Tonight's Debate?

The last minute = more maverick than you can handle.

Biden: "My Father used to say, he said 'Champ, you get knocked down, you get back up'"

*silence*

Biden: "I GET KNOCKED DOWN, I GET UP AGAIN, YOU'RE NEVER GUNNA KEEP ME DOWN, I GET KNOCKED DOWN, I GET UP AGAIN, NEVER GUNNA KEEP ME DOWN"

"Pisssin the night awayyy"

hey her knocked up bitch brussel sprout is there. Not that bad a loo*just saw her face. Nvm, don't think its the knocked up one.

Hahahah, lights dim, spotlight on him.

Man. I was really impressed with Joe Biden tonight.

Palin annoyed me in how she kept seemingly avoiding questions and speaking on something else.

I love the conservative post-analysis.

"She was folksy! She connected with middle-class voters!"

What? Since when? One minute after the debate? Where the **** were the throngs of people running through the streets with their McCain/Palin banners? Has the middle class expressed their unanimous opinion via telepathy to the CNN news room? I seem to recall your stupid ****ing "perception analyzer" at the bottom of the screen dipping across the board whenever she tried to link the argument to OHHARDWORKINGSOCCERMOMS.

Jesus Shit Christ.

I stayed up through a brutal migraine for this. Was totally worth seeing Biden run rings around her, and finally getting some perspective on the man. She annoyed me so much, I felt actual burning hatred at her constant smiling and folksy language. Palin did play it better than I thought she would, but Biden humiliated her without her even realising. His crafty smiles said more than her entire speech.

"Say it ain't so, Joe!" - Sarah Palin, Vice Presidential Nominee

Aye. Actually, I was struck by Palin's early confidence and relative competence; compared to her CBS news performance, this was great. But then as Biden began to really start chewing on the substance of the issues, she slipped ever down, leaning on gigantic question-dodges, unconvincing talking points and nauseating sentimental cliche until, by the time the debate ended - who need's Tina Fey? - she'd become a parody of herself.

That said, Biden stripped my bullshit alarm a few more times than I'm pleased by. But he succeeded in both of the aims of the Obama campaign: in hanging the Bush administration around McCain's neck, and furthermore in running a clean, gentlemanly game. There was a huge danger that Biden, old, white, washington insider, would be seen on live TV absolutely ripping into this folksy underdog woman - that he'd look like an oppressive joke. But by directing most of his attacks against McCain, and being courteous, he avoided the trap, which made Palin's gee-shucks 'outsider' posturing quite a lot less credible.

Also, they both keep mispronouncing the name of the Iranian president, and that pisses me off for some unaccountable reason.

OMG she talks about issues at the kitchen table with her family omg i do that 2! She really understands me.

Like the rest of you I was a little disappointed that Palin wasn't ever quite as howlerific as in her interview with Couric. I think another performance like that really would have buried her.

As it was she was still laughably weak and outrageously evasive. It will be hard for the Republicans to spin this performance into a triumph, but watch them try their damnedest. Her frequent resorting to sickening kitschy sentimentality will certainly help them in that regard.

As for Biden: eloquent enough, solid performance, but GEORGEBUSHESBUSHESBUSHESBOSNIACKS

she did better than i thought, still lousy, but better

i dont like how after the debate they claimed she did a great job. Since when is not screwing up considered doing a good job? Everybody expected a train wreck and instead got a performance that was mediocre at best.

I wanna know what was said when they had their family on stage.

I'm fairly certain Sarah Palin doesn't know what the expression "Achilles Heel" means. =/

Her folksy stuff worked in the beginning, but as the debate went on she seemed more and more contrived and defensive. The tables turned toward Biden and he rose to the situation.

It looks like Palin learned that if you don't know the answer, talk about something completely different.

At least it looks slightly better than making stuff up and sounding like an idiot.

Her folksy stuff worked in the beginning, but as the debate went on she seemed more and more contrived and defensive. The tables turned quite literally toward Biden and he rose to the situation.

I dont recall seeing any tables, let alone tables that rotated in the direction of any particular person.

Little did you know I was at a raver party with an amazing DJ at the time.

I'm not surprised she did better than she normally would have. She probably had a team of 20 people teaching her and training her what to say around the clock, day after day after day. Way more than any sort of prep that candidates like Biden and Obama would need.

I'm talking George W Bush prepping.

