Under/Over-rated Films

Overrated - Probably any movie that grosses over $150 million.

In what sort of timeframe? Movies gross more and more money all the time. :p

Underrated - The Cable Guy. Carrey's best movie imo :)

Overrated - Clockwork Orange. Didn't do much for me, dealt with a interesting issue in a clumsey way. Violence for violences sake.

hmmm clockwork orange is a masterpiece

Overrated:

M. Night Shyamalon(whatever the name) - I have a feeling "The Village" is going to have a secret surprise ending that will make you think.

LOTR trilogy
NEW star wars trilogy
matrix trilogy

The link between all of these movies(the trilogies) is severely overused special effects for the sake of looking cool rather than keeping a movies dignity and extremely cheesy dialogue, giant battle scenes are a must too. Ones where you manage to slide around on an elephant type thing while looking very much computer generated are accepted also. Also this is just something i was wondering when i saw return of the king in theaters, did the rest of your audience start crying at the end followed by erupting applause as the credits rolled, i was baffled.

Underrated:

2001: A space odyseey - not really underrated, just not seen by enough people

Blade Runner - Same thing as above, greatest sci-fi movie of all time.

The Fifth Element - This movie is just weird and I love it for some reason, most people that hate it take it way too seriously.

I just don't see how you can like movies and not like LOTR. They're just well made movies. The effects supplement the story rather than becoming the focus. Good acting, good direction, good battles. Those movies are just pure, pure class. Someone in this thread said that Final Fantasy was a better movie than LOTR...the horror...the horror.

And to the person who called Saving Private Ryan cheesy...well...I just don't know what to say to that. Skip forward to the scene where the medic dies screaming, the other guys totally unable to do anything for him (aside from giving him morphine) and tell me that is cheesy. It's f*cking horrifying is what it is. The Thin Red Line was certainly a good movie, it was just a totally different movie with different goals.

But it didnt get the recognition it deserved IMO, you'd be surprised how many people havnt seen it.

Since when was Blade Runner under-rated? Sure it wasn't popular when released, but I figured it to be one of the most well loved science fiction films of all time by now.

Maybe you are taking LOTR and The Matrix way too seriously also.

No, the films take themselves way too seriously, that's exactly why they are so bad. Just watch the last 30 minutes or so of return of the king to understand. I can't help but laugh at the overly cheesy slow motion scenes with frodo and the likes. As for the Matrix dont tell me that the fans of those movies dont take it seriously. They will be the first ones to tell you that the movie is too hard for someone like you to understand.

That's why i said it wasn't really underrated it just hasnt been seen by enough people. Maybe it's just me though but no one I know has even heard of this movie let alone seen it, I suppose it would bore the ADD crowd.

Blade Runner would bore the ADD crowd? I think they would be pleased by it, it is an action movie.
