It was cool , not as cool as traptown though. It begs to be watched many times though. Cant wait to see MORE MORE MORE lol.

I really want to see the other ones , I wouldnt have minded skipping this one to be honest , but its nice to have nonetheless.
 
TUnnels owned - something changed though - in the gamespot video the guy on fire fell down while the one released didnt :eek:
 
Yes, more interesting to watch tnen the others. It shows us again the good physics model. I just love flying corpses...:cheese:
 
I liked this video. It was short but cool. The flames on the guy were nice. Also, the sparks that fly off of the walls when the Man Hacks hit stuff seem to bounce according to the surface they hit.

I still cant really tell how much bump mapping though there will be in this game. Some of the videos seem to have it places, but for the most part i just cant tell. I know these are from an earlier build and maybe they just havent finished adding the bump mapped textures but it would be nice to know how much of the total textures will be bump mapped. I think that would add more to the graphical realism.
 
What the hell are those "bump maps" that everybody is so exited about? Can someone explane?:x
 
see other threads for more info. Basically, a bump map uses a grayscale representation of height to make smooth surfaces appear textured. (Give them depth.)

My not really techie explanation: Bump Maps are a way of creating textures so that they appear to have depth when in fact they are flat surfaces. Think of it as giving a texture (physical) to a texture (art).

Designers can specify which parts of a specific texture are elevated or depressed. Basically, textures will look 3D even though they are flat.

Just look at Halo. It has Excellent bump mapped textures (especially the Library).

hope that makes it more clear even though i know it isnt the greatest explanation.

Here's the quick and dirty answer...they're directions for shading flat surfaces that make them appear like they aren't flat.

It's a whole lot more efficient than creating curved surfaces and then applying the shadow to them. They can be added to a surface through a simple bump map texture that tells the renderer whether the surface is raised or sunk at a certain point...

Any corrections or more in depth explanations are very welcome!

they use normal maps which are more advanced. they are colored.
 
I loved this video! Certainly one of my favourite
 
normal maps also include the "normal" information for the surface in addition to the depth info. (Normal is related to the angle of the surface at a particular point.)
 
By the way, I swear, that flame gun is not human made, looks like same design that combines used in most of their things (check out tank's art and that big black tower).
 
sorry about the extra thread...first thing i noticed was the flame guy not falling...second thing? the crosshair that seems to represent health, suit, weapons and damage.

I think somebody was right, awhile ago some poster said that demo doesn't record ragdoll physics.

Correct, they are calculated and executed on the fly, even in recordings, so the exact position and direction they fall could be different every time as seen in this video, he was very very close to falling, and keeping him up there better showed off the fire and it's ambience (you can actually hear the fire crackling, it's very cool!).

I really liked this video, it was one of my favourites from the E3 presentation and out of the 5 released so far, it is my favourite.
 
Wow... I love it. But it was Fuzzy. Not as clear as the others were. Did not know if any one else saw that. Made me think I need glasses.
 
I love how the guy didnt fall this time, bit of the old chaos theory there lol.
 
halo was in my opinion the best FPS ever, i hope HL2/Halo2 can top it
 
I don't know what that means for multiplayer but I think ragdolls should be server side so that evereyone can enjoy the kill......if you know what I mean....
 
I liked the shadows and reflections on the crowbar and pistol and the water you see on the ground in the first part of the movie.

Yes, nothing more satisifying then shooting your enemy in the head, while he rolls down the stairs tumbling in a puddle of water with his legs all bent up. :cool: Rainbow Six 3 is an good example of this. Anyways, I thought the Tunnels movie was alright, but not the best.

only objects which physics/location are of importance to more than one player will be server side...the rest will be client side(eg. rag-doll deaths, unless specifically coded for mods)

My first post :D.

Anyway. This is my fave video so far, especially that weapon. But has anyone noticed how dumb and tame the enemy soldiers are?. I mean yes they shoot at you, although not exactly accurate, but they dont move, they just stand there and wait to get shot.

Ive read around a few posts where people are certain this is an old build. Which is probably true. Hope the AI gets sorted out so we can get to see these soldiers ducking a diving.

Yeah, I bet we will be blow away when the final version is released. The demo really just was a preview of the source engine, so I doubt they were worryed about tweaking the A.I. etc.
