Unable To Get HL2DM To Work On Lan???

First off, have a legitimate Steam registered copy of HL2 which included DM.
Have been trying to resolve an issue playing HL2DM on Lan where 2 computers are having a problem seeing each other even though both computers can see each other on the network and I can transfer files back and forth through the network without any problems; have tried searching for any and all info pertaining to this issue on several websites and also both computers can play HL2, DM, and LC without any problems and have tried lowering and even turning off firewall and other security settings to no avail and both networks have the same local area connection properties as well.
In the very beginning when I first tried playing HL2DM on Lan the one computer was able to see the server computer's game only briefly and then the in game connection disappeared strangely.

Just had to keep adjusting the network and firewall until they could see each other really, generally I never have this problem with Lan games and believe that the way Steam operates may have had something to do with it. HL2DM works fine now, but what really was strange is the fact that the computers initially saw each other in the Lan and then nothing, as I hadnt adjusted it yet.
