Unsettling and Meaningful

I like hearing about peoples dreams. Of course I can rarely remember my dreams, but scary/funny ones are really unforgetful sometimes.
Being shot/stabbed/poked with needles in dreams does feel really weird (I once got dream-shot when I was about 6, and it feels really warm and horrible).

Oh and thanks for the lucid-dream trick short-recoil. I'll try that :)

Or tending your little allotment garden with a trowel - then waking up and finding you don't have an allotment garden....or a trowel ;(

oh by the way this thread is now a copyrighted registered trademark of Hetairia and all content is also property of Hetairia.

to be honest I dreamed one of my good friends died in a car accident last night, it was scary as hell. dreams about family dying are the worst by far though.

I won't lie veg, I only read like 1/10 of that post.

I had a random dream last night, it made me feel really bad.

The first one, seemed kind of like I was watching one of those adverts for child safety arounds rivers and ponds etc, it had the same awful piano music, and bad camera angles.

There was this little girl, about 3 or 4 who was standing near a drainage ditch with high sides made of concrete, there also was a guy fly fishing nearby.

The girl slipped and fell into the ditch and she was gasping for air, looking straight upwards, the guy who was fly fishing was in slow motion now, then suddenly, the hook flew into the drainage ditch, down, straight into the girls mouth as she struggled for air and caught in her throat, the guy with the fishing rod, was trying to pull her unwittingly as if he had caught a fish, he lifted the girl from the water then this woman appeared and said in an english upper class accent "You'll have to strangle her." then the guy that was fishing said, "No I'll just break her neck."

I woke up then, and felt really sad.

I had a dream that I had cancer. I got to make a wish through the Make a Wish Foundation. My wish was to see Vegeta-numbers die in a bathtub full of scorpions. My life has been happy ever since that dream.

I had a dream that was all in pixel art, and vegeta had drawn it. It was the most beautiful dream in my life.

I got interested in dreams, especially lucid dreaming and OBE's, about half a year ago, and even though I've since long stopped caring about it they regularly spontaneously happen about once every week.

Lucid dreams are nice, but they are usually cloudy, blurry and short. I'm not going to go further into OBE's since I'll probably be labeled as a nutjob, but they are much more vivid and you can see and experience some pretty amazing stuff.

I think dreams are interesting since they can reveal alot about what's going on in your psyche, your fears or attachments and even help you feel better by solving or dealing with something you've seen the traits of in dreams.

I had dreams about my hardcore diablo 2 character dieing many a time but then I realised it was a dream...very scarey though :(.

In other dreams I can remember when hetairia ruled the world.

Holy shit...I had a dream about a sorceress I really had a strong emotional bond to (in the dream, I was seriously connected, weird), and she was in the lut gholeign (sp) palace when a marauder attacked her and she died. I seriously woke up heart broken.

Damn right, there is nothing "scareyer" then the skull and crossbones and the loud noise of someone declaring hostility on you, a very tense game indeed...

Hmmm. Short Recoil, lucid dreams sound so interesting. I wish I could make myself have them. It's probally the closest thing we'll get to Virtual Reality in our lifetime... but what's it like to feel pain in a dream? is it just a vague reminder of pain, like the reminder you get when thinking about eating? Or do you actually... feel it?

And Vegetta, that just seems like any old random dream to me. I'm sure the only reason it felt special to you at all, was because you were the one experiencing it; and your experiences went far beyond the literal meaning, deep down into your mind, and the raw emotions the dream was based upon. In other words, don't expect other forumites to understand.

I'm obliged to make some comment on Vegetta-numbers, followed by the hetairian battle cry, but I'm not in the mood.

I had a lucid dream once, and yeah it turned out naughty... c'mon... i was in control. :E

I dreamed my next moves in Alpha Centuari back when i used to play that... i played that game, Allot.

Here are some tips that helped me start having ones.
Usually it's your mind that affects all this, and dreams are very subjective. When you dream you are 100% into the dream and thus don't know that it's a dream.
But if you become slightly objective you will understand yourself and the dream, and realise that it actually is a dream.

So, a good habit is to focus on what you are doing in the moment. I.e, when you eat, focus on eating, when you walk, focus on walking and don't let your mind drift off onto other stuff. Try not to let your attention escape your breathing space, so to speak. Try to be as aware as possible, feel your entire body and the surroundings, the smell, the sense etc but don't associate anything with it because that'll make your mind drift off.

You must practise this very hard though, because it's not easy. The more effort you put in the faster you'll get results, and the results will be much better.

Eventually you will have a much easier time focusing on what you are doing, and your dreams will become more vivid and you'll sense, smell and hear in them.

It's a great sign that you're on the right way if the above starts happening.
Just remember to be consistent and practise hard.

Also, try to memorise your dreams. As soon as you wake up, lie completely still, don't move a single muscle and try to remember what you dreamed. This is a great practise, because if you put effort in it you'll start remembering your dreams throughout the entire night and be better at remembering things in daily life.

