Because Riomhaire and I were discussing the bullshit that was Transformers season 3+, and so prevent hijack of a good thread, behold: the Transformers thread. Feel free to talk about the cartoons or the movies.

So, going back to Unicron and Primacron, that was crap. The comics set him and Primus up as gods, which is an infinitely cooler origin. He wasn't a transformer in the beginning; he was a god who found perfection in nothingness and thus tried to destroy the universe (and even succeeded once), but then Primus trapped him in the form of a planet. Over countless eons he learned how to manipulate his form and became the first transformer.

What're your favourite transformers? Mine:
Omega Supreme
Starscream
Megatron (for always beating the crap out of Starscream)
Galvatron (for being completly insane)
Wreck-Gar

BTW, does Alpha Trion ever actually transform in the entire show?

My favorite Transformer's Blitzwing. He's not a major Decepticon, or even a very fleshed-out character in the show, but when I first saw him my jaw hit the floor. "Oh, cool, he's a purple jet that transforms into a robot and OH MY GOD HE TRANSFORMS INTO A TANK ALSO!"

Followed by mighty Megatron.

And then probably Slag, the triceratops.

As for Alpha Trion I don't recall him ever transforming. He's supposed to be a spaceship, going by the toy, but I don't think he's ever transformed on the show.

Ravage!

"The stealthy, shadowy Ravage operates best alone. A creature of the night, Ravage performs most of his actions in the darkness, both literally and figuratively — there are times when he will cloak himself in such shadow and subterfuge that not even his fellow Decepticons know where he is or what he's doing ... but since whatever he's up to is sure to be bad news for the Autobots, they don't really mind. Ravage is aloof, but his craftiness and deadliness mean that his actions command respect from his comrades."

AM I the only one who thought Transformers the Movie was a little crazy?. I know you all are fans, which is why I just said a little. I mean for Gods sake, eBay was a major plot point in the story. Are they serious?

I watched the CG animal transformers series occasionally when I was younger. It was entertaining.

I'm surprised some of you know what cassettes are ..they're like ancient ..even to me

oh and what's a transformers thread without little ole me to get Darksides juices flowing

"transformers, more than meets the eye ..GO GO GOBOTS!!! pew pew pew"

My family has cassettes ranging from Fleetwood Mac to Nirvana. I guess they didn't want to buy a CD player for the car :/

That's what I listened to when I was little (which was unimpressively not that long ago), tapes of the Muppets, Fred Penner, Raffi, etc.

I have however come across people who have no clue what they are.

Where else are you going to sell your crap? You ever tried hawking stuff at the flea market? That doesn't fly. You gotta be out there at six in the morning and set up your booth, standing out in the hot sun or the chill of winter, and you get a few looks and some haggles, but if you're at the flea market you're not trying to make a buck, you're just trying to rid yourself of crap laying around your house. These were glasses by one of the original arctic explorers...that's not crap, that's some good stuff! Might've fetched a pretty penny off eBay if, y'know, giant robots weren't trying to murder you for it.

Also Stern cassettes aren't ancient...memorex, man, memorex!

Also damn you, damn you and your gobots

They're serious, and unfortunately it's Follywood these days.

The CGI was great though. Too bad the cameramen were having epileptic seizures while tripping on marbles simultaneously trying to capture the action.

Megan Fox and that Chili LeDouche guy were really just poorly crafted plot devices to (attempt to) provide comic relief and continuity. And you've gotta admit that Megan was super horny for the yellow car, not for Chili. Watch the ending.

I remember watching the (I believe) American cartoons, but the memories are tainted with faint recollections of Gundam Wing and Resident Evil.

*avoids Darkside's laserbeam eyes as run out of thread*

If your memories of Transformers are crossing over with Gundam Wing, you're probably thinking of Car Robots aka Transformers: Robots in Disguise, the first in a line of fail Japanese series. They were running at around the same time, although on different networks.

And yes, Megan was the typical love interest for the main character, because every story has to have that. As for Shia, I have to disagree with you there because he played a very good Spike Witwicky.

I mean Sam. Sam Witwicky.

I only ever saw Transformers: Robots in Disguise. Then I started watching Beast Wars.

That's all I used to watch way back when. Beast Wars and reboot.

To be fair, I watched the film in Spanish. For me, dubbing movies is like putting on a barrier for denigrating otherwise decent movies.

Also, Shia was wearing a The Strokes shirt at some point in the movie. :afro:

Beast Wars was great. It got kind of confusing when they all
became different beasts in some form of empty purple city

Beast Wars was a great series for all the characterization and the actual story arcs. It really tried to make something cohesive out of the show rather than just "stop Megatron's evil plot of the week." While the original show could be very poignant at times, and had some fair character exposition, that's pretty much what it boiled down to. A lot of times things that happened previously had no impact on future episodes; it was different in Beast Wars. Lots of episodes had real ramifications.

Also Milk, that was Beast Machines, when they went back to Cybertron. It...kind of dropped the ball, just a little. Still good but it was a little "eh."

Robots in Disguise is crap. I'm going to tell you, the Japanese did terrible things. Terrible things...they make good toys, that's the truth; Takara's a better toy company than Hasbro. But Japan should be barred from coming anywhere near the cartoon ever again, because with most of their series it's crap, all crap. It's like if you watch the original series, or even Beast Wars, you see the characters shooting at each other either without saying anything or while making comments about the situation. In the 1986 movie, Prime friggin' steamrolls a group of Decepticons, does a flip over their heads and just starts BLASTING, without a word. When I first tuned into RiD, there was Optimus Prime, but he couldn't fire a single shot without being like, "DOUBLE BARREL LASER BLAST!" I know Japan has a fascination for giving attacks long-winded names and having characters scream them out before attacking as though it were a requirement, like your gun's not going to shoot unless you cry, "BACKMOUNTED SHOULDER MISSILE DESTRUCTIVE EXPLOSION BARRAGE!" but come on. Retarded. Also there was some kinda skunk Decepticon and a flying shark. What the hell, Japan.

