The Walking Dead TV Series (AMC)

Theres probably some access ladder or something he climbed down.

My initial impressions was that this episode was a marked improvement over the first two, but theres still a lot in it I don't like. For one, its stupid that the guy cut off his hand with the hacksaw, rather than the handcuff chain or the pipe. No ****ing sense to that whatsoever, even if he was delirious from dehydration. It was also stupid how that old dude and other dude bartered for letting the guy borrow a ****ing bolt cutter. That absolutely not realistic. Nobody would just not lend bolt cutters to save someone's life, let alone make such ridiculous demands for it. I mean, he demanded they get his tool bag back, that he get first pick out of all the guns, and be able to strip the guy's vehicle, all just to borrow a ****ing pair of bolt cutters. If someone actually did that, they'd get a swift punch to the nose.

I also hate that the cast is like 50% rednecks. Probably why the only characters I like are Glenn and the father and son from the first episode.

As for the pacing, I actually prefer it. It doesn't feel cramped or rushed to me. I much prefer it to the crawling pace of the first two.
Agreed on every point except the last one - I prefer the pace of the latest episode to that of the first two.

why isnt there much blood if he cut off his own hand? there were plenty of zombies trying to get merle before, but when the group came to rescue him, none were to be found (except the one in the store). And why cut off his own hand? Why not cut the small metal pipe instead? I haven't read the comics, so maybe this will be explained in time, but it just seems weird to me
I'm guessing he made a tourniquet out of his belt.

Although they often do in film, you cannot cut through handcuffs with a hacksaw blade in the same way you can't cut through prison bars with a hacksaw [not modern ones]. EDIT - I'm not totally sure. He could possibly cut through the cuff part if he could find a good corner so it doesn't slide. But I'm pretty sure he'd need a special blade. The metal is much stronger than the blade; simple as that. Especially concerning the chain, he wouldn't be able to. The blade would be destroyed very quickly and would never bite, but just slide.

I've seen a TV special regarding the design and strength of prison bars though, and they are REALLY REALLY ****ing durable, and they are designed so that the blade will want to slide, and so I'm just assuming they use similar techniques regarding cuffs, again, I'm not sure. I think we need Mythbusters on the case.

But honestly, the rusty pipe that he was cuffed to should have cut through easily and quickly. But I guess this was all an important part of the script, and the set was an afterthought. (Let's find a rooftop where we can film this)
Well, I guess I'm the minority here, I liked the second episode the best (because there was lots of shootan). I'm going to keep watching it, but it's really all kind of silly. Hopefully the rookie cast comes into their own. Some of the annoying ones will die, hopefully, lol.

Heh yeah I found the tool bartering a bit ridiculous. Thinking about the episode though, I think the whole 'wife beater' wasn't as much a storyline in itself but just more of an edition to the 'other' cop's story. I think that scene was more about him venting his rage than a whole separate story.

If that makes sense.

Yeah, that was what I got too. It was pretty obvious, I think. The more he hit the guy, the better he felt about his situation where he has been ****ing his best friend's wife.

I don't understand why they ****ed up the perfectly good, brand new car. Product placement accomplished, I assume. They could get a team and go down the highway sucking gas out of cars, if that's all they need.

Definitely in the 'first season' stage of things so far, I can't find it but there is a comic that perfectly describes the average television show's trajectory of quality.

Liked the new episode a lot more than the 2nd... it put the show back up to the level I had judged it after seeing that excellent pilot.

I'm terribly sad the season is halfway over when it's only just begun... but next season is a full juicy 13 episodes!

AMC now officially has me watching them on Sunday night to the exclusion of ALL OTHER THINGS all year round now (in both TV seasons at least). In the spring I've got Breaking Bad which is probably my favorite show on TV and now in the fall I've got The Walking Dead. Killer.

Breaking Bad is fantastic, now I even stay up after the third re-airing of the new Walking Dead episode just to watch old episodes. I feel like it would be worth it for me to watch Mad Men from the beginning and even Rubicon. AMC has come a LONG ways from its history of movies from 30+ years ago. It's just amassing some of the best series that television has to offer since... I don't even know what. I can't recall any time I was as excited about watching a television series as I am with these AMC gems.

pretty good episode tonight
some of the characters are finally starting to grow on me

one thing I don't get though...

why would they go back to Guerillmo's hideout, ready to spill blood, and just walk in the front door? they were outnumbered at LEAST 3:1
was he hoping to intimidate/bluff them into giving Glenn up? those guys were pretty hard, surely he couldn't have been counting on it
just doesn't seem like something Rick would ever do, especially since he had recently been reunited with his family

I couldn't figure this out either.

Otherwise loved the latest episode!

Great episode, I agree on that point though.
Didn't expect that situation to end the way it did either.

