"This is huge!"

:O

avert your eyes children he may take on other forms!!!

I went to catholic school right up to the end of high school ...and I'm a much better person for having studied under the eyes of the lord ..in fact it probably made me into the person I am today ...thanks churchy school

As long as we're sharing how religious we were before we became atheists:

- Product of an Irish/Philipino household (Catholics! Catholics EVERYWHERE!)
- Baptized
- Attended Sunday school, went to church on a regular basis, many times of my own accord (sometimes I'd just go and read when there was no sermon)
- Cenacle every Friday night from ten years old
- Youth groups and Christian getaways in high school
- Became a born-again Christian

And then I woke up. Man I bet this post is really going to piss Walter off.

As Darkside said:

Unfortunately, mine's not very exciting.
- Raised by scientists (Note: NOT scientologists thank your god)
- Never went to church
- Read the bible three times trying to understand it
- Found it full of logical inconsistancies, brutal behavior, and extreme discrimination
- Carried on with science

Though I consider myself open to the possibility that god does exist, I am an atheist for the most part.

Grew up in what I would call more of a "spiritual" family rather than truly religious. My parents are quite spiritual but it didn't really rub off on me. I think the last time I actually believed in god was when I was about 5, though I didn't really understand or care much about it at that point. I was leaning toward being a bit more agnostic through my teenage years but as I learned more about religion, philosophy, and science I've become much more of an atheist in my 20's.

However, lately I've been kind of wishing I had more experience with organized religion when I was younger. Studying it and experiencing it are two very different things and sometimes I think my inexperience in this area leaves a hole in my general understanding of our culture. I've actually been mulling over the idea of going to church for a while to attempt to fix that hole. Though trying to decide on which one to attend has been a bit difficult. I may just have to go to several.

I was a full-fledged Christian for about four months back in 2001. Then I realized, holy shit, none of this makes sense. And another Atheist was born.

Amen.

Atheists in Jail

In other words, only 8 million of the 1 BILLION non-believers who damned well SHOULD be in prison are actually there. There is only one conclusion that I can draw from this rigorous scientific analysis: Atheists are lazy.

As a non-believer, I can tell you that the only reason I don’t kill people is the difficulty in disposing the bodies. First you have to clean up the blood. Then you have to drag the victim to a carpet and roll him up. Then you have to drag it to the car late at night. Then you have to drive the body and the carpet to the mountains and bury it. Then you have to buy a new carpet. I’m exhausted just thinking about it. And that assumes you already HAVE a shovel.

I think I speak for all non-believers when I say that the only reason we limit our sex to human beings is that animals run too fast. Have you ever tried to tap a caribou? I don’t care how hot they are with their little furry behinds – it’s not worth all of the running. That’s why most one-legged women are married to atheists.

I could teach you things like this all day, but frankly I feel a nap coming on.

What? So if somebody's beliefs change - Protip: BELIEFS CHANGE CONSTANTLY - they are a worse person because of it? That makes no sense.

let me clear it out to you as what i exactly mean:

You see two best friends together. At first you think they're an example. But then comes the third guy and gives one of them 100 bucks if he'd never talked to his best friend again, what he gladly accepts. Then guy that recieved the cash comes to you and offers to be your best friend.

That's what i mean. It's not about religion here, it's about trust.

That flawed analogy has nothing to do with changing your beliefs.

Well they probably werent very good friends in the first place....

As long as we're sharing how religious we were before we became atheists:

Product of an Irish household

Went to Catholic school/education from the age of 4 to 18 (Family stopped going to church when I was about 11)

I became an Athiest at about 12 years old, mainly to piss off my RE teacher (I really ****ing hated her) Eventually I realized that all the while, praying, church etc, I never actually felt anything, so it was probably better off this way.

It turns out, my mother has been non-religious for a long time, she had me and my brothers baptised and sent to catholic school/church so as not to upset her parents, and because it meant easy entry into the best schools in the area.

No no, i didn't say i am sure he did that. It's just my suspicion + what such a man is worth. But he of course could have stopped believing long before his political career, instead of selling out Allah because of elections :p . This is USA afterall, you know...one says "i don't care" and other says "death to all the muslims", don't you agree :) .

