If you watch(ed) the Tunnels movie from HL 2....and once Gordon starts making his way through the stairwell...when he shoots the soldier with a flare gun...then, he takes out his pistol and shoots the other soldier, and he falls off, and the railguard falls down along side him. Was this scripted? or can this happen whenver you shoot someone in a stairwell like that?

I'll eat my hat if that's scripted.

That was a non-scripted scene. It was showing off the destructive environment and the ragdoll physics.

cant wait for people to fall off of crap ;-)

Hell yeah, when I start playing i'm going to be luring combines to the edge just to do that again. :cheese:

i think the player aims really bad in those movies :D

If I had god mode/lowered damage on, i'd be taking my time too. Also, I think he wanted to show off the details as much as he could.

I'm playin through HL2 once with no cheats, then again with cheats, then again with cheats. And then I'll start my mp experience.

ill play through with no cheats, then ill go MP, while at the same time making my way through the game w/ cheats.

I'm gonna play through the first time with no cheats, then replay the game over again with cheats.

I'm going to play it through no cheats. Then go MP. depending on the first experience i may play SP again without cheats or with... but doubt it, MP is going to be huge! and i usually only play SP once wait several weeks before doing it again

goom why do you need 7 case cooling fans?

If you watch carefully you'll notice that it appears the first shot or two is aimed at the leg of the railing, maybe this broke it and then the other bullets were at the enemy, and he fell forward completely breaking the railing off.

That works out for you either way, because I know for a fact that your hat is made out of milk chocolate.

lol the "player" happens to be gabe (or something)

nah its a tester, keep in mind that a tester has to test how enemys respond...not kill them instantly, so you just shoot a couple of rounds and see what happens :) for the rest i must say that player in the movies is quite smart, or has played those levels before

I doubt they are using the record of the first run through this part of the level, so I imagine he has played the level a few times.
Toned down AI and shots doing less damage I'd admire the scenery too.

it was definately not scripted, the tenetacles grabbing the soldier later was though, not sure if the jump off the ladder was scripted, but that looked fooking ace

It wasn't scripted but it was setup, that was the only breakable bar there, if you look its already ajar before he shoots.

Referring to the same video, in the begining of it, when that one flying ball with blades (whatever its called) is attacking him, and Gordon hits it with a crowbar into that chest of paint cans (knocks off paint cans, destroys shelves) and if you notice quickly, you'll see that the ball with blades left decent sized scratch marks on the backboard of the case. Pretty neat.

Yea, but then when Gordon proceeds down to the lower floor, and when you see him shooting that 3rd soldier with the pistol, take a quick look to the bars on the left, they as well are adjusted, slightly bent.

Well yeah, its not going to be the only shootable bar.

i'm not going to play the game cus my ****ing computer SUCKS

hmm, not sure its the only section set to break, but if you noticed, he shoots the combine in the legs, this would promote a falling forward motion in the ragdoll.
Don't start saying it doesn't, or shouldn't in real life, its just what its more prone to do, anyway, whats the first thing you do if you're hurt in the legs, its lean forward/down to hold them, or guard them.

Exactly, i just watched it again and he definentely blows the guys kneecaps, your natural reflex would be to bend forward like that. So im pretty sure that aint scripted, but if we can do that all through the movie, im gonna be one happy little chappy.

The railing is actually a model and not part of the level geometry. So it acts accordingly, ragdoll physics and all.

yeah that definately wasn't scripted, I mean if someone shot you in the kneecap would you just stand up staight and walk it off? didn't think so :) Once when I was playing basketball I collided with another guy and my knee sort of got caught and it hurt like hell I grabbed my knee in agony....so....yeah

I think whoever played it at E3 was using a controller... cause with keyboard and mouse my motions are much more fluid and not so choppy like on a controller

then again maybe not

if they had to script a simple sequence like that, then the whole source engine is a sham.

Ladders

I haven't watched this movie because I'm trying to distance myself from HL2 media when it is so close to release and I don't want to spoil any experiences.

In this movie does Gordon use a ladder at all? Is it in the same HL1 fashion? I hope it isn't because that really was an arcadey feature of HL1. I wish Gordon would actually CLIMB the ladder rather than just wallwalk up it.

i dont believe he uses a ladder in any of the movies so far, shouldnt make much difference though unless your in 3rd person mode or playing online.

Though, the combine soldier in the sequence with the hydra climbs down a ladder... it is possible that all of the characters can do this, but we won't know until someone at Valve clarifies it or we actually get our hands on the game.

oh yeah, that was a nice bit of ladder climbing action right there.

that's definitely not scripted. just shows off what can be done... i'm sure at some points in the rail it wouldn't break off... at that area the rail was probably just week.

I just want to see the real A.I. (the enemies actually moving around and duck and jump etc. while in a firefight).

The combine climbing down the ladder does seem scripted... BUT I think you will actually be able to kill him... we'll see. If not, then that sucks... meh, shouldn't hurt the game too much I guess.

they should make the ladder scenes like bf or igi where u see him climbing in 3rd person.
