Hmmm, tbh. I don't even really need to say much. The pictures speak for them self:

What do you think? I think its amazing how the engine can handle massive outdoor areas as well. It seems to be an allround amazing engine.

Ops spelling mistake in topic ENVIRONMENT*

I was so excited you see :D

yeah, but think of the specs needed to punch that level of detail out...

In 2005 and 2006 I don't think we ened to worry about it. Also remember the gf6800 did the first presentation of U-3, That seemed to be able to handle it.

Holy bajeesus! that's MUCH better then anything i've seen before! Photo realism! here we come!

Nice. I hope a good game's made with it.

The Unreal Engine will be sold to other games developers. Just like all the Unreal Engines. So I can proberly garatee there will be one good game :D

Also look at UT2K4, you wouldn't believe that splinter cell uses its engine. If you put U3 in the place of U2X and did something like splinter cell I can't imagen the graphical upgrade. Can you even get any better ? LOL!

Niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice

but he kinda looks out of place in a happy environment

Well....only until someone makes something else, then us poor people in 2004 will be behind...of course, us great people in 2007 will be congratulating each other on our amazing technology.

That's f*cking awesome. I love the environment, it looks so real, really makes todays stuff look inferior. :)

In addition to game developers, Epic hopes to license the engine to movie studios (like Pixar) for use in feature length films.

HOLY MOTHER OF CAPSLOCK!!!!!!11!!1!

The final generation of 3d graphics (photo-realistic) probably won't be more than a few years away after this game is released. I can't wait for that time too since it would probably mean that for awhile there wouldn't even be a point in upgrading graphics cards since you wouldn't be able to tell a difference.

The thing is, the closer we get to perfection, the harder it will be to reach it.

Looks awsome yes, unfortionatly these "screenshots" are scans fromt the dutch magazine "PC-Zone", there fore copyrighted, and illegal.

don't think we'll need to worry about it? You're talking about the top of the tree of AGP cards, with things moving towards PCI express, AGP will go the way of the dodo much like PCI cards will do. That means getting a new PC for some (read me) I don't have the kinda money to splash out every year for a new card, I got a 9600 XT a few months back, wasn't the best card, aint the worst but its all I can afford. Looking at benchmarks I'm expecting something like 30-40 fps in D3 tops. But at least the 9600 XT is a Dx9 card, as U3 is a Dx9 only.

2006, 2007 mayhaps, but 2005? I kinda expect to still be running my rig with a few upgrades (faster cpu, more ram, bigger HD, possibly a new Graphics card... But I was having no problems with games on my last card for 3 years, and that was a Ge3)

Oh, and the tech demo did suffer some slowdown, and that was the best card at the time overclocked.

But I am happy they're pushing the boundry out faster and faster. Just can't afford to keep up.

those are gc quality, and u 96xt isnt goin to run d3, i have a 9800pro, and cant run it

dutch magazine? PCZone is a UK mag. i think europeans get PCZone Beneleux or something. but yeah you're right, these screens and lots more have been in PCZ for a couple of weeks now, dunno if they're property of PCZ though :/

Actually the card that was running the Unreal 3 engine demo was dual 6800 Ultras in a SLI configuration - so it was running with 512mb of DDR3 RAM

Either something is very wrong with your system or thats a total lie. :D

this post show your stupid so i'll spell out what i think of your post to help you...better process the information thru your brain...B-U-L-L-S-H-!-T.

i have a 2.4GHz 1024MB RAM with a 9600XT as stock speeds and i can run Doom 3 at 1024x768 at medium detail with all features on. i've seen it ram on much lower spec'd system's.

Same here 9600xt, runs Doom3 just fine with all the features.

Yeah, on 20 fps in a scene with only one or a few monsters and no further environment. Good luck with that 6800  ;)

Amazing screenshots.

On the doom 3 topic.

I have a pent 2.53
512 mb sd ddr
gf4 Ti 4600 128

and im running doom 3 on High settings everthing on.

NO LAG!

amd 2600+, 512mb, 9800 pro, overclocked slightly.

i run it on high detail, 1600x1200 with 2x AA 4x AF and its just ont he borderline of playable, but i want it to look good, so ill stick with this. it doesnt slow down very often anyway.

I wonder if Unreal 3 still uses lightmaps for outdoor environments, it does look like it.

Well don't forget the tech demo probally isn't fully optimised yet. However I think Unreal 3 will push the technology at time to the boundry. What everyone has now aint going to cut it.

And cool beans about D3, I was an ickle worried my comp would just lock up. Might need a better CPU though, 2000+ :(

Anyone else think that the U3 engine makes the chcracters look Action-figurish. it looks like a bunch of models.

Of course it looks absolutely great, but still.

No, it doesn't. If you ever watched the videos a few months back then you will see them in all their glory.

Amazing tech, Epic. But DON'T make UT2006/2007 on it - that would just plain SUCK!

Make a new IP, impress people - show that you are innovative with new tech.

No, I don't need another Unreal tornament - unreal 3 or anything like that. The problem with engine making individual devs like id, epic and now valve is they make a gazillion sequels to exsisting franchises. I know that means they would be cash cows (hl2 and d3 are cash cows), but they really should focus on making a new IP, to show they are unique in other ways than just making brand spanking new engines.

I want to see them create a human character with the U3 engine. That will show the true power of the engine.

I'd say the same thing if Unreal Tournament wasn't so damn fun all the time. :D

Shuzer said:

It looks all fancy right now - but when there will be good enough hardware by that time - you'll see valve and id software will upgrade their engines to make graphics like that possible on their own engines. Epic is just showing us things that is not possible anytime soon - and valve and id will soon catch up by 2006.
