... god they piss me off!

The adverts for them should read *wear your morality on your wrist.. let everyone know how wonderful you are!*

People who quietly give money to charities on a monthly basis via bank transfers etc who say nothing and don't wear a big 'joe obvious' symbol to show how great they are are the true heroes of this world.

Really? wow thats interesting stuff you got there.

Be quiet Chav, get back to your army of children who are crying out for a proper Father.

I too thank you for this interesting, yet insightful, thread you have made.

Hey, I have one of those wrist bands. :(

They said it would make me cool ;(

He's not even a chav, he just thinks the word is "cool".

And I'm pretty sure those wristbands piss off everyone. Cept those who wear them.

Thats the problem though. Most people do wear them and often compare/swap them like Pogs

Aye, sure. :upstare:

That because I added some Nitrous Oxide to the thread... sorry.

If you can't think of anything helpful to say in a topic, don't say it at all.

The wristbands are getting a little bit on my nerves now. My girlfriend and I had a bit of cold shoulder thing because she knows my views on charity, which are similar to yours Craig. You donate, and you don't go blabbing off to people about it to make you socially better or something. I actually had someone tell me that they didn't believe in the message of the band they wore, but they just wore it for a fashion statement.

This why I despise all this :/

Yeah they're stupid, but at least it generates money for charity (if the money is actually going to charity). It's not harming anyone

Do you have any actual figure of how much goes to charity though? I bet it isn't much.

Average band costs £3 and I bet out of that less than 20p goes to the actual charity in the end.

Just ignore them...
-.-
Who cares? Damn.

If I had a big ass pimple on my nose and said 'just ignore it' you'd find it pretty hard methinks... cept these are big ass pimples on peoples wrists. It's also gone from people wearing 1/2 to now having a whole lower arm full of the things.

Another problem SHIPPI, alot of the time they're not going to the actual charity. :(
I've heard/seen people use them as a sort of immunity, buying an Anti-Racism band, as if it means they could never be racist, then going off and calling people "chinks" and "pakis". :|

The upshot of all this is people are wearing wristbands made in sweatshops in Uzbekistan denouncing poverty :stare:

I've no idea, it's probably not much :( But, it's better than nothing I suppose. If people want to buy them to fit in, let them. Even if it's not much money going to charity, it's something I guess

edit: I know money won't get to charitys all the time, but for some types it will, surely

Haha, funny you should mention that.

The security guard where I work is just such a person. A few months ago he would wander round the stone in which the workforce is predomenantly Pakistani in origin and tell us 'non-paki's' racist jokes... I complained about him, he got in some trouble (but not enough to get sacked) and he is a wearer of the black / white bands that are intertwined... ironic, eh!

I saw a pro-environment one recently, and chuckled silently to myself. How much oil went into producing those bands?

Well it's sillicone as far as I'm aware, so how much oil is there in sillicone? A lot I'd assume.

I think it's pathetic wearing them as a status symbol, it's almost like making yourself look "elite" and above those who suffer.

People shouldn't give to charity for respect, if you do this you are a retard, give to charity if you would like to help the cause, not other reason.

"oh i helped all these people, i'm really good......makes me a better person"

The only good thing is that money goes to charity (good for the people helped by the charity)

Yeah, I was more thinking the manufacturing and shipping myself. Still, rather silly to be promoting things they're so ignorant about :/

You have to of course wonder what's next. I mean a few years ago if you stuck a few pennies in a charity jar you'd get a sticker, now it's wrist bands... next?

People with and who are pro Bulemia and Anorexia actually have their own bracelets/wristbands that declare their pride for their conditions however discretely.

Its the truth too. Sickening.

PRO Bulemia and Anorexia bands?!?
Christ.. they'll bring out Nazi bands next..

EDIT: Not that I'm comparing either to Nazism, but after being around people with bulemia/anorexia (in that mental home thing) people being proud of it strikes a pretty sickening chord with me.

Wow i could use those wristbands for finger rings just about.

It's nothing to be proud of having a seriously weak body.

Well, these people view it as a lifestyle choice, not a disease. They're morons, honestly.

Me too, it first started with LIVESTRONG, the yellow ones to show supprt against cancer, it quikly became a fashion accesory and company started making profit, it's unbelivable the number of causes they " support". I have even seen Tsunami band

yeah, its abit silly but i like some. dont wear them but some have good ideas behind them, supporting and bringing awareness to bullying, racism and such. Shame all the companies are just trying to get a quick buck out of people and a fashion craze. But thats capitalism for you.

Are you a commie then oldagerocker? :naughty:

I can’t be arsed reading the whole thing and this has probably been said before, but did you know that all these wristbands are made in illegal Chinese sweatshops. Yes you read that right, these sweatshops are so bad that they even break Chinese law. And what’s funny is that there’s an anti poverty one. Hahahah, these stupid idiots think they’re donating to a charity to stop poverty, when in fact they are causing it, while people who don’t wanna flash their “generosity” are actually trying to fix the problem by donating to charities without the little colourful, “look at me I’m such a great guy” band around their wrist.

I like them. I don't wear them, but I have no problem with them.

Staff are banned from wearing them where I work (Asda), because they are now associated more with neds/chavs than charities.

You are doing essentially NOTHING for a charity by wearing a simple wristband. It gains you zero respect from me, and anyone else with a shred of intelligence.

If you want to do something for charity - go and raise funds or donate, discretely and selflessly.

Respect to those that have done so for the last couple of hundred years

Ahh.. Pogs.. Those were the good ol' days.

Id rather just donate money then getting a crappy wristband thing.

Believe it or not, it was proven that the Make Povery History wrist bands were made by forced labour workers in China. So much for charity

I guess it's a UK phenomenon.. but really, you shouldn't get ANGRY at them for having them on or something. Yes they may not be as humble and giving out of the graciousness of their heart the same as an anonymous donor, but they aren't in any way doing any disservice with them.

EDIT: I guess Livestrong would be one of the only charity bands here. In which case I still see nothing wrong with them. You buy them in a store and the money goes to cancer research.

Even if people themselves buy them just for a fad or fashion it's still a good thing.
