Blizzard is a company that valve should take note of.
Im not comparing any of their games here, but look at what players of WOW will get, FOR THE SAME PRICE AS THE HL2 CE

WOW:
The full game on both CD-ROM and DVD-ROM
One-month subscription to World of Warcraft
The Art of World of Warcraft, 200+ page hardcover art book
World of Warcraft Behind-the-Scenes DVD
Exclusive in-game pet
Official soundtrack
Cloth map charting the continents of Kalimdor, Azeroth, Khaz Modan, and Lordaeron
Signed Collector's Edition game manual
10-Day Free Guest Pass - invite one of your friends to join the epic quest

Now with valves offering:
Counter-Strike: Source - The next generation of the #1 online action game
Half-Life: Source - Digitally remastered version of the original acclaimed PC game
Free Limited Edition T-shirt - Offered in men's size XL only
Half-Life 2 Prima Book - Information on character backgrounds, the making of the game, and more than 100 pieces of artwork

Blizzard, makes a real CE
Valve, promotes their own media, at the detriment of their customers.
As yes, both are Vivendi products

yeah ... and by the way ... valves not giving u the whole prima book with the ce ... just some stupid sampler or something

Yup and I will be getting that most assurdly. Still out on the CE/Gold ed. for HL2.

As far as I am aware Vivendi is in charge of content for the CE as they are the publisher.

That's what I was thinking too. Good job. I love when somepeople think about the whole picture and not what right infront of them. (OMG CSs RIGHT NOW) DADDY BUY ME THIS GAME!

I just hope it is as good as the Gold edtion. They shouldn't disadvantage those of us with no credit card to not getting the full goodness of a complete CE for HL2

Well Vivendi should be in charge of blizzards as well then, and look what they get! Something is fishy here...
Im sure the companys must design their own packages then...
Especially with valve, vivendi would want its retail package to be VERY GOOD to compete with steam. So I am lead to believe that Vavle devloped the package....

Now, valve makes a great game, no denying that...but I ****ING hate how they are treating those going the collectors edition.

Valve specialise in making games, not noverlty junk. While you are busy fondling your cloth map, ill be playing hl2.

CE's are about novelty junk. DUR. That's the whole point

Now, their is fundamentally nothing wrong with the CE by itself. Its just what you get for going steam that causes the anger.
Now, none of this supporting valve bs aside....they still get money from the retail packages, yes it is not as much (I wonder how much they lose actually) but im sure its the majority.

Just out of interest - it will be possible to get CS: S and HL: S separate from the CE, correct?

This was listed as an example only.
I am not getting WOW. I stay clear of those type of games, they are to addictive and time draining. Im sure it would be great fun though

Can't believe you ungrateful people are complaining.. you could have nothing bitch.. how about that.

I am guessing through steam

Maybe they'll offer them seperately, but not for free that would be stupid.

There is NOTHING wrong with the CE itself.....
Until you look at the OTHER EDITIONS. That is when it becomes unfair.
The gold edition will entail mailing things to you....for all intensive purposes it is the SAME as the CE except you dont have the original install disks.

but everyone used to beg.. please VALVe give us anything... and we will be loyal and happy. VALVe gives us a freee copy of the most played multiplayer game in history updated and playable in the source engine for absolutely nothing, FREE.... just being a loyal customer and purchasing HL2 and what happens... everyone starts bitching. Buy the ****ing game. Lay off the ho-hos and Playboys for one month and buy the gold package and you get 5 years worth of entertainment.

It don't take a GED people. Go big or go home.

"Not feeling or exhibiting gratitude, thanks, or appreciation."

For getting charged more for what appears to be less compared to other companies products.

Thanks!!!

BTW we still have nothing.

Other companies are not offering the biggest title this century either :)

PS.. I was a DOOM Fanboy and use to flame you HL2 fanboys.. now I am one :)

Not everyone. As for the Free MP game well it was always "free" until they marketed it.....

