Well I was skeptical about what the Revolution was capable of but not anymore. Red Steel which is a gun blazing, sword dueling game from Ubisoft for the Revolution has been unveiled and it looks amazing. I can't post the screenshots here since they are from a magazine and I am not going to tell you that they are in the link in my sig either so don't ask. :naughty:

If someone was planning to PM me a link to the screenshots, I would advise them not to do it.

I didn't just send you a PM with a link to the images.

If a certain user had read the post, he would realize he did not have to ask for a link.

Hey he said he is not going to tell his the link is in his sig.

I think some English exploded in the middle of your sentence, you might want to clean that up.

I think we've discovered that I'm an idiot for not reading the post properly, and that Raziel is an even bigger idiot. The end :p

They game does look pretty cool though. I'll definately be getting a Rev since they'll be so cheap.

Looks stunning. I peronsally think some of those screens look like renders but I guess we'll find out at E3. The use of the revmote will be wicked too. 1up said Ubi will be announcing more of the game "in the coming days".

The link to the scans that was not linked to in the original posters' signature looked great. I hope it turns out to be as good of a game as it looks like it will.

I always wonder how games will be done on the Revolution though, I worry about rail games - games that move along on a predetermined path and you just aim and shoot. A roller-coaster game. I hate those. I hope this isn't one of those games.

Well...now I really can't wait until E3..if the scans are legitement screenshots, I'm more than a bit shocked. Looks like nintendo is about to get my vote as the best of show at E3.

Ingame...concept art! ha!

no j/k I'd believe they are ingame, pretty cool...the non-existant screens that is...

If you guys aren't thinking about the pictures I don't think you're not thinking about... I am not equally unimpressed about the lack of pictures... I think. :rolling: I'm confused.

Those aren't scans...those are some pictures of the magazine...so everything is unreadable.

EDIT: Found a summary of the pics of the mag.
The Plot:

You’re an american man married to a Japanese woman. On the night you are going to meet her father, she’s kidnapped. Turns out her dad is a Yakuza boss. There’s a ceremonial sword that will tilt the power of the organization towards the person who holds it. Saito, your wife’s dad, takes the sword but is mortally wounded. Tokai takes your wife to trade for the sword. Instead, Saito, her dad, gives you the sword and tells you to get his daughter back. He then dies. Your mission is to get your wife back.

You'll meet two masters once you get to Japan, one who teaches you the sword, and the other who teaches you the gun. They will also give you new missions, which will generally revolve around facing a new Yakuza boss. You'll have to convince the boss to get on your side by dueling with him and not killing him. Also, staying on the good side of your masters is very important.

The Controls:

The controls are really cool. By pushing the controller forward, you’ll knock stuff down and can use it for cover. By pulling it back you reload the gun. You aim by moving the controller. By looking at one spot continuously and moving using the analog stick, you stay focused on that target and kind of strafe-ish. You can lob grenades too in the game. It also says that the story is really good, and really focuses on using the controller a lot. Also, there will be headshots and stuff. Switching to sword will be instantaneous and you'll have to be quick about it.

Misc.

The whole game is based around the controller. To gain the allegiance of a Yakuza boss, you need to first defeat him in 1-1 sword play and spare his life. If you can’t, it’ll make life troubling for you when you face Tokai. Your missions will be given to you by your masters, and they will generally focus on you taking on a boss.

Also, Ubi says that the game is completely built around the controller. Hope this helps!

Ubi seems very excited about the controller. When they first saw it, they started thinking of ways and immediately started putting something together. When they got enough stuff together, they presented it to Iwata-san and Miyamoto-san, both of whom gave lots and lots of ideas for the game.

There is mention of some online multi-player, but it's almost unreadable.

However, just because the game is "built" around the controller, doesn't mean that it's going to suck as a game... (does it? >_<)

I'm thinking quite the opposite. The more it uses the versatility of the Rev. controller the better I'd think.

Yep, apparently an Ubisoft employee confirmed it on the IGN message board that were not concept art.

Sounds awesome. Screens look very next-gen too if they're real.

I just read the article, or as much as I could make out from the shots. Paraphrasing it (slightly):

It says strafing around a target is incredibly easy, as keeping the controller pointed at an object while you move with the analog stick keeps you focused on your target. Also aiming feels similar to using a computer mouse, as it's possible to quickly explore every direction in a three-dimensional space with quick gestures.

