So no, i can't feel sorry for the kid when his past behavior points heavily towards this just being another made up story. Think about it, he gets one of the others to do it for him cause he knows if I caught him doing another himself I'd ban him in a second. So instead he does it on MSN or something where he knows im not watching.

If this is a fake...than I have no sympathy.

But..if not...

I may be in the minority here a bit. I mean, think his parents are a bit harsh with the punishment, and maybe they should actually take an interest in what he's doing a bit more. But didn't he say he's 12-14? I'm sorry, maybe it's because I'm a lot older than most here, but if he's giving phone numbers out (clearly without his parent's permission) to people online...that would bother me too as a parent. If you have a phone number, than it's pretty easy to get an address.

Yes, most people online are fine and I've made many many friends on the net; I even made a girlfriend of 5 years (in real life I mean...but we met online). But it's so incredibly easy to lie when you're not seen or known (I've seen it more than once on even these forums...actually the topic of this thread is being questioned as truth or lie!) and if you're that young, it's too easy to trust.

For those who disagree: put yourself in a parent's shoes. Would you really want your young teen handing out your phone number to someone you don't know, and who they only know through a computer screen? Given the time perhaps I would allow it (say maybe I could talk to the other teen's parents on the phone first)...but I would not give free reign to talk to anyone, and I certainlly wouldn't allow them to be giving out the phone number without me knowing about it...ever.

Just as a little anecdote: my first time in a chat room way back when. I was talking to this woman who claimed many things. We talked for over a few daysand she sent me her picture. She was gorgeous. I lost contact with her shortly after because I had to cancel my internet (was my first ISP and I couldn't afford the Long Distance charges and there were no local numbers here then-I live in a small town).

So, many years pass. One day I was shopping with a friend and she wanted to look at picture frames. And, loe and behold, there was the woman from the internet staring back at me! She had sent me a picture that comes with a frame! It was my first (and not even close to last) lesson on how easy it is to lie online.
