ill give you "months", but not a "few months". its like 23 days till x-mas. i severly doubt hl2 will be here by then. :\ we havent gotten barely any info about hl2 since the "hack/leak/steal"

Uh...few months? Last I heard it was April. That's more like four. Another thing to point out from the recent Gabe interview is how he phrased the development process. Here's a snippet:

Kelly has been developing the notion of soundscapes

Notice how Gabe said 'has been developing' opposed to 'developed,' as in, done. I think there's a bit more left to do than they'd like to let on.

Can anyone help him out on how to find how many posts he has, and how much more he'll need to get to Strider?

I suppose the re-structured hierarchy makes more sense. A Strider is a tad more of a threat than your average Combine soldier.

Uh...we sort of dealt with that issue already. I now know the system has been changed so 'Strider' is now at the top. Wasn't much of a point for you making that comment seeing as the conversation is now over. And another thing, why does this forum have to follow silly rules to a 'T'? So what is the conversation went off track a bit. It's not the end of the world or anything. Some of you moderators act like you're doing the lord's work or something. Not that big a deal really.

EDIT: I can understand if someone if being overly-offensive or just ranting for no apparent reason. I made a legitamate post based off of something I happened to notice right then and there. You don't need to bring out the mod brigade every time someone trips over a stone or forgets to dot their i's.

wrong, it can't turn into a TF2. they will release it by april, they have no choice, if they don't they'll lose tens of thousands of sales to the games shiny new engine not being so bright and shiny anymore.

If it's a good game people will buy it, regardless is the tech is outdated, which I doubt it will be seeing as how there are few games out there in development that have comparable visuals to Half-Life 2 right now. Also, seeing as how it already has such a following, that's going to help the sales tremendously as it is. I'm curious, though, how are they going to lose money? Are you referring to the engine being licensed out to other game companies? Troika already has it and is using so for Vampire: The Masquerade: Bloodlines. I somehow doubt the Source engine is going to become outdated anytime soon.

LOL...that reminds me of the thread back in September regarding the last Bink video, the "HDR" one. That thread filled up with over 100 pages of spam in quite a short while.

That's where I'd place my bets. What month was the original released in? Not as if Valve would be trying to align the stars just the right way for this to happen with the sequel, though. Just curious.

That was quite astonishing, there must have been like a post every few seconds. Another (not-so) fond memory was with all the beta buzz, and the forums having 5064 people browsing it!

I can hang around if you wanted, I wont complain.... honest *grins*. Naa I've just got myself DVD's really this year so wont be off playing games and don't have plans to go anywhere as I'll no doubt be sat here working on some job anyway by the looks of it.

So yeah I don't mind sticking around most of christmas Eve, and Christmas day afternoon/night (probably wont be around in the morning though).. I end up missing the place when its down for a day anyway (I gotta get out more haha)

By what set of Datum are you basing your conclusion?

He isn't basing it on anything since Valve havn't said anything.

Really though if Valve didn't have it anywhere close to done (as it looks now) by Sept30th why did they keep pushing the Sept 30th date? Surely the old "When it's done" would of been a more sensible approach? Even Gabe sounded confident that Sept 30th would be the date. In my personal opinion they have had to delay it for some unknown reason and they are adding some more features in the game that they couldn't get done for Sept 30th or Improving on the code.

I really can't see them having a no where near finished client on Sept 30th.

Based on this I think April 04 is a good estimate for release since if they have got an almost fully working client then they can just bide their time until the date they feel is right.

Another point to support this is Half-Life 2 relies heavily on Steam as we know, and on the date Sept 30th Steam was no where near ready to cope with Half-Life 2 and doesn't even seem ready yet with quite a few content servers still to come on-line (Valve are depending on Steam to get them a tidy little profit). Another good reason to delay.
