Bash.
I'm from the UK, and thought this might interest a few people.
(Taken from the Private Eye)

£50m: Aid money the British government pledged to Indian Ocean countries including Indonesia.

£650m: Export credit guarantee money British government has paid out in the last six years for failed arms deals in Indonesia.

£520m: Amount Britain put aside in last month's pre-budget report for military activities in Iraq.

Shows where government's hearts are at. Sadly this is reflected across many more, not just the UK. This is why I dislike governments.

Yes, to hell with governments! Anarchy or death! That way everyone can do whatever they want with no consequences!

(Sorry, just got out of a thread on another site about Anarchy...meh)

The sad fact is because we're human, we need governments. Without em total chaos ensues.

And putting such a vast amount of money in the pot labelled "To kill other people" doesn't bother you. I believe we need government, but nicer ones... please

Face it, you can't get everything you want out of any government no matter how good your reasoning is.

burner69. Do you value everything you possess?

Let me guess, if we didn't do arms deals with Indonesia terrorists would flood in and I'd be killed, lose my home etc etc.

I believe Canada is a good example of how keeping your nose out of things and not spending so much on war prevents attacks from other countries.

that's very easy to believe when you fail to consider that canada has the miniscule amount of armed forces it does, only because of its shared border with the USA. the USA provides Canada with its security, and security for its interests as Our interests are Canada's interests.

I think that the best way to stay out of things is to distance yourself from America. America seems to offend a lot of nations in one way or another. This is not a popular view however. I have nothing against America but I do worry about condemnation by association. If things need to change in a global aspect then this shoud be done or not done by the UN. If Iraq did have WOMD then if I was Saddam then I would have fired all that shit off at America and Britain because I would be Saddam! The point being would France or that help us would they fawk - it would be left to those who started it to finish it. I do not believe that France were right to steer clear but then I don't believe the occupying nations were right either. This could have gone nastily wrong and we could have had differing factions all over the shop.

Luckily, it turned out nice again, phew. Other than those who have lost their lives and loved ones as a result, nevermind financial loss over sticking our beaks in - what about the worth our governments attach to the lives of the people.

I understand about the possible threat but surely these days (although there may be less than previously) there are many powerful weapons - I think if there was a threat there would not be much of this planet left anyway as paranoia and bloody-mindedness would take over.

Maybe we should sort out our own countries before we start looking at problems elsewhere. I think that most of the problems are probably caused by us to start off with - the £650M for failed arms deals, nuff said.

Failed arms deals? What we gave them the weapons, then was like that will be £££ please? "Cheques in the post.." Yeah right.

Mugs.

Surely the first time they got skanked they would ask for the cash up front.

True. Reminds me of getting blims when I was a kid - "I've just gotta go round the corner..." - yeh right - whatever. Like you said once should be (more than) enough of a learning curve.
