You're right :). I trashed that sketch (not literally) and opted for this one:

I cant stress this enough ..use models ..if you dont have access to real live models (friends, family etc) google a picture till you find something that helps you (example: drawing hands ..find a photo of a hand) ..I use photos/models for everything I draw ..and I've been drawing for over 30 years. Just remember that you're not copying the phot ..you're just using it for a reference

btw your hands sketch shows improvement ..gj

That's because they are blocking practice. So if you think that, they are succesful. Thanks for the comment.
block practise for what?

And today, for the first update in god knows how long:

This is what happens when you're bored in math: distorted proportions and makeshift anatomy:

Trying to understand faces:

I was surfing the web when I saw a screenshot from the upcoming game DoD:Source. Since I had a pen in hand, I quickly sketched it for reference on german soldier's clothes during WWII:

If you scroll up a bit, you'll notice I had a sketch of a soldier sleeping that I was planning to paint. Well, I've been painting it for two weeks and I just decided to start over even though I only have a week left until the deadline. I think it was just impossible to make a proper painting from it, it's way too liny and I'm not such a great painter at all. I actually feel good about starting from the drawing board. So here is the sketch for the new painting I'm going to do. This one was quickly done in 10 minutes with a flat graphite pencil:

I think someone needs to update their thread, not to mention their sketchbook

venturon piss off.

that is not constructive critiscism
----------------------------------------

Fit pencil work i wish i could do whole faces!

i prefer drawing buildings :)

I was only expressing my interest and reminding him to update, but thanks anyway for being rude Joims. Maybe you should follow your own advice, especially considering that you didn't actually offer any constructive criticism either.

I'm going to have to agree with Venturon, Joims :|

Aww Joims, I appreciate your defense but I really don't need it, I agree with venturon 100%

This is a doodle I did in math today, I will be posting a larger update soon I promise. Just to remind you, I go to an extremely hardcore private school, and we have piles and piles of work every night.

Awesome! WW2 for the win. :)

Will you be adding to it? Or more WW2 doodles/sketches/whatever?

Only crit, looks like he's holding the Garand a little too close to him.

I like the yeller paper, goes with the style, I think. Got a "da vinci" thing goin' on.

Thanks man, :D, I don't really know how soldier usually hold their rifles :p. I don't think I'll keep on drawing it, it was just something to keep me awake in class.

Yay :) I look forward to seeing it

Thank you Derwen :)

Been doing nudes in art class, did some of my own at home (wink nudge). Each woman is done in less than a minute. I'll have more and better ones soon hopefully. (oh yeah, and I keep cutting them off, I need full body ones but they're hard to find)

Love the first and third ones. You're getting alot better.

TheSomeone....you know i really like your drawings.

The pure simplicity.

Very few people can draw so clean like you.
(and i saw other people's work in this forum..wow those are also great!)

Trust me..its a rare type of talent. :p

Thank you Derwen, I'm extremely flattered. I remember you from a long time ago in your gallery, I must have posted in it back then. I hadn't even posted any of my art at the time ,I don't think (considering this one got showcased a week ago :p)

What I always dreamed I could draw as a kid ^_^

Too many things wrong with this one to count:

EDIT: Yup, I did post in it, page 1 :)

Naah...just a tiny thing about the woman..

You should move her mouth to the left a little bit more.

Other than that...its great and looks soo lovely! :p

Drawing faces has to be the one things that most artists aren't very good at just because we can critique then so much. Drawing a face... requires talent. You have that talent.

WIP from ref. Any suggestions before I go on?
It needs more depth. And the composition leaves something to be desired. Also, it looks flat--

Kidding. That looks great dude. I envy your determination. That isn't done over a transparent layer of a photo, though, is it? By "ref" you mean you looked at something and not traced it. Right? Her right side of the face could be sharper since it doesn't match the left. And maybe you could define the nostril a little more, although if you're going for that bright-lights look, its fine. Can't really tell yet.

Anyways, keep it up.

:D

Woah, good spotting about the nostril, I don't know how i totally skipped over that. An no it's not traced, I put them side by side on the same document. Thanks for the post Erestheux :).

Wow very nice. I wish I had some artistic talent to do something cool like that. I can't even do stick figures correctly.
