Ok before I put in my new cpu and heatsink, I was wondering if I should use the stock thermal pad it came with or remove that and apply thermal paste?

In one of the AMD videos it says to use a thermal pad for long time use and that thermal paste for short time. Plus I have read that a lot of people recommend the paste because it performs better.

So which one should I use?

You shouldn't have any problems with the pad if you run the cpu at stock speed.

Ok I got the cpu installed. It says that the Athlon XP 2400+ runs at 2.ghz but it's only running at 1.5ghz for me. Does the 2ghz mean the max for overclocking or what?

I believe you have to set the multiplier in the bios to get to the 2.0GHz clock speed.

is that the FSB?

It did say that it was set to the lowest, but I wasn't sure which on to set it too.

Ok its at 2ghz now.

New question, to install my new video card I need to remove all nvidia files right? Even registry files?

Well i'm no expert at this stuff but i was witty enough to figure out mine. I have an AthlonXP 3000+ 400MHz FSB with an Asus A7N8X 2.0 motherboard and in the bios i just set the CPU Frequency Multiplier to 10.5 and my CPU external frequency was @ 200MHz. Multply that and i got my 2100MHz clock speed.

Is you're new card an ATI card? If so yes, you need to completely remove every trace of the old drivers. If it's another Nvidia card you can just go to add/remove programs and remove the driver there.

ok how do I remove everything?

Plus when I had it running at 2ghz my modem seemed to get wierd, it wouldn't dial and my connection program would freeze up and crash. I set it back to normal and now it works fine.

What should be my multiplier and fsb setting in BIOS for an Athlon XP 2400+ 266 FSB

So I need to take my CPU Frequency Multiplier and my CPU external frequency and multiply those together to get 2ghz?

That det destroyer program doesn't work for me. It doesn't recognize the video card.