BTW what does : "I don't take a GED people."
Do you mean you do not have a GED? Im confused. But you will probably blabber back with obsenities and possibly barbs against my mother and I would understand even less.

;)

I see it as this.
Vavle are shafting those who are choosing to go with the traditional method of obtaining a hard copy of the games.
This is unfair. If I want to buy their great game, then I should be able to as I choose, with the packages being comparitivly fair. $20 more for the GOLD edition does not equate to all the extra stuff that you get. So it is unfair.

O you would be suprised at the "fan" base WoW has.

not a great comparison, seeing as WOW is a pay-to-play game.

CS:SOURCE is HL2 multiplayer component....So how is it free?!?!
All the CE is getting extra is really this:
HL1 source, yes I like this
T-Shirt, cost them maybe 2 dollars to make?
Primer book sampler - Advertising for a book that I am already getting and a hint guide I wont touch till I finish the game once

Where is the Soundtrack?! at the very least.
Oh wait, its in the GOLD package! Silly me!

But that is for the upkeep of the servers, the game content and such things is given to you intially in that package.
I see your point though.
I had to find another VU game though, so this was the best one for my argument

neener

I am so excited! I personally think the Gold package is worth it but... I had an ATI coupon so I am only paying the price of a game anyway :)

Well congrats, though is has nothing to do with my comparision.

I wish valve could clarify if they made the package, or if vivendi did. As my anger if either wrongly placed, or greatly justified.

If the CE also gave you right to say play DOD or something when it was released then it would be less bad, though we have no information on this at all either.

You have a website Valve, friggin use it. Put up offical information and a FAQ or something. Why do you have to HAVE to be different to every other company.

I have the perfect example of what valve is like:

I go into a shop wanting to buy a pencil...
Me: I want a pencil
Guy: We have two pencils, one with an eraser and one without
Me: Well how much
Guy: Exactly the same price
Me: Well Ill take the one with the eraser
Guy: Oh if you take that one, then you have to write using only your left hand
Me: Well shit, I guess I will have to take the one without the eraser.

Or you could just admit you are a cheap ass... we are talking 40 bucks.. don't eat out for a week or go give blood or something.

That's not a good analogy. If I go by your example then there would be two versions of HL2 available. One just plain old vanilla HL2 and the other one had all the extra goodies. They would be the same price but the one with the extra goodies would only be playable on a Mac or something.

Where did 40 bucks come from?!
I am not cheap arse
I am Paying 160 AUS DOLLARS to get the retail game here. I am paying MORE THEN YOU.

And in australia, WE GIVE BLOOD FOR FREE. We don't need to be payed for helping others.
And yes I do this every 3 months anyway

For the same price my arse. WOW has a monthly subscription which hasnt been agreed yet but will be in the region of 10-15 US dollars per month.

Before you whine at Valve, why don't you try to put together a cohesive realistic arguement?

yeah your probably right. Valves Godl Deal Is pretty nice.

As I have already stated,
I needed another game by VU for comparison.
As far as I know, the monthly fee is yet to be decided.

Its an example, the truth of the matter is that valve are not fair in their options (assuming valve is making the package here, but like I have said Im sure they had primary input (somthing to ask valve)) the extra price of gold is not enough to cover all the extra stuff that you get with it.

The summary is very simple.
Those opting for the hard copy get reamed in comparison
Valve is shamless favouring a set way of doing things

HOLY SH!T i might just buy WoW now, they indeed pwnz3d VALVe and every other company who put out a CE edition of their game. Unreal 2k4 Editors Edition was also very nice all for 39.99. of course every

Hey Edge, some ppl might not be able to afford to waste money for an inferior package - its not being cheap, its being sensible

Im in Australia and as far as i can tell id be paying MORE for the CE than for the Steam GOLD, and ill be getting a shitass package in return for my money, Valve have seriously screwed me over, ill be buying the standard boxed version....

as for making you buy a more expensive version just so you can get DOD:S and HL1:S, i think thats cheapass, ive already bought HL1, im not buying it again, and DOD is a free mod