Hey, i didn't like my RE teacher too! ;)

[edit] whoa, i missed a couple pages. Response is in the works.

Dude, that third guy walked up and gave person A $100! When was the last time YOUR best friend gave you $100? And moneybags person C wants me to be his best friend? HELL YEAH!

I'm astonished that such blatant racism has been dragged into this. Hilary Clinton and her "team" are pathetic individuals for preying on Islamophobia in order to seize power.
Not that it's a new idea, obviously.

I'd consider what little there is here to be a semblance of an argument if it had any factual basis or relevance whatsoever.

Yeah, well remember that would be Walter if he didn't believe in God.

 Not moneybags person C, you after knowing it all.

Hang on, what's about trust now?

uh...whats going on here, is this about obama. :p
Since we're talking about how we were raised:
I'm the product of Portuguese/Mexican parents.
I went to a Christian school from kindergarten to 3rd grade. Then, since i wanted to go to public school in 4th grade I started going after Christmas break. I decided by the end of the year that i was not satisfied with the system and was home schooled in 5th grade by my mom. I went back to public school in 6th grade all the way up to now, as I'm a senior in high school.
My Parents are both born-again Christians and because of that I've gone to church all my life, been baptized... the works. I go to youth group now, and well life feels good. I've never really felt the urge to rebel and dishonor my parents although i almost got arrested once for being an accomplis in the theft of a darth vader cardboard cutout at my local video store.hehe
And um yea I'm going to Mexico with my youth group this over spring break. woot!:D

And um yea I'm going to Mexico with my youth group this summer. woot!:D

ha my sister is going on sum mission trip to Mexico too.

I have no problem with Obama being a Muslim though and I'll probably vote for him since i don't like Hillary Clinton. i do think most democrats like Hillary just because of her husband and if she wasn't the first lady I'd say she wouldnt have a chance.

My religious background:

I was baptized but was growing towards agnostic throughout my childhood. When I went to high school I was pretty much an atheist. Then I discovered Halflife2.net and reinforced my thoughts :D

But about a year ago, something really sucky happened. While I was playing basketball, I got in one little fight and my mom got scared and said "you?re moving with your aunte and uncle in bel-air". I whistled for a cab and when it came near the licensplate said "fresh" and had a dice in the mirror. If anything I could say that this cab was rare, but I thought now forget it, yo home to bel-air! I pulled up to a house about seven or eight and I yelled to the cabby "yo, home smell you later"! Looked at my kingdom, I was finally there to settle my throne as the prince of bel-air

Racist against Muslims? How is that possible?

didn't you know?

Muslims are a Race, just like jews!

lol

yes because words are completely rigid and never have dual meanings

wikipedia said:
Some writers have used the term racism to refer to preference for one's own ethnic group (ethnocentrism), fear of foreigners (xenophobia), views against interracial relationships (miscegenation), and/or generalizations about a specific group of people (stereotype).

oh look I didnt know italians were a race! or japanese

Oh come on, people. We all know that he was talking about fear-mongering prejudice of a specific group. Let's not play word games.

Granted, I think the religion of Islam is utterly atrocious. But if these very people can live by the tenets of Christianity as well, they really should have no qualms. Alternatively, they can accept moderate Muslims on the same level of moderate Christians. That or they recognize that his relatively brief Muslim upbringing is of no relevance today.

there aren't as many moderate Muslims as Christians though.

(I think)

edit:Im still voting for Obama btw.

How does that matter at all? Are you implying that we should deny equal social status to moderate Muslims because "Sorry, the rest of your kind isn't civilized enough"?

no lol,Im just saying you cant compare Christanity and Islam
They started out the same..kinda,but Islam got stuck.....in the feudal age it seems.

Not really.
Islam was far more technologically advanced than Christian nations for a good while, now chirstian nations thanks to science are more advanced.

Its not which religion is better, their both retarded, its just that Science rules.

/Bill nye the science guy

...Okay...

That still has nothing to do with what I'm saying.