The gun on-screen appears at exactly the angle you're holding the controller. So you can run around firing sideways and looking cool. While this may not sound like a big deal, all those little details add up to create a superb sense of immersion. The magazine only got to play some sample stages, but they really felt like they were "living them", experiencing them firsthand.

Also, you'll also be able to lob grenades by "imitating throwing a ball with the controller in your hand", and even use an underhand throw to send them rolling along the ground. In addition you'll be reloading by tilting up/pulling back, knocking things over by pushing forwards, and peeking round walls (I think?) by twisting.

It says the team at Ubisoft spent lots of time (before they even had a devkit) trying to find the most 'fun' movements to represent all of these things.

There's also a sword available throughout the game, and you'll be able to perform stealth kills with it, and have sword duels with blade-weilding enemies. You will have to earn the trust and respect of certain characters by duelling with them, then sparing their lives.

For those who care, it seems that you're rewarded for not killing your enemies - instead taking them down in a non-lethal manner wherever possible. That'll be a quick pop to the kneecaps, then... :p

There's also mention of online multiplayer

if they have good physics the actual physical arm movement to throw grenades could be alot of fun.

I clicked on that link yesterday it was different. Now i click and its a forum :/
oh well. Game looks interesting.

Ubisoft hehehe. They don't pump out anything long lasting.

I don't know. The control doesn't sound like very comfy, it seems like all the effort is on making functions suit the movment of the controller and not making a good game and gameplay with rises higher that the new experience of the controller.

We'll have to wait and see.

DO send them NOT send them SEND send them ffs ME send me the god-damn links THE I'm waiting LINKS holy shit speed up TO right now THE wtf mate SCANS!

secret nazi message! OMFGWTFBBQ!

Yes, we all know Red Steel is one of the games that will redefine FPS, and that the controller will mimick all kind of weapons almost perfectly. But I decided to sum up everything that was readable in the mag scans, and it is very very interesting:

Story

It's a game about vengeance. You are an american male, and when your girlfriend is kidnapped, you discover her father, Sato, actually is a Yakuza boss. Sato's worst enemy, Tokal, kidnapped Sato's daughter to exchange her for a legendary and extremely valuable katana (yes, that will be your sword). Sato tries to attack Tokal's clan, but he fails and is injured. Before dying, he gives you the sword and asks you to save her daughter. So you have a sword and no skills. The game isn't only about searching for Tokal and killing him, but also learning new skills for the final showdown. That's kind of funny, cause we'll need to learn to master the remote, too.

Gameplay elements and other info

1. Game development started shortly after E3 2005. Ubisoft saw and demoed the controller before E3 2005.
2.Ubisoft Paris took their idea directly to Iwata and Miyamoto, and were given the go ahead. After that meeting they were given prototype controllers. The article states that Ubisoft worked "closely" with Nintendo's engineers in Japan on the title
3.Game Informer mentions that while conducting the interviews with Ubisoft, they were handed the "latest version" of the controller
4.During the beginning of the game, you are encouraged to use your weapons ruthlessly, but as the game progresses you become more proficient and strategic. This gameplay idea led Ubisoft to decide to give the game a martial arts setting. "Enter the Yakuza"
5.The first third of the game will be all about being "brutal by necessity"
6.You will be less precise and favor more devastating weapons (machine guns)
7.As you progress and become more precise, smaller guns will be used
8."The goal...is to use five bullets to kill five enemies"
9."When fighting with this level of skill, the music and sound effects will reflect it, remaining calm and peaceful"
10."When you fight brutally, the sounds around you grow increasingly more intense"
11."Audio feedback"
12.Freeze shot: by fighting effciently you fill the Freeze Shot gauge...fighting chaotically causes to decreases
13.When the gauge is filled you can hit a button to momentarily stop time, and then target specific locations on enemy bodies
14.Headshots thus are tempting, but non lethal shots, such as shooting guns out of enemy hand, can be more beneficial
15.By defeating high ranking leaders who command others and sparing their lives, you will be rewarded. He will offer you respect and help (guns, help, new weapons, alternate paths, etc)
16.Respect plays a MAJOR part in the game
17.Flailing your sword isn't a smart idea
18.Specific motions with the controller will trigger combos (in the final game)
19.Tracing an X in the air, for instance, will unleash a devastating attack
20.You can stop these combos at any time by simply pausing your own movement. So if you do something that leaves you open to attack, you won't be screwed
21.New moves will be taught to you by two mentors in the game
22.One will teach you gun tactics, and another will teach sword tactics
23.If you don't show the proper respect to them, they won't help you
24.Friendly/respectful interaction is tied to the controller
25.You signal "yes/no" answers by nodding the controller up or down or shaking it from side to side
26.You show extra respect by bowing to the masters
27.Ubisoft is still coming up with other interactions
28."You can act disrespectively as well: there are no cut scenes in the game - all conversations take place in game, as in Half Life 2. However unlike that game, characters wont keep prattling on if you walk away from them. They will react angrily to your imputent behavior"
29.Staying in the master's good graces is key: they give you missions that can be tackled in any order
30.You track down the gang leaders and try to turn them to your side. If you don't, they will join Tokai's (the main villian) gang
31.You have to prove you are worthy to them by battling them and sparing their lives.
32.You will need as many of them with you as possible to face Tokai. Without their help, you'll have a rough time when you finally face him
33.You turn gang leaders to your side by besting them in battle and stopping a deadly blow miliseconds before it strikes
34.Training sessions are offered by the two masters so you can hone your skills
35. Spliscreen mulplayer and online.