I liked how Biden said that the U.S. and France helped defeat Hezbollah in Lebanon.

I dont like how after the debate they claimed she did a great job. Since when is not screwing up considered doing a good job? Everybody expected a train wreck and instead got a performance that was mediocre at best.

That's nothing. One of the local retarded news networks down here claims she won the talk because she didn't screw up. Like no bad reporting, bad.

I like how she was "folksy" the whole time. Joe Lunchbox will surely like those winks she gave the camera. :hmph:

The fact that she did not know the answer to most of the questions and tried instead to enchant people with her down home "straight talk" made me physically sick.

That she doesn't even know who actually controls the military forces in Iran is absolutely staggering incompetence and so she needs to stop patting herself on the back for saying the president of Iran's name so often.

I think she clearly demonstrated that she is nowhere near prepared enough to potentially become the most powerful person in the world.

Since when does 'straight talk' translate to 'refusing to answer questions'? Or is it just automatically straight talk as long as you refuse to make any concessions to gays...?

I wish the millions of people who claim she performed okay would wake the **** up.

Biden won imo he answered the questions straight forward and to the point
Palin changed the subject to many times and she winked that just gave me the chills *shudders*

ewwww.

Palin did perform well in comparison to her earlier interviews ..but the content of her side of the debate was just as shallow, inept, and superfulous as her earlier interviews, she just handled it better ..or rather her handlers did a better job of coaching her. Even with the obvious coaching it was plain to see she had a very basic understanding of the issues

what bothered me most was her unprofessionalism disguised as being folksy ..her smiling for the camera with knowing looks, winks, and nods was beyond annoying ..it's like it was her first day on the job and she was bending over backwards to be liked ..which ironically is true of her situation.

Biden performed rather well and to his credit he pulled his punches when needed and was tough when expected. I like bide'sn subtle poke at palin when he brought up the bush doctrine ..he missed a golden opportunity to nail palin for not knowing what it was (although I'm sure he realised her handlers had probably already filled her in)

gotta love her defense when they mentioned her saying she didnt know what the vice president did.

"I was joking!"

oh, well since that must be true, PALIN 08!!!!

:(

The context of that line makes it even worse than many people realise. She was being asked what promises she was willing to compromise on in order to reach bipartisan consensus.

Her response was that because she's 'been doing this, like what, 5 weeks? lol', that she hadn't made any promises that she could break.

So 'I can do whatever the f*ck I want because we all know that no one takes what I say seriously *wink*'.

Had it been anything else it might be possible to believe it was a joke. But I can't believe it was a joke, because even as a joke it makes her look terrible:
'What things have you said you will do that you will be willing to compromise on?'
'LOL I haven't said I will do ANYTHING! HAH! olol'

It's just a complete lack of any substantive knowledge about policy,

Eddit: you may have been talking about a different statement, I've had that '5 weeks' one stuck in my head...

I like bide'sn subtle poke at palin when he brought up the bush doctrine ..he missed a golden opportunity to nail palin for not knowing what it was (although I'm sure he realised her handlers had probably already filled her in)

Yeah, but at the same time, as someone mentioned (I think Sulk) Biden was probably smart in not taking the bate to completely tearing her apart, instead he had his argument aimed at McCain more. And to the American people they'll perceive him as a gentleman for this.... even though all the Obama supporters wanted to see him eat her... *cough* alive.

Eat her alive, eat her out live, I'm not fussy.

I like how Biden succinctly nixed her whole argument about "If you're the party of change why do you spend so much time attacking the past? lol somebody needs to, like, get a life!" with three words:

Past is prologue.

Because, y'know, who the **** cares about what's happened in the last eight years, or that the Republican candidates see fit to extend its disastrous legacy for another four? Let's not talk about anything that's gone wrong for most of the last decade. I'm sure there's a magical equation in the middle of all that from which reform pops out. Right?

Stop being such a big nasty sarcastic bully. Those things aren't important.

YUU WUN SARRUH

I convinced my friend who was originally not voting to go for obama :)
his reason first was they're all corrupt like shit but after seeing this stuff and taking that one popular quiz he knows the lesser evil when he sees it.

Watched it this morning as it was repeated on Irish TV. Biden, I thought, was fantastic, seemed like a gentleman. His closing comments were full of win.

Btw Middle Class in the States= working class(as Europeans use that term)?
