I have a question.. and I haven't seen anyone bring it up before so I felt it was my duty as a HL player and HL2 waiter.... or something. Why is there no HL2 on valve's website www.valvesoftware.com ... they have CS and TF and HL1 and HL1 gold edition.... Steam, DoD, but no HL2.. hell even TF2.... sooooooo maybe it's all just a biiiiig conspiracy theory to get everyone to d/l steam and await the coming of HL2 when all Gabe Newell is is an alien from xen... waiting to abduct us and "probe" us from his Steam information.. wahahahaha

ok so i'm tired... but the first part of the post is serious... why isn't it on the website...

laters

My guess is when they release pre-order information for hl2 over steam, the official hl2 site will be upped and available to browse...

it's no conspiracy. it's an old question, and who on earth knows why theres no mention of HL2 on their site. (actually, there is... go to the "people" section, and do a search for HL2. you'll find it mentioned)

Quote from the valve info thread, plz use the search option next time sir!

When will http://www.valvesoftware.com/ be touched...
The site says:

I mean hey it's 2003 :p

A: We're more interested in letting fan sites publish information than making everybody go to our sites.

Not directly that much info... but hey, i got the mail like in 2 hours

Actually, I can't find it on the People page.

"Yahn worked on Half-Life's multiplayer code and is currently hard at work on Team Fortress 2."
"John manages online platform development for Team Fortress 2 and other projects. "
"where he is currently hard at work on Team Fortress 2"
"As part of the HL2 team, Eric is responsible for the game's visual density..."
"Kristen is the latest cog in the "hushhush" Team Fortress 2 machine"
"...and is now pouring himself into Team Fortress 2. "
...

Good enough?

Actually there is a url for HL2 they just have security on it right now so you can't view it I guess until they are ready.

The url is:

http://www.valvesoftware.com/hl2

Interesting.

I remember before Half Life came out, I visited the site and it had little to no information.

When I went back after HL2 was announced, it seemed like exactly the same.

I guess once they release, they might update the project section with a couple sentences and a icon.

If you're poking about for hidden sections, http://www.valvesoftware.com/tf2 gets you a forbidden directory listing, that is, there's a directory there, but the server won't list the files in it.

But I guessed at http://www.valvesoftware.com/tf/screenshots , and that's a directory too. Now we just need everyone to try and guess file names for what the screenshots might be called, like 001.jpg , or sshot1.jpg . We might find unreleased media of TF2 !

Or try this: a.jpg aa.jpg aaa.jpg ....... ab.jpg aab.jpg... aaaaaaaaac.jpg etc. that way u will get every .jpg file wich is there, ofcourse it might be .bmp or gig maybe? Have fun I say...

http://uptime.netcraft.com/up/graph/?host=www.valvesoftware.com

They run Windows 2000 (surprise), and have been rebooting their server every 10 days or so as of late.

Interestingly, in Nov last year they seem to have moved from one web host to another, who they ditched only in March this year, and are now hosting on site. This despite any major change in the site.

So why did they ditch their hosts this year and are going inhouse? Are they planning something with the site?

Syphoon, they moved their offices. When they started in 1996 they just rented office space. But I believe the HQ that spitcodfry visted last week was a new one they had built or bought. As far as I know, they definitely moved offices.

cmon, lets get some hax0rs to hack the valve hl 2 site so we can see some previews!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Of course. The move.

But I am writing a python script to try different file names and see if it can find anything in the screenshots directory.

OK. i have an idea on how to do it. we can email gabe and include an attachment which will be a trojan virus, and tell him its a game. then we will get into netbus and HAX0R HIM!

Well, you probably shouldn't. And isn't it illegal?

Or we could wait until the next major Windows vulnerability is found (shouldn't be more than a few days wait) and then quickly exploit their Windows 2000 server before they patch!

oh and then ill have to ask him what his IP is. THEN we can HAX0R HIM.