Neither did I! I like a bit of unpredictability.

maybe they thought they wouldnt waste so much for so petty stuff, also rick is the good guy so I dont find nonsensical that he will try to save someone else

what I found weird was how they let the granma walk all around when the fight seemed so obvious

still I kind of liked that part,it felt kind of realistic due the fact that everyone would have acted so hostile in a zombie apocalipsy so seeing that they both recognized theyr mistakes was interesting

also dont know about you but the crazy guy that seem to predict the future looked kind of creepy when being so friendly to the kids, maybe is the hillbily looks that make him seem like a pedophile, also due to his sudden madness

also the ending was cool and caothic and proved my point that theyr campsite was just too crappy

and I wonder where they will go next

also its me or the sistr and ed practically didnt reacted when they where actakked by zombies?

Flaws aside, I think this was a good episode.

Told you so on the tourniquet, hacksaw, and bad actors getting eaten.

Was it just me or did you guys

cringe while the sister died because you thought you knew she was coming back as a zombie ?.

A much better episode, the first I'd call "good" so far. The showdown in the gangsta place made sense to me. They got close enough to ensure the leader would die in the fight. Pretty good chance he'd have a change of heart in those circumstances.

Still hate the whole "zombies outta nowhere!" thing the show does. It wasn't as bad as the Sewer Zombie but still, no way they wouldn't notice a shambling horde coming at them. I mean, everyone was sitting in a circle with a 360 degree field of view. The situation with the chick in the RV was dumb. The zombie walked into view, she was like "oh... what?" and then it bit her arm. Then she fell down, as women apparently are wont to do in shows/movies like this, and just stayed on the ground while the zombie mounted her from behind and took a big bite of neck.

Not nearly as bad as some of the earlier episodes' situations though, so it seems to be getting better.

I think you're expecting too much from average people, Krynn. I don't know if you've ever sat around a campfire but you can't see a damn thing outside the ring of light. There was also heavy vegetation to contend with. Their lack of sentries, though, that was inexcusable on Shane's part.

The girl understandably didn't do anything, probably froze up from fear and pain. Some people just can't handle it while others can. Same goes for Ed.

I loved the scene with all the old people, I really made a connection with Guillermo's motivation. I also thought that the sister did a pretty good job on the devastated sobbing, it felt fairly convincing.

Wow. This was a horrible episode, seriously bad from almost any standpoint, and the worst by far of the series. I could not treat any of it like it was legitimate cable television. This was Stargate: Atlantis bad. A full 45 minutes of lazy mid shots, stereotypical writing and bad acting.

I don't think the writing was awful, but the camera work left enormous amounts to be desired. I think most of the bad actors died, so it's all good.

Not really. They came from the other side of the road, which is completely free of vegetation, and lit up by the lanterns and shit on their cars.

Looking at the pic, it seems theres a hill that sorta gets in the way. Still, there were at least three people looking that direction, AND the lady just opened the door and got everyones attention by saying theres no toilet paper.

Thats some ol' bullshiit. If someone's biting you, nobody is going to fall to their knees and cry about it. Thats a completely irrational, and counter-instinctual reaction.

I would have been on edge at all times, man. Zombies everywhere? SHIIIIIITTT If I opened a door and there was a zombie there, I would jump out of my ****ing skin. That's the best way I can describe it. There is almost no way they would ever get me.

But these ****ing guys, they practically fed themselves to the zombies. Would you like me to cut that up for you? Here's some ketchup. Come on, that was some of the worst acting television has ever seen. If you re-watch it on youtube or something, you'll see what I mean.

But anyway, this is a story. I am not wrapped up in it like Breaking Bad or something, it's more like some campfire shenanigans. B-movie quality.

Actually I would say the whole series is THAT bad. Don't get me wrong it can be entertaining at times, but so far nothing original, bad acting, bad cammera work, cheesy gore. Sorry but the whole thing feels like "The Young and the Restless" with zombies thrown in for shits and gigles.
After I finished watching the pilot my fist reaction was: "That's it? This is what everybody was raving about?"
Maybe it will get better, maybe not...

Rule one of zombie film/TV - They can come out of nowhere at any time.

lol you guys are hilarious; you expect high art in your zombie shows.

I've been finding the show a bit meh after the pilot. Its enjoyable but it doesn't feel like a AMC show, more like something that belongs on ABC or NBC.

Was it just me or did you guys

cringe while the sister died because you thought you knew she was coming back as a zombie ?.

Well that's bound to happen in the next episode, right? I was trying to remember whether it's pretty much immediate or does it take some time.

I was really hoping and glad it didn't happen. Would've been too obvious.
If I recall, Morgan, the father in ep1 mentioned that it took 48hrs for it. Won't Andrea become infected by getting her sister's blood all over her? On a side note, that Merle has to be one outright mean son of a bitch to saw off his own hand, then go and cauterize it. Damn.

The only thing hilarious around here is how bad this show is.

28 Days Later is 100 times better than this. Hell, even the Dawn of the Dead remake is better than this...

Maybe I would overlook some of it's faults if I actually liked the characteres, or the progression of the story. However that's not the case.

They dont abide by the infection rules too strictly , technically merle's brother should be infecting everyone with his zombie blood tipped arrows. especially that guy he shot.

Loving this show, has another season been confirmed?

I think the whole "don't get zombie blood on you" is just a precaution as they don't want to risk getting anything zombie on them.
