They Hunger: Lost Souls

Actually come to think of it Ravenholm probably has a lot more to do with the current announced Zombie projects than TH.

yes but Ravenholm was "inspired" by TH, didnt you notice the similarity?

This is awesome. If it's less than $15 I'll pay up. I feel it almost a duty to encourage this sort of entreprenuership (screw sp) and creativity.
Fueling the mod market only makes better mods!

Kind of yes, but kind of no.

There are lots of people making Mods who just want to make the next CS. Half of them simply want the glory of a good Mod getting praise. Half want to earn $£€. Both are under the illusion of Mod-making being an easy route to cash and glory and usually want to make Mods using existing motifs and little originality.

On the other hand Mod making getting bigger is pushing the boundaries and allows games companies the chance to snap up "out-there" ideas that their financial backers wouldn't be happy taking a chance on, mainly because they don't play games themselves.

Bah, and of course it will be a Steam-only release so I won't be able to play it (legally anyway). I need a credit card, damn it. :|

well how do these mods work, that you charge for? i mean does vale get a %? do you get all of it? it uses alot of valve work, so should valve get a % of that money?

If i was gonna get retail on the cheap, I would get reality, its cheap, GREAT, has better shaders and graphics, ok physics engine, then you can digitally distribute it through vapour or something. its only like 2000 bucks. 10 team members giving 200 bucks a piece and blammo

Lost Souls?

Looking forward to this. I just now downloaded and installed They Hunger I-III, and it's quite good. Still in the beginning of the game and I got a good jump or two.

Anywho, I think I heard someone say (and I know I read on the official FAQ) that you can't play They Hunger through Steam, which definately doesn't seem to be the case, seeing how I've been doing just that for the past 30 minutes. Just put the mod in "\Program Files\Valve\Steam\SteamApps\YourName\half-life\Hunger\" and start steam and it works fine.

On the subject of the Source sequel-- yay!

Why is every mod going commercial? Half-life had/has the best mod scene ever. Is Steam ruining the free mods community?

Are you kidding me ???

BLOODY HELLFIRE!

This is incredible! Manke is one of my all-time favourite modders... and the likes of Schröder helping out?! BEST NEWS EVER!!

Excuse me while I have a small fit! Fantastic news!

I think that Neil Manke is quite past the "glory" part.

No "They Hunger" in my games list

I tried this because it's been such a long time since I'd played that mod that I really want to check it out again. Unfortunately when I start steam it doesn't show the game in my list. My understanding was that it would be in the play game list and I could start it like the other games/mods. Is this not the case or am I'm just experiencing technical difficulties?:dork:

edit: after looking again I realized that the installer had put it into a second hunger folder, moved the files over to the first one and voila, it works, sweet!

if it'll be only distributed trough steam, then no chance... ;)
there's still people out there not having a credit card and me is included... :(

if it hit stores and is good... why not? :)

So what? CS uses many HL2 models, textures, etc. DoD also does. And we all paid for both.

It probably depends on the license deal they got. The first old news from Neil's site says "Valve has been in contact with us and they support the idea of TH:S. This was an important first step towards making this a viable project." I suppose that clarifies it right?
Sorry to spread this out a few pages, been asleep

But as for CSS and DOD, both are Valve games and thus valve owns the IP and is thus free to reuse anything they like. Since this isnt a valve game the situation is different. Perhaps they have permission, I really dont know and it's why I asked.

I really hate people who consider things like games to be some sort of basic human right! If you can't afford it, GET A JOB!

But there is allways the last solution.. Pirate, Copy, Crack.. and the key word is FREE... so if I dont want to pay I dont have to... whatever.. and im only 17 and still studying.. its not that I think downloading is a good thing but without money thats the way it is right now.. But HL2 was really worth buying ;) Well if this mod is really as good as it seems and have the kind of low costs it says then ill probably buy it.. But as with DoD source, there are to many good mods that are free and seems better to make any sense of buying DoD:S... :|

Yeah most of us know that but newbies might think he's "just another overnight success" (they don't really exist in the game development business).

Just downloaded all 3 episodes from file planet, seems to be a lot of PC gamer advertising in it, but then again they published it apparently so what can ya expect, little buggy, but other then that its fun, bit frustrating at some points, can't wait for the source one now, just gotta complete all 3 episodes :upstare:

Suppose it depends on how long it takes you to play through them along with the difficulty, i started it on hard but found that there was sooooo many of them and not enough ammo so doing it on medium now instead, but if you just ran past the zombies rather then fighting them (which is quite easy i might add) would probably last about ........ 2-3 hours, thats just a guess though.

dude, someone ran thorough hl2 in like 45 mins. drackard could be tha 1337

lol, it is hard to be "1337" at a mod that revolves around just shooting at anything that moves and groans in a rather sexual way ............ anyway ..... moving on .......

You never played they hunger did you? What about Franklins underground laboratory? The helicopter battle? The train driving section, running over zombies? The army attacking the zombies by surprise at Stonehenge? Going down into a vulcan and jumping between geisers to get out? The numerous climbing and solving puzzles like in the main sewer room? All the similarities with HL2 such as opening a valve to flood a chamber to reach a higher door and escape? They hunger has a huge fanbase for a good reason I can tell you.

lmao, i just said that i downloaded it the other day and that havn't really got into it yet, i was just stating what i had been through so far.
