I just read through the interview with the guy that wrote the Makeing Of HL2 book. We are going to need to watch out for some things when this comes out.

They're looking to release it a week or two before HL2 comes out, but the book has ALOT of pictures in it. Alot of things that are in HL2 that haven't been talked about yet and will be major spoilers.

We need to really keep a look out for when this book comes out because I know the mods here are going to have to censor alot of pictures and close alot of threads made by a-holes posting pictures from this book.

So lets keep our eyes on this so we'll be ready for it...

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/t...f=sr_1_3/103-9505345-5778256?v=glance&s=books

(mabie the mods can just turn off image posting in the general hl2 forum. And do something for other links too. Just a thought)

Erm, isn't 14-30 days after the release of Half-Life 2?

The IMG tags are already shutoff in this section.

And yes, this is probably something that'll be annoying once the book is released. The Champions-clan for instance even said, in their plan over how they'll harass HL2 communities, that they'll buy strategy guides and post spoilers from them. :|

13-30 days prior? Oh crap. I can't resist the temptation and I'm going to buy it!

I am going to buy it too, they said it will be a limited print.... I'm just not going to look at the HL2 part of the book till after I've played it all.

Looks like I'll be doing the same. Got to cover up the Half-Life 2 part. :p

Hmm..
I wont buy this sellout b*****it.

What are they planing on next... Halflife2 dolls? Lol
Or maybee HL1+2 Platinum PAK!!!! :|

Why dont they just include the book when you buy in store?
and add a few bucks to the prize...

www.HL-Sellout.com no thankyou.. :\

How about this...No more user registrations until HL2, I mean we're so close, wouldn't be losing much if ya ask me :p

Is your name She or Shedevil? Geez... so negative....

But there's no need to worry any more than we already do now, don't forget every enemy in the game is already visible in the preload files.

We're likely going to re-open the Spoilers forum when this book is released.

However, that still requires people to have the willpower not to look in that forum if you want to keep everything new for when you play the game. Such as now when spoilers are posted, and people get annoyed with themselves because they've highlighted the spoiler tags - most of it lies in your own hands.

We'll also look at ways of ensuring that spoilers can't be viewed from the titles of threads in the forum index or by rolling the mouse over a thread item.

This is a superb idea.

No, it isn't.

People keep suggesting things like this, but it's just not something we're going to do. Let's say you really want somewhere to genuinely talk about HL2, but when you decide to join, we've disabled user registrations. Not exactly an image of welcoming community we want to promote ourselves with to be honest.

Sell out? Its for the hardcore Half-Life fanatics. I don't think adding a few books to the package would even cover the production of the book, not even make a profit.

p.s. Your link doesn't work. :p

I'm too weak not to look in the forum!

Not in my opinion. It's quite elitistic and not letting a couple of spoilerposters means not letting in hundreds (if not more) of normal people just wanting to discuss HL2 when it's released. Not all people discuss a game this much before it's released.

I can't see it happening. We're not that harsh :p

Well that, if anything, is a relief.
You've already taken a bunch of spoiler-bullets by now, shouldn't be any problem taking a few more. ;)

there was a forum i was trying to join but they disabled registration because of a doble posting bug from people that where to impatint to only press the submit buttion once

i got rilly mad and almost dint join but it was the best forum for that out there so...

as for the book... i dont think i cold have the book but not look at it :( so ill just wait to get it. or mabye the CE will have it :)

Same here.

I had no idea the spoiler forum was closed....know why? I never go there :p .

So if all things from this book are just going to be sequestered there, then that'll be good for the couple of us with the willpower to play HL2 without knowing more than Valve themselves have told us.

OK, good point. How about just when there are spam/spoiler attacks underway?

Or you know what you could do???

Do like steampowered.com's forums and put a disclamer up before you can go into the forum.

Just have it say that it is unacceptable to post anything with spoilers in a non spoiler forum.

So that way if they do it...there is no reason not to ban them on the first offence, and the problem can be dealt with faster.

Hm it says on there
Publisher: Prima Games (October 12, 2004)
So if thats the date of release..then yup november is our month.

Its still all a guestimate. Don't make any conclusions by that.

Yeah and i doubt Prima Dictates the release of Half-Life 2, remember they only WANT to release it 2-4 weeks before the game.

Anyways according to cliffe, the "making-of" book will not really spoil that much about Half-Life 2, It will show you what happened between HL1 and HL2.

The strategy guide is different though.

I won't buy the book. I have a problem with overlooking spoilers, so I won't take that chance. Being curious is a problem I tell you, and I can't even count the times I have ruined games and movies because I just HAD to look (just a little) on that one spoiler.. I'm WEAK!! WEAK I TELL YOU!!

So you'll be buying the book in a couple of weeks i guess.

If you're planning on having this Spoiler forum, I strongly suggest you have a thread where people can request that they are locked from viewing it (Thus making sure they don't accidently or by temptation spoil themselves later on) -- Or equivilent other method. If you don't, I believe it's an incredibly stupid idea, one of the worst to come from you, Chris.

Thats a great idea but allot of work for the mods to block 3000 odd people from seeing a forum. Maybe password it and only give the password out to those who want to get on there.

Whatever you do dont forget to remove the preview pane in the forum index as to not see the tittle of the thread in that section.

I'd be kinda disappointed if the book didn't contain spoilers. We already know pretty much all we ever need to know about the striders and so on. I'm not going to spend 30 bucks just to learn more about how they have three legs instead of four or something.

I want a comprehensive index of each enemy's development! :p

its a book for fans of valve. how can you be pissed off at them for being sellouts? theyre only giving the fans who would like to know more about their game making process a well made book. i think valve is on the top ofmy list of people who are not "sellouts." with a single purchase of HL or one of its mods, right now through a non subscription service (steam) you can be entertained by a multitude of quality games. and thats what ive been doing for years. no other company or product comes to mind which has given me so much entertainment for my money. with the risk of sounding like a valve fanboy, valve rocks.

I was just kidding..
I dont care if they want to earn some extra cash.. everyone wants money no..

Ask them why they sell Counterstrike Contition Zero.. Lol..
Needed some extra bucks too feed the source engine??
Or did they sell it beacuse it was a quality sell, and worth the money..

Worth the experience it held..
Singleplayer CS... WAY TO GO!... :p

I wouldn't even download it for free and loose 30min of my life..
But yeah.. Valve ""rocks""...

they sold condition zero because they're a company. companys sell things. that particular product didnt apeal to you, and it didnt to me either. that didnt stop a lot of other gamers from buying it, and people who i know that own it enjoy the game. plus theyre all now enjoying the cs:s beta.

I must say that changing developers 3 times couldn't exactly have been cheap.

Sure.. But Still, valve did it to earn extra money..
And not to give us an experience i hope..

The money.. :)

I just hope they dont charge for CS:SOURCE...

It's been confirmed that CS:S will come free with Half-Life 2 (don't know if it's the MP portion or not yet, but we do know that it comes free with HL2).

I am not going to buy this book, but I will be reading it in barnes and nobles or borders bookstore.

That's not very smart. It's exactly the opposite of my idea, this way people can spoil themselves. It still gives mods all of the work.

AND it creates another problem;
It provides that all those who WANT to post spoilers can't without asking for password/lockup for the forum which would result in spoilers slipping out all over the forums instead of where it should be.

I also don't like how Chrid_D completely ignored my post. If you happen to see this post, Chris, check back a page and read my post.
