"The Pentagon on Friday released new details about mishandling of the Quran at the Guantanamo Bay prison for terror suspects, confirming that a soldier deliberately kicked the Muslim holy book and that an interrogator stepped on a Quran and was later fired for "a pattern of unacceptable behavior." In other confirmed incidents, water balloons thrown by prison guards caused an unspecified number of Qurans to get wet; a guard's urine came through an air vent and splashed on a detainee and his Quran; and in a confirmed but ambiguous case a two-word obscenity was written in English on the inside cover of a Quran"

source

"gulag" seems appropriate

"A guards urine came through an air vent and splashed on a detainee and his Quran"

Oh, come on. How gullible do you think we are?

Watch out for those urine-spewing air vents!

I'm not surprised, though. Not in the slightest.

OMGZ lies!!!!

/me pretends to be right of center and puts fingers in ears and repeatedly screams "git r done, git r done, git r done, git r done, say it aint so rupert murdoch, say it aint sooooo.

Nevermind. I'm not going to get involved.

out of curiosity may I ask why? feath as well, plz :)

#1 Its a lie...urine coming out of vents stern? Are you guys running out of excuses to hate the war now?

#2 If it were true, I dont give a damn that some poor terrorist that kills his own innocent people gets his Quran violated...while mean...its war. Every country has done and still does much worse than these silly stories we hear about that happen in the prisons. So be glad that the US is moral enough to not be like the rest of em. While I still think its wrong...it cannot be prevented...there are some ****ed up people in the US...and some of them are in the army.

most havent been charged with anything let alone terrorism.

Oh so we are keeping them there for no reason...I understand. You know if I knew how to post pictures here I would post the stuff my family friends son sent to me. Pictures of homes with garages filled with chemical gas, explosives, guns, american alarm clocks filled with mustard gas. And they say there are no WMD's, I guess these tons of homes stocked with this shit dont count.

I still dont trust the source...the media in the US is pathetic right now. After the News Weekly thing...and after all their Israel coverage I have come to not trust anything I see on the internet or in the news. Only from friends I know in the army.

Freedom of speech. If I can piss on a bible in my front yard I dont see why they cant do something along these lines. The American Constitution takes precedence over international law. I find it distasteful, but nothing along the lines that stern is making it out to be.

I think you need a little refreshment course on something as outrageous as you are claiming:

Graphic Picture

how am I comparing it to the death camps of ww2?

You said in your first post (and i qoute) "I think the term 'gulag' is appropriate."

Don't play the fool stern. Anyho, these incidents were distasteful and there are some screwed up people in the army, but comparing them to Nazis is really inapropriate. Especially for you, a man of "moral values."

If you had one iota of common sense then you would realize that piss CANNOT come from a prison vent. Have you seen pictures of those vents? They are purposefully designed so that a human cannot get up in there. I supposed the US soldier just stoop by the maintenence panel and went in there right?

He could of always of peed into a glass and then throw the peer through the vent. And the Gulag wasn't nazi death camps, it's the Soviet slave camps.

gu-lag

place or situation of great suffering and hardship, likened to the atmosphere in a prison system or a forced labor camp.

gulag

n : a Russian prison camp for political prisoners

Man, water balloons were thrown? That's where I draw the line. Release the prisoners!!!!

In the incident involving urine, which took place this past March, Southern Command said a guard left his post and urinated near an air vent and "the wind blew his urine through the vent" and into a cell block.

It said a detainee told guards the urine "splashed on him and his Koran." The statement said the detainee was given a new prison uniform and Koran, and that the guard was reprimanded and given duty in which he had no contact with prisoners.

Ignorance and intent are two different things.

Lol yah...stern cmon man...do you realize what you are saying? Why do you always bash the US...why not bash the French and their work policy? Why not bash Afghanistan for torturing woman? Why dont you bash on Stalin killing millions of his own people and torturing them? What the **** is wrong with you Stern I DO NOT GET YOU AT ALL! Some guy throws a ****ing water balloon on a prisoner and you get mad...but when people are being tortured in Iraq because people like you took the soldiers out...you will complain again.

Why dont you get angry at the Palistinian terrorists for bombing pizzerias with children in them? Why are you making a big deal out of nothing just so that people get mad at America...calling us the "agressor" or "imperialists" or "evil" when we are doing a good thing and are doing it much better than any other ****er of a country would. Im sure Germany or France would treat their prisoners of war that killed their soldier friends much better than the US does.

Not to bash Germany or France...they just dont have the same policies as we do. If they do Im sure there are other countries that are worse than the US.

