Anybody here play this game? I got it just the other day and have yet to be able to play it. Before the game even fully loads up I get a General Protection Fault error and then it returns me to the desktop. I've got the latest patches and such but no luck. I've searched U2 forums but have yet to find a fix. Just thought I'd search the masses here for a possible cure.

Thanks in advance...

I think that I am the only one that likes the game. I didnt delude myself into thinking it would be the best game ever made. It is fun and the graphics are good.

Yeah, I played the demo some time back and enjoyed it enough. Then I ran across it on ebay for about $5 so I picked it up, just can't get the damn thing to start. I've read it has something to do with EAX and driver conflicts. Dunno, but its frustrating.

Yeah...I set my standards pretty low for that game, and when I got it, I was surprised. Though I was disappointed that when the chicks titls here head back, here hair goes through her. Almost as it were stabbing her...o_O.

Anyway, I thought it was pretty cool. Even though it was below par with many other current titles.

Couldn't stand Unreal 2 ......... maybe my expectations were high (loved the original)

Got bored, uninstalled ............

Did you patch it? The retail version had some really large bugs that made it unplayable for most.

Anyhow, the game is actually quite good. It isnt amazing as a whole, but some of the levels are awesome, and very entertaining to play. Its far to short though.

Warbie, I can't comment on the gameplay just yet as I said I've not been able to play it. From the demo I played, the graphics looked good and that's mostly what spurred me to pick it up. That and the unreal name led me to believe it should be a decent shooter.

I started this thread mainly to get some help getting the game to run, not for uninspired opinions of gameplay. Please only post if you have a suggestion or tip to help me get this POS up and running.

Dawdler, yeah, I've patched it and tried a few other things that were recommended to play it with no luck. I've never bought a game brand new and then not been able to play it whatsoever. It's all very frustrating.

Specs might help:

XP Home
P4 1.4
80G WD HD
768MB RAM
GF Ti4200 128 w/ 8x AGP
Turtle Beach Santa Cruz

not gonna release any info because of NDA, but i'm a beta tester for U2 XMP. expanded multiplayer. it RULES, it is so friggin addicting, you guys will love it

i really like it and it was worth it's money. but seriously, it was wayyy to short and the atmosphere of unreal1 is (better than in 2) the best (besides hl) i've ever experienced in a game. i still luv the first one :D

I thought U2 was good apart from the storyline and acting.

Easy tiger ........ just responding with my opinions of the game (as everyone else has done)

True, true...sorry man. It's just that this thread has been hijacked...lol. Opinions of the game are fine, it's just not really going to help me get the game running. Anyhow, didn't mean to flame...

if you don't live in America then you need to get a localized patch.

I do live in the USA, and have patched it with the last one, 1.0.4.3...or something like that. I've also tried the EAX patch but neither one seems to make a difference. I've also read that it could be related to DX9 and configurations with EAX, but i've not had any luck so far. Thanks though...

you could try disableing your sound card to see if it is EAX.

Hey, it's worth a try... what's the best/easiest way of doing this?

There should be a nosound command for the game. Dont know though... I had the EAX problem when I first tried it, but the patch fixed that for me.

See, as soon as the disc spins up and the game tries to load, is when I get the error. I never even get in-game, be it a splash screen, menu screen or whatever. How about if I go into dxdiag and turn the sound tab all the way down or disable there. Do you think that would do it?

Also, what version of DirectX are you running?

try running it striat from the .exe then go to mycomputer>hardware manager and find your sound card. When you open up it's properties there should be a drop down box that says disable hardware profile or something like that.

I'm useing DX9b but I have ran U2 on DX9.

Liked it. Loved it. Beat it. But no replay value at all.

Graphics were great, even on my Ti4200 :D. It was fun. However, like I said, no replay value at all.

Honestly, I got a lil' bit bored with the weapons about half way through the game. But hey, most games suffer from that same problem, and we all learn to live with it. Oh, well.

I'd give it about an 8.5 / 10. I really did enjoy it for the most part :D.

sweet merciful CRAP!
I know the SP was kinna short, and not HL good... but PLEASE keep the game!

They are releaseing XMP soon for UnrealII which is a Team Fortress style Teamplay mod with all the neat guns and powered armor from Unreal II!

I got bored of it and even quickloading times were really slow. That really bugged me.

Yeah... the loading screens bugged me quite a bit actually, too.

I kinda' forgot aobut that part, heh.
