again. And people think HD graphics are going to matter.

SNES > Genesis

Gameboy > Gamegear

Generation Five:

The Saturn and Nintendo 64 were created to be technologically supreme consoles especially over the Playstation. Still, Playstation won.

Playstation 1 > Saturn, N64

Gameboy Color > Neo Geo Pocket

Generation Six:

Xbox and Gamecube were far superior consoles to the Playstation 2 yet the PS2 won.

Playstation 2 > Gamecube, Xbox

Gameboy Advance > Whatever

The iPod was not the first mp3 player nor the most technologically advanced. The iPod succeeded not because it focused on technology like its competitors but because it focused on the user-experience.

They forgot the PSP against the DS. I'm backing the Wii all the way, I don't think people think change can happen so drasticlly. But with the current situation Nintendo are doing everything right and Sony are doing everything wrong. Sony could bring it back. But will they... They tried with the PSP but it didn't work.

DS and PSP is a prime example of Wii vs PS3

Is nobody going to call him on saying that the world is 66.6 percent female?? I mean sure we all wish right, but unfortunately it is 50/50. Or maybe 51/49 because guys die earlier.

idk Dan.... how many armies had women fighting? Not that many. Many Men die simply because of wars. I mean hell Vietnam? Korean Wars? I don't think to many women died in them....however Men? You bet your ass. Even today in Iraq there still arn't that many women soliders.

yeah.. and how many people are there in the world now? 6 billion. How many of them are soldiers? less than 50 million. And how many of those soldiers are going to die, probably less than 5 million. So that 5 million military deaths makes up all of 0.08 percent of the world population. Think about it for a second. If the world were 2/3 women there would be two women for every man. Hmmm.. where are all those extra women hiding?

The XY sex-determination system is a well-known sex-determination system. It is found in humans, most other mammals, some insects (Drosophila) and some plants (Ginkgo). In the XY sex-determination system, females have two of the same kind of sex chromosome (XX), and are called the homogametic sex. Males have two distinct sex chromosomes (XY), and are called the heterogametic sex.

The XY sex determination system was first described independently by Nettie Stevens and Edmund Beecher Wilson in 1905.

I predicted it, Sony will crush Microsoft(In the 360 and PS3 Showdown), yes sorry for the off topic here

umm I know how chromosomes work, and that neither supports or refutes anything anybody has said. You might as well have said "I like cheese".

Fact remains that there is not a 2:1 ratio of guys to girls in the world. Women don't make up anywhere close to 2/3 of the population.

In my bed!
Also your stats a bit off. It isn't two women per man. It is 2 men per 3 women.
Big difference.
Two women per man = 12 women means 6 men.

3 women per 2 men = 12 women means 8 men.

sorry for the double post :(.
Don't shoot me!!!!!!
*runs away crying*

According to Ichi, "2/3 of the world are female". If this were the case, then for an average group of 3 individuals, 2 are women. 2 out of 3 or 2/3. The remaining 1/3 is male. So you have 2 women and one guy, a 2 to 1 ratio. A holy trinity if you get the reference.

Who cares? :D

Anyone got anything else on the Sims for the Wii?