Robots in Disguise and Armada did have two redeeming qualities though: Black Convoy in the former (an evil Optimus Prime), and Starscream in the latter, who is the most badass version of Starscream. Which should be an oxymoron, but in the Armada universe he was a cool guy. Japan's final series, Cybertron, is made of pure hate. It's like the creators secretly hated Transformers and all its fans and decided to shit all over them out of spite. Of course some people like it but those are the kinds of people who eat up anything out of Japan, so their opinions are invalid. Not even small children enjoy Cybertron.

But you guys should check out Transformers Animated, which just started a few weeks ago. I think they're up to episode 9, so it's still early to catch up. First TF show back in the hands of the West since Beast Wars, and it really shows. It's amazingly good. Even if I wasn't already a Transformers fan I'd like the show. It's very much a cross between G1 and Beast Wars in spirit.

There is but one Transformers show I care about, and that is Beast Wars.

Not that I've seen Transformers Animated though.

Beast Wars is the best Transformers show out there.

But it only had my favourite Transformer as a cameo, alas.

I speak of mother-****ing Optimus Prime.

I just looked up Transformers: Aninamted on Wikipedia.
"Optimus Prime: The rookie de-facto leader of the Autobots on Earth, transforms into a futuristic fire truck, and wields an axe"
Unless that's some form of badass energy-axe that's just ****ed up. And why the hell does it look like Teen Titans?

I watched the first episode of that show. It's not too bad.

And it is a badass energy axe. And the firetruck aesthetic works.

It's a re-envisioning, Riom. In Animated, the Great War between Autobots and Decepticons ended thousands of years ago. Technically there aren't any more Decepticons...they're all supposed to have been destroyed.

Optimus Prime isn't the Optimus Prime from G1; that Prime might not have ever existed. THIS Optimus Prime works as a construction bot, building space bridges (warp gates). He had previously trained to become a member of the Cybertron Elite Guard, but for unexplained reasons never made it. So the only Autobots he leads are members of his space bridge crew: Bulkhead, Bumblebee, Prowl, and Ratchet.

And then they stumble onto the Allspark/Matrix (it looks like the two of them fused together; a square-ish Matrix) and the last remaining Decepticons appear. A battle ensues, they go through a space bridge and crash on Earth, wake up 50 years later. There are some plot points inbetween that 50 years that've been borrowed from the 2007 movie, but I won't spoil them for you.

Also, the current leader of the Autobots (all Autobots) is Ultra Magnus. And Sentinel Prime from the comics is in the show as well as a member of the Guard.

Oh and it was designed by the people who did Teen Titans, hence why it looks the same. The artstyle grows on you.

Don't knock fire axes. Or Pyro's gonna getcha.

Prime had an energy axe in G1 too. Came out of his hand. This one's a little cooler: the blade's metal but can be sharpened with energy, the hilt can extend, and there's a rocket on the back of the blade for that extra "oomph."

Is it anything like that energy sword from the movie? I'm dissappointed he only used that once

It isn't attached to him like the sword. I think it comes out of his back, where his gun in G1 used to be. I guess it's something like the energy sword in that the blade is metal and has an energy coating.

No, it's not made by the people who made Teen Titans. It's made by the dudes who made Ben 10.

Supervising director: Matt Youngberg (Teen Titans)
Character designer: Derrick Wyatt (Teen Titans)
Executive producer: Sam Register (Teen Titans, Ben 10)
Head writer: Marty Isenberg (Danny Phantom, X-Men, TMNT)

Transformers blows utter chunks. I'd have it erased from the history books if I could.

Ha, I almost raged at you! I almost did it, I was sitting here and I was thinking to myself, "Fucking Samon thinks he's hot shit because he can troll and get away with it because of his position as staff bootlicker," but ha, I caught myself! I caught myself. 0/10 to you; would not be trolled by again.

Everyone else is still enjoying this thread.

Also Pesh:

dont take it so personally that some people think the Transformers sucks donkey balls ..it's just an opinion ..not everyone likes Conan, you dont see me threatening them with hacking their head off and sticking it on a pole ..no matter how much I'd like to

"GOBOTS TRANSFORM INTO SHAPE OF ICE BUCKET"

It's the point that people are actually enjoying this thread--a lot more people than I would have originally thought on this forum. I thought maybe it'd be like me and Riom talking about it, but then other people brought up Beast Wars and Narvi started watching the new series, and page 2 ended on OPTIMUS PRIME

but the fact is that Samon knows how much I enjoy Transformers to the point where he's stated his opinion several times. And everybody's posting good things in the thread and then "hurr hurr transformers sucks." Samon trollin' mah thread!

I was kidding Darkside ;)
Zero.

Out of ten.

I'd post a picture of a Transformer flipping you off, but just like Ultra Magnus, "I CAN'T DEAL WITH THAT RIGHT NOW!"

ya but he's enjoying this thread too ...and so am I ..I think we get a kick out of getting a rise out of you ..so long as you dont get too angry ..it's the reason i keep throwing in Go go Gobots etc ..I find it funny cuz you guys are so serious about a tv show based on a toy

I only remember Transformers vaguely from childhood, but the memories are nice. I might look into watching it again. Any good sources to get the whole thing at once?