About multiplayer

1.Split screen multiplayer with traditional deathmatches
2.Totally original multiplayer modes Ubisoft is not revealing yet. Wait until E3
3.They didn't talk about Nintendo Wi Fi (NDAs). Full details haven't been revealed yet
4.Revolution works by placing a small sensor bar either above or below any TV
5.You can stand at any angle and not lose any accuracy. You can even
take your controller to a friend's house and instantly start playing
without syncing up the controller
6."Perhaps most impressive is the fact that although splitscreen reduces the amount of onscreen space you are playing in, you don't haveto make smaller movements - you can gesture as wildly as you want, and it won't interfere with the other player's onscreen quadrants"

Quotes from Game Informer

1.The two triggers on the front of the analog unit activate ducking and
jumping. The analog stick controls movement, and the revmote controls aiming. No rails.
2.Level consisted of shooting ranges that popped out from behind cover: "Aiming with the controller is as simple as using a laser pointer. You point your hand at a target and hit the trigger on the underside of the controller to fire"
3."Unlike other FPS games, which tie the camera and aiming together, Red Steel's camera follows your aim with a slight delay. If, for example, you point to the edge of the screen, the camera will turn to re-center on your view after a second. With the sensitivity of the controller, a standard FPS control would move too much, potentially making the player feel ill."
4."Thanks to the improved reaction that the controller offers, the team can create gunfight scenerios that would be extraordinarily diffilcult with a standard controller"
5.Most console FPS games limit their enemies to horizontal planes to prevent player frustration, but targets on a verticle plane are just as easy to hit with the Revolution controller
6.You can aim at a target as quickly as you can move your hand
7.In the demo targets popped up on rooftops and in second story windows, as well as behind cover points on the ground, and all were equally easy to hit."
8.While you can quickly shoot enemies anywhere on screen, Red Steel never feels in a light-gun game - this is a true FPS, one that feels like it has drawn from the best of both the PC and console shooter
worlds

Got it from Gamespot forums, the game sounds great.

It is being produced by Ubisoft Paris which is the same Ubisoft developer that made Ghost Recon, Splinter Cell, and Prince of Persia.

Splinter Cell was developed in Ubi Montreal/Shanghai. Same for POP
Ubi Paris did the single player of GRAW 360[Shanghei did the craptastic xbox and PS2 ones] which was fantastic, so I have no doubt that this will be an excellent game.

Awesome?

Yes. Yes it is.

This game sounds like its going to be awesome. I want a Rev. NOW!

I've not see the Scan,, The Graphix is ****ing awesome!!!

It sounds awesome, and far more involved than your average shooter. I also can't think of a better control method for a fps.

It look really really good considering how underpowered everyone seems to think the Rev is! I just hope its not all action--that might be fun for a while, but I would also like to see some other crafty uses for the remote in situations outside of combat....