You can use a dream journal and write things you remember down.

When you go to sleep, you may use the time to focus on something. This will speed up the process it takes to fall asleep if you are in a "hurry", and will also help becoming lucid in the following dreams.

Focus on any single object, just keep it simple and as singular as possible.
One thing that has helped me alot is to focus on the heartbeats. Imagine the heart beating as you do it, and feel the heartbeats spread throughout the body.

Eventually, if you fall asleep focusing on this you will most probably have a lucid dream, it happens like 90% of the time if you really put effort in it.

It may take alot of time to get some results though, mostly relating to your efforts in changing your mental attitude throughout the day. It took a month or so before I started having definite lucid dreams this way.

but what's it like to feel pain in a dream? is it just a vague reminder of pain, like the reminder you get when thinking about eating? Or do you actually... feel it?

Usually it's not direct pain. It feels pulsating or vibrating, or like a pushing feeling in the part you have pain in. It feels very unpleasant though, especially in the stomach, but I think it's more related to being a nightmare and you expecting it to hurt alot. If you don't think of it hurting in the dream it will only feel very slight and not unpleasant.
Like, let's say you fight hand to hand with someone in a dream, when you focus on punching him and not caring about his punches, his punches only feel damp and subtle and not painful.

However, if you're in a torture scene in a nightmare with people punching and clawing you, it will be unbearably painful.

I read that whole post, Vegeta. I believe that dream was supposed to 'teach' you that you can't take your mother for granted, or that your mother is the one who holds the family together, and that dream told you (In really wierd ways) the aftermath of her death.

Oh, and CrazyHarij, i'll try that as it sounds pretty interesting.

harij that seems like lots of effort isn't there a "quick fix" ;)

If you want lucid dreams there is an easier way to increase dream volume.
Just say you normally get up at 7, set the alarm for 6 wake up, set the alarm for 7 and go back to sleep.
I only ever get dreams when i "go back to sleep", cos its a lighter sleep or whatever.

Pff I always do that though :(. It's my way of having a lie in

Crazyharij, that sounds rather scary...

How real does it actually feel? I mean, when you described a fist fight, you said that the opponent's punches would feel damper if you concentrated on attacking him; but to me, it seems incredible that you are even able to imagine the punches when you are concentrating on throwing your own.

What I mean is, from your description, it seems more like the dream is in control of you- your mind has created a whole world that you are trapped in. When I dream, I only see a vague picture of what I am focusing on... but these lucid dreams, if you describe them correctly, appear to create a whole enviroment. It just seems so crazy. I'm intrigued...

I had a dream that I became a Moderator at www.halflife2.net It was the best dream of my life. I was happier than ever before. I was also the best moderator ever. I won prizes. Lots of them. It was amazing.

HINT HINT

*Caution* The above post may be a tremendous lie.

Also, only cool kids pee their pants. When they... sleep. Yeah.

Hell yeah. And if we were in the Matrix, we'd be peeing our pants everytime we dreamt of peeing!

It's never like real life, you can always tell the difference.
The only way i can describe it is like when you are really drunk or have gone without sleep for ages.
And you seem "not quite there"
If i had lucid dreams where it was exactly realistic i would shit myself no doubt.
Its like a normal dream, just you know your in it and it's more focused.
More senses e.t.c

I've only read all of page 1 so I I don't know what's been said since then but that's quite a weird dream, I hardly ever remember dreams, unless it actually made sense, like that sorta did, or something later that day reminds me of it.

Wow, thanks Danimal. Best reply yet. I really appriciate it, that makes a lot of sense. Thankyou.

Short Recoil, this has been annoying me, heh, you don't put dots in "etc"
Etc is short for "et cetera" which is latin.

You only put a period at the end :)

Why is it the dream threads that are always so interesting... I will try to do what you said, Harij.

I've only had one dream that I controlled, and then I ended it in about 2 seconds. I had been wondering whether pinching yourself in dreams really works, so one night I started dreaming but I was just standing around and all I could focus on was my arm and my other hand. Then I realized it was a dream and consciously got myself to pinch myself within the dream. Then I woke up, thought, "Hey, it really does work!" and fell asleep again. When I woke up in the morning, my arm was hurting where I had pinched it :O.

Other than that, I've had only one happy dream, and that was probably because it was really fake. Basically, the scenery around me was like an animated movie, all drawn and painted in, and I was running in a forest alongside a pretty sparkling blue river trying to catch fish with my bare hands as they jumped out of the water. It was peaceful. I want that dream again ;(.

On rare occasions, I dream of my pet tropical fishies. Sometimes I am a fish; sometimes I switch between the point of view of a fish, and an outside observer....

In all my other dreams, either monsters are trying to kill me and are chasing me around weird places (department stores... dimly lit museums with walls covered in lush velvet....), or murderers are invading my home and my family has locked the doors and we're guarding the windows. A few times, I've dreamt that someone is trying to take something away from me, and I dream-punch them really hard, but in reality I punch my bed really hard and wake up.
