They're idiots. It's a fantastic game - although the combat does suck and there is too much walking, but that's largely due to the load times.
It's not a major issue...it's a hardcore roleplaying game, better combat would be welcome but it would really be a luxury.
My biggest criticism, besides technical issues, would be that you don't really do much exploring - halfway through the game and so far it's all been set in one city, and I still haven't had the opportunity to visit the whole of that city. NWN2 had lots of different, interesting places to see.
That's just a personal choice, though.
 
I kinda liked the combat. Well, when I was using group style at least. It was so much fun running around getting a good bunch of drowners following me and then taking them all out in 2-3 swings.

Average professional review score is 81 (avr player score is 9.5/10). Not too shoddy especially given that the criminal 5/10 EDGE gave it really dragged down the average, consoletards that they are :dozey:
 
Eh, I dont mind the combat, its much better than turn based combat, and the attributes such as pain, bleeding, stun and more add a bit more depth to the timing system.
 
I didn't like the demo that much.

The graphics are OK but it seems generic-looking like Gothic 3. I didn't like the fighting that much. If they were going for a real-time style why not just let us have a Fable-style fighting system where I can attack whenever I want? You can't even move while attacking so you just have to sit there and click at the right time.

Do you mean that the graphics are not stylized? The game goes for a realistic look, and I have no complains against the art direction but I have not played the demo so I dont know if that is different or not.

You can move while attacking, doing so cancels the combo however. It does get more involved the later in the game you are when you have to constantly switch styles and even weapons as well as use spells and potions.
 
Can someone tell me were Zoltan is i helped him with the racists, but Mikel won't play dice with me till i talk to Zoltan the only problem is i can't find him.

Oh, one neat detail I noticed in the game is that the citizens have weather specific behavior and dialogue. The only problem is IT ALWAYS FREAKIN RAINS, yet people say stuff like "havent had rain like this in a while".

"YES YOU HAVE IT RAINED TWO FRIGGIN HOURS AGO!!!" :p
 
Oh, ok. I cant really remember, but I dont think you see him again until the second chapeter, where you can definately practice with him.

Forget the demo, it misses out on a bunch if stuff and really isn't that in depth. If you check out the metacritic link and read the player comments you'll see that hardly anyone who bought & played it has a bad word to say about the game, and most give it 9 or 10 scores, which isn't normally the case with most games.
 
I just finished the game and well..

Who was the assassin in the end? Judging from the facial expression geralt got it was someone he knew.

I would say one of the greatest games to be released last year, and long too. A rarity for modern games.

No one knows. Probably he is a witcher from another witcher school. I think it'll be explained on the next episode.
 
So I finished The Witcher yesterday and I have to say it's the best RPG you can get, better than Gothic/Oblivion.

The story really keeps you going, as well as in my opinion, the fourth act is a pleaseant change of pace. It's like the last deep breath before the big fight. Also the ending leaves some questions unanswered which leaves the door open for the sequel, which should arrive in about 1 1/2 years.

The only things that annoyed me were the long loading times (which got better with the second patch) and the lots of running around to get quests done. Also, I had occasional camera problems.

By the way, I only used Aard and Axii, the other spells were pretty useless

That is actually not an achievement. If it was better than Fallout, Arcanum, Baldur's Gate or Planescape Torment, THEN it'd be an achievement.

And in the realm of choice and consequence, yes, it is on par with Planescape and even better than the rest. Yes, even Fallout.

Your a DOUCHE BAG for not liking Oblivion's leveling system! Just testing to see if your flame shield works and provides adequate protection.:LOL:
 
Once I got over the initial hype of playing Oblivion, say a few hours in, I realised it was a very average game. Hardly any pieces of armour and weapons compared to other games, and having us trod around EVERY city to close EVERY Oblivion gate, WTF were they thinking!?
 
I'd actually put The Witcher above KoToR tbh, the choices that occur in the game do have significance, right from the start, and although you end up at the same place at the end, as the player it's possible to see how things have had an impact. Also the fact that there weren't any black & white, good or bad decisions, just choices a world made up of conflicts. better than KoToR & what Fable should have been.

I know, this is the first game were i actually had to think hard about my decisions. Unlike other games were you can just save and reload to see the consequence,this one the consequences of your actions don't become apparent till a couple of acts later. I also like how there are no clear good or bad decisions, were picking the decison you might think as good, could make the situation alot worse.

I am still not sure wheter killing "the bad guy" for the path I picked (not sure if he always is the bad guy) was such a good idea after all.

I ended up joining the Squirrels and had to fight the grandmaster of the Order of the Flaming Rose. His plans was to create a force of mutated knights using witcher mutagens, those where supposed to protect the people when they where miss-migrating south in order to save themselves from an ice age that he (and others) had foreseen. I still dont know why killing nonhumans where such a good idea however.
 
It is fun to see even some insignificant decisions changed the story a little bit.
Like it makes a difference if you choose to fight the frightener at the beginning, rather than go to lab with Triss.

That change about really impressed me tbh (I did a double take in game when that occurred). Why filthy EDGE gave it a 5/10 is a crime against innovative gaming :frown:
 
Minute Chapter II spoilers.

I love how that guy in the Vizima inn in Chapter II got killed with the very same arrows that I put into circulation during Chapter I. Nice.
 
Oh, I love this game, best RPG I've played in a long time.. well, the one I've liked the most since Mass Effect and some others are fairly awesome but The Witcher just has some appeal to me.

Reminds me of the old days of good PC RPGs.

I'm in Chapter 2 at the moment, probably about half way through. I have such a tough time with some story decisions and deciding what to spend my Talent points on. :( A question, how do you guys [quickly] heal yourselves? Since there is no sit like in NWN and fireplaces/people aren't always around and eating food to increase vitality recovery seems useless, do you rely on a certain potion?

Is there any word at all on an expansion, sequel or anything?

I'll still at a fireplace for health regeneration. Food is useful during the first few chapters. Occasionally I'll drink swallow to increase my health regeneration rate. Since swallow is expensive potion, I won't be drinking it unless a big fight is ahead or I am about to tackle some quests.
 
Didnt bother with food, cause the ingredients for Swallow were so easy to find.
 
Thanks, I'm thinking I'm going to make a heap of Swallow potions and use those mostly than when I get White Raffard's, I'll use that too.
 
this game interests me, i wish it would get a 360 release as my PC sucks, how would you say it would run on a x800xt, gig DDR2 ram, 3.2ghz P4? Yeah crap now i know but what would you think? I heard the game is quite buggy and performance is eratic.

Hows the demo to judge?
 
In my experience, there are possible 1-2 errors if the game was being played for a long period of time, like 5-6 hours. Sometimes I meet none throughout the day. The game is not buggy. It does consume a lot of processing power. Demo is suitable to judge whether your computer can handle the game, but I advise you not to judge the game after playing the demo. The full game is A LOT better than the demo.
