First unlockable for Sniper has been revealed ? it's The Huntsman. It's a long bow that will allow us to pin other players to walls.
The Sniper Update will not be different than other class updates, it will contain a new map, new achievements and more maps for us to play. All that good stuff is free of charge as usual.

Any experienced sniper will tell you how irritating it is when your targets keep moving around. The question is how to stop these cheaters from wind-sprinting around like they own the place. And the answer is to pin them to a wall. How? With arrows![br]
And even if you don't kill them, they'll carry around a certain arrow-shaped something as a living testament to your awesome archery skills and their frankly unawesome dodging skills. Comes with 18 arrows and a one-second charge for full power shots.

You can visit The Sniper update page here.[br]UPDATE: From the TF2 blog regarding the Huntsman. Robin Walker simply says "No, the Huntsman doesn't stun. It pins dead/dying players."

Oh snap. I was expecting more of a warning. I didn't know they were going to reveal these this week.

Huntsman sounds great.

So is this just another sniper weapon with the HL2 crossbow lolness of sticking ragdolls to things or is it another Sandman-esque debuff?.

I'm intrigued and excited, but I need to see how this actually works in-game.

What are the downsides to using it? It wasn't really explained in the description.

I hate unlocks that make the original weapons obsolete. Kind of like the bonesaw being obsolete because of the ubersaw. Or the original needle gun not being used by anyone anymore.

It probably does very low damage.

I think the down side is that's it's not an instant kill like the sniper rifle. Since it does mention the people you shot will still have the arrows in them after they unpin themselves from the wall.

It won't make the sniper rifle obsolete. The Huntsman will probably not have the zoom scope of the rifle.

I'm assuming if they are standing by a wall and you pin them to it, they are still alive but incapable of moving. Ideal for other snipers and camping engineers / heavies. They are then easy prey, or if you kill them outright with several shots / headshot its just funny!

The new weapon looks like it'll be funny, I just hope it's also fun.

This looks like it will be a shit ton of fun to play with! YAY!

Looks like fun, but in terms of the model. I think they should have gone with a wicked looking compound bow instead. A proper compound bow can beat any regular bow in terms of sheer kinetics.

My first reaction to this: "AWESOME."

Don't see why a lot of people are giving lukewarm responses.

Maybe it's the way Valve's been treating the game lately, what with the mmo stuff and the latest unlock, the Sandman. Who knows. These things be mysterious.

I like this idea. Not least because it sounds like a good weapon. Presumably the damage is lower than the sniper. Should be cool to see how people use this thing close up.

My backburner hungrily awaits a sea of snipers.

EDIT: Commas are for the weak.

It sounds interesting and creative, and yet, so obvious now that I think about it. How did nobody guess a bow and arrow?! But still--it's the pinning that seems to be faulty.

Sounds like a lot of fun, hopefully there is not stun effect. This could actually make me want to play sniper sometimes.

Nice.

For some reason, I would of rather seen a more modern looking bow then the one displayed in the picture. Looking at the description, it seems as if the victim would only get pinned if they have low hp.

I didn't see anywhere that it said it was a replacement for the sniper rifle.
edit: though the crit-headshot does seem to imply that.

This.

A previous blogpost stated that the sniper rifle alternative would give benefits for being closer, this really doesn't have one.

Your mom's cheesecake.

By cheesecake, I mean vagina.

It's a neat idea, but what's the benefit of using this? I'm assuming it is harder to aim (arrows arch) and does less damage. Hopefully they'll elaborate more on this soon.
