TheSomeone's Journey Thread

I don't know if I can keep critiquing you on and on forever but some things I've learnt are
1. Don't use biro, apparently.
2. when you start a drawing don't rush ahead start with dots to indicate
3. Draw lots of lines, in this way you will become a good artist

4. who is your favourite painter ?

Anatomy, drapery, and hands are my weak points right now. I picked up several books of amazon.com and plan to dive into them soon.

Though since I have been working out i've been developing a little more knowledge in human muscles.
Yeah drawing hands can be a total bitch sometimes. Sometimes i can't draw them to save me, sometimes i can draw them perfectly.

assumption 1. ..you're in unviersity? if so, the art courses should have life drawing

if you're not you could always visit the nearest university/college and see if they have open drawing classes

sometimes they offer sort drop in centers were you pay $5 to draw models for an hour ..the models usually run it to make some spare cash in between classes ...no instructors, so the school doesnt mind if people drop in

I'm 16, we've nothing like that in school. We're not taught how to draw in art lessons at all. They suck. But I'll see if the college here has any open drawing classes :)

And I like drawing with biros, I do it quite often :p

Yeah, we aren't taught art, we're just told to draw. It's not too bad though I guess, lets you get on with it instead of someone looking over your shoulder telling you what you're doing wrong constantly. :p

1. I find that to be wierd :-/.
2. Yeah, I alwalys do that on portraits for reference points.
3. :p

4. Touch decision: Michelangelo, Ingres, possibly Van Gogh.

okay well that's not really an art class ...more like a general art class so that people with absolutly no talent can still participate. College/university courses are completely different ..you cant get in without showing a portfolio ...and it better be good

If Michelangelo is your favourite artist maybe you should try to copy some of his stuff I copied work from all of those painters and I've got so many paintings along with women :p in my pictures file

Images more contrasted than they appear due to crappy scanner.

C & C super-encouraged as always.

From friendship to a kill or be killed realtionship, and Matt Hardy will not die!!

Alright TheSomeone if you're going to call me mentally handicapped then I'll say what I really think about your drawings things that I thought I shouldn't say because you'll eventually figure them out. That was 4 months ago!! you haven't improved a bit since then in fact you've probably gone backwards!!

The free flowing lines..well there are none.
The shading is highly average:O
The featues show a complete lack of understanding, I mean look at the lips!!:D :D
Is there depth....nope:naughty:
You have done some things well though like keeping the entire picture an exciting monotone.
If you really want to be an artist start listening to what people are saying instead of critiquing other works yourself because, you don't know what you're on about:D

The truth can hurt but denial can be an ugly thing!

Cheers we all had a good laugh at your expense:cheers:

You're not the someone you're the noone!
Now who rules???:D That my former friend is ownage!!!!

"This message is hidden because eatbugs is on your ignore list."

staircase drawing is a little too simple, i like mafia though

Stop it, you're making me cry *tears of joy and humility*.

:D

btw, you guys need to find a way to carry on ignored posts to quotes, because now I read eatbug's post and I'm even more hateful towards him, and hate is not a good thing ;(.

<3<3<3

well that's been subject to public debate but alrighty, sympathy can't hurt. I had hoped that things didn't have to go to that level of posting. Hey I tried to get you moving with your art and if that is the only way to get it done then so be it. Hey you punked me the first time I posted my stuff, take this as overdue payback.

Are you talking to me or TheSomeone? And in either case, what overdue payback? A tongue lashing?

I have nothing against anyone on this entire site except TheSomeone so you're right, and more what I like to think of as a wake up call than anything else

I changed my avatar as well, I think it works don't you?

Yes actually its a good avatar. Lets get back on topic now though, otherwise this thread will be closed

lol, you know that doesn't concern me,, and we were talking about how hatred is the lifeblood of this site, I mean look at all those bannings that were dished out!

Eatbugs.. when you can draw, you can critique others. I don't know how you've developed such a high opinion of yourself, because there is nothing special about your mediocre 'artwork'.

And eatbugs... when I read this, it really did sound as if you were describing yourself:

Anyway, let's stop this argument now. I won't close this thead because of eatbug's idiocy, lets get it back on topic

TheSomeone, I think you're on your way, as long as you keep drawing. I suggest not making drawings solely for the purpose of posting on HL2.net or any other art forum, otherwise it will be time-consuming and mostly dissappointing. Just draw and draw and if you want to show some of the better stuff off, post it. But I don't think these forums are really the best for critiques, nor any of the internet. Mostly because everyone is a lot more of a dirty asshole on the internet. I dunno if you already go there, but www.conceptart.org has some great forums, but you won't get much attention unless you have a ridiculously amazing piece.

And I'm sure you don't already, but listening to any of eatbug's posts would be pretty... stupid. I was going to say that a long time ago, but I didn't feel it would do anything besides start a flamewar. I'm glad that guy is finally banned, I hope its for good. If there is one sort of member that I hate on these forums, its an untalented arrogant moron who tries to bring others down because its the internet and no one can beat the shit out of him. ;)

Hey Erestheux, I actually only bother scanning and putting up less than half of my stuff, so the things I post are the ones I feel have more potential for constructive criticism. For example, I wouldn't post something that has obvious mistakes that I can see, rather something that looks wrong but I can't put my finger on it. :)

And yes, I do have a concept art sketchbook which I update about every 2 days and I've gotten some great criticism, they're extremely friendly over there.

Lookie at my sig :stare:

Sorry, I'm just too lazy to read or... look at things. ;) It's good to hear though. :)

This is completely untrue and I disagree wholeheartedly. Are you saying a person who can't draw doesn't know how to point out things that don't look right? Or make suggestions?

However, I am not defending Eatbugs either. He was really a jerk about it.

Crushenator your post made my choke on my soda

I agree with you vegeta, but eatbugs told me the exact same thing. All i've been trying to do by critiquing is helping others, and I've ALWAYS been open to criticism, unlike some. :(

though it is true that an un trained eye wont be as efficient as the eye of a master ...i think its safe to say that as humans we are capable of discerning significant deformation in shape and form.

To be able to criticize you have to be able to take criticism yourself. eatbugs could not do this.

is that david hasselhoff?
anyways the hair on the right looks a little to dark..
the nose and lips are good

very nice, i like the shape of the mouth and lips. although you have to analyze and identify what's giving the eyes a rather slanted look (taking into account the bottom part of the face, so that the eyes are symmetrical according to the rest of the face)

Kamikazie: Jim Morrison, but nice try ;) And actually he has black hair, I was just too lazy to color it in on one side.

Evil^milk: Yeah the eyes are effed up, I didn't take enough time with the inital outline. Thanks for the compliment :).

really nice...i like the way you made the mustache...
nice one!

i know that im not supposed to give "mommy" words but couldnt really see much wrong

I purchased two bridgman books, so here are some hands...

...and figures!

For art class (I do so much extra homework for that class, most people don't even do the one that's assigned, plus my teacher kicks ass)

Art Class still life (they were fake birds)

That's because they are blocking practice. So if you think that, they are succesful. Thanks for the comment.
