I'll just buy their stuff on consoles.

It's not like current-day Ubi games were made for PCs, anyway. They're all crappy ports.

Seems the DRM didn't last that long. It's already been cracked on Silent Hunter 5. Another protection scheme that you completely avoid if you don't pay for it. I wonder how much money Ubi have thrown at this so far.

Purchasers: "Dear Ubisoft Technical Support: I have a problem with my piracy protection. I put it on and now I can't take it off; perhaps the latching mechanism was not tested for efficacy. Also, it obstructs my breathing in all comfortable or reasonable standing and sitting positions."

Downloaders: "This game didn't even deserve to have copy protection."

Investors: "It seems our games are being pirated even more than before. We need more protection."

Ubisoft: "Our DRM is now extra bulletproof!"

Hopefully this will serve as an example to other companies, that sticking two fingers up at legit consumers will not stop dedicated crackers from jamming their thumb in your anus.
 
All I've got to say is, it must feel good to be a dedicated pirate.

That statement is misleading. The way it's worded appears that Silent Hunter is incomplete as well, when in fact it's only the ruskie version of AC2 flying around that's incomplete due to it being cracked by a bunch of amateurs. Silent Hunter apparently works fine and I'm sure as soon as the English version of AC2 floats out then a real group will decimate this as well.

****ing Ubisoft, admit you've ****ed up again.

Protip: Generally anything more than a disc check [preferably disabled in a patch within a couple of years so that customers may enjoy the game without the hassle] and you are doing a disservice to yourselves.

Well it is. A significant one, in fact. However, it's leagues better than this hair-brain scheme.

I don't expect them to abandon a simple disc to disc copy protection, though others have tried it recently and did just as well. (no DRM whatsoever)

The financial success of a game doesn't depend on the copy protection, that's for damn sure.

Case in point: Borderlands. No DRM whatsoever, and it's had a powerful release and 3 successful DLC packs, along with a confirmed sequel in the future.
 
Perhaps these good examples such as Borderlands should be brought to the attention of ****ing idiots like ubi.

If their plan with this DRM was to sell more games, I don't think they'll succeed. Personally, I will be avoiding any game with UBI on the box, from now on.
 
I have been playing Silent Hunter 5 for the last couple of days and I can't say it has really bothered me so far. No disconnects or other shenanigans anyway.

Also, apparently it isn't as cracked as it appeared to be. Check this piece on RPS.
 
..They are withholding game files by having you download them as you go?
Once they get all the mission files, it'll be fully cracked. It shouldn't be terribly hard.

Software fascism at it's best. Still not buying it. I'm not going to pay money for a disc/download of textures.

Won't be the same for me. I've got wireless, and a problem with my internet more often than not. Like right now for example, it took almost one minute to load this page and one minute to make the post stick.

When my stupid internet connection is working, I need it for much of the work I do for a living. I also spend a lot of time reading and discussing things online, as you can tell by my post count.

When the internet isn't working, it's my excuse to play vidya gaems. That wouldn't be possible with UBI games.

What's next, are you going to need to connect online to watch a DVD or listen to some music? How about your insurance agent following you at all times to make sure your friend doesn't drive your car.

UBIsoft can get **** off and die. I've been playing UBI games since I was a kid, and never have I been like, "This is a great game." No big loss.

As a matter of fact, I will never buy another UBI game.
 
I sent them an email saying that if they get rid of the DRM, they would basically make a free $100 from me when I purchase AC2 and Splinter Cell. But we all know that's not going to happen.
 
No need to worry about this crap: don't buy Ubi games and you'll be fine. Maybe one day they will get rid of the DRM. Otherwise, bye bye Ubi, there are a lot of good PC games out there.

Don't say 'Shame on you' then. Don't think you are taking the moral high road by supporting some Don Quixotian boycott. Keep in mind that this draconian DRM scheme is the result of people downloading games and not paying for them, not because Ubisoft are an evil company. I'd rather support (PC) gaming as a whole by buying games, than oppose DRM by not buying any. This is my choice. There is no need for you to morally judge that.

Another reason for me to support Ubi Romania in particular is that it is the only game studio out there still making semi-decent sub sims. This genre is about as ubiquitous (pun intended) as the space sim, so I am doing my little part in keeping the genre alive.