Plus dont you think that water baloons or urine on a terrorists Quran is a small price to pay for saving millions of people from a mass murderer and giving them their natural human rights-not democracy-but the right to live. So stern go **** yourself and stop making us look like Nazis because the media is doing a super job of making the good guys look like complete ****tards.

They make people support the "Palistinians" instead of Israel (stupidest ****ing thing ever). They make their own country look bad with false information or over exagerated facts that in reality would happen with anyone else.

Its pathetic.

sorry off topic but go to art forum and check out my painting

no not really ...just confirming what was in question a few weeks backs

does it get yours? it should

No. Why should it, praytell?

You are the one who started this thread expressing your moral outrage at the horrible abuses being perpetrated on Gitmo detainees, with regard to Koran abuses. Just wondering if that same outrage extends to Christian paraphernalia and symbols. Guess not.

I don't mind friendly debates. Actually, I quite enjoy them, but the politics forum creates too much bad blood in a place that should be generally light-hearted and fun to visit. I come hear to talk to people with similar tastes about similar things. I don't mind an occasional argument, but all the fighting and the brutality of it, has really irked me. I'm afraid there are people I probably would have gotten along with very well had it not been for the fact that my general impression of them was created by the posts in this forum which, quite frankly, paint a picture that has all of us looking a little ugly at times. I've noticed recently that certain people who I thought must be total assholes are actually pretty nice, and fun to talk with. I then went back, looked around and found that some of my own postings here, when read with a level head, made me look like some asshole fanatic, when in reality I like to think that I don't fall into either category. It sounds conceited, but I never thought I could come off that way. I did though. I would make posts in anger and come across looking stupid or short-sighted and even if I was right in my point the whole fury of the thing would come through in my words and I'd still look like a jerk. It's all too serious for me. I get enough shouting, screaming and fighting at home. I'd just like to have one place I can visit that doesn't have lines drawn in the sand for choosing teams so we know who to throw the stones at.

It is distastefull and freedom of speech... until one of those "terrorists" pisses on your bible, or burns your flag. Then they are ****ing animals. The double standard is obvious.

And do you know why "terrorist" has "" around it.. because if US law goes above international than these people who are being mistreated under US custody ARE INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY IN A COURT OF LAW.

But now you will just go 360 and claim you never said any of that so why do I even bother.

until one of those "terrorists" pisses on your bible, or burns your flag.

People burn flags all the time, they arent terrorists. I think you merely enjoy creating situations out of thin air. I think I made it quite clear in my first post that pissing on a bible would be the same thing. You wouldnt complain about that, but are outraged when it happens to a Quaran.

haha.. koran violated. how tragic! we've really been treating those prisoners horribly. we make them stand in the sun! throw water balloons at them! piss on the koran! god, when will the madness end! i'm tired of people blowing this out of proportion. basically stern, i give as much of a shit about this as you do about clinton getting his pole polished in office.

no I think your pulling something out of the air, I could really give two shits about the quaran... Its sad but true.. Its a book, full of paper, and printed ink that was made by mere mortals in this century, just like any other book... Its message may mean something, but the contents on which is printed is no different than that of harry potter. Same goes for any book, or any flag. I don't care, its stupid...

What I care about, is people who do treasure these things, and people who have not been found guilty of any crimes, being detained and having the things they hold dear to them destroyed. And the affect and rage that other people will get from hearing about this, and the poor people that they will take it out on with explosives, or knives or guns whatever. Thats what I care about. The people...

I agree, there's a certain example we must set. Right now the detention system we have set up is fundementally flawed (in my view) because, here in America, you are detained after-the-fact of having committed a crime. Here you are not. You have to juggle security with human rights, and the system as it is is a poor at best solution.

However, this doesnt necessarily go against that example. "Accidentally" urinating on a koran is certainly possible - stranger things have happened, I'm sure. If your concern, though, is the system as a whole, this shouldnt be the example you cling to.

Lest we forget, most of these people are imprisoned indefinitely without trial or access to legal council. In this so-called War on Terror, these people are not granted the basic rights of prisoners of war, or the rights of regular prisoners. It's not a mistake that the prison was built on Cuban soil.

To all those people saying we shouldn't make such a big deal out of this, I point out that most of these people shouldn't be imprisoned there in the first place. The US has behaved terribly with Guantanamo Bay.

perfectly fine for the saudi peoples to destroy a "filthy christian's" book, right?

I am not defending the "alleged" actions at this "Gitmo" (as people seem to call it), just the inconsistencies in what some people think is right and wrong..

This bring an interesting question.
If a were in a muslim country, and I would rob a bank, could I hold a Koran hostage.
I mean treaten to shoot the book if someone tried to arrest me.
