Although Half Life 2 has been ported to the Xbox, here's another take on Valve games connecting to the console world.[br]

In the video, "Bl4ckFr0g" uses a Wiimote, connected via Bluetooth and GlovePie to play Half Life: 2 on his laptop.

Something rather different, to view the video click here.

Hopefully Valve plans to Port HL2 to the Wii, then we can all wave our hands around madly while trying to take down the Combine.

Very cool. I've yet to play the wii, but the first thing I wanna do is play an FPS on it :D

I have a wii and this is emensly exiting. the again its not very surprising. i would like to see valve make a wii game (using the pointing capabilities of course) I want valve to make an online wii game. i bet left4dead would be great online on the wii.. or tf2. just not cs. im tired of cs.

Half-Life 2... running on a Mac... with the Wii remote.... talk about your COMBINE!
*insert rim shot here*

Although it looks a bit awkward, this could be the start of something...

Just saw this. Thats crazy.

From the looks of things it looks like a chore to even walk a few feet much less blast combine while at the same time dealing with environmental obstacles. Awesome job and clever use of the Wiimote but still quite useless. Impressive nonetheless.

The jump function's what got me, that's too cool.

But forget multiplayer--even the biggest noob would pummel you.

Pretty simple to do once you have the program that interprets the Wii information into mouse and keyboard functions.

Still cool what people are already doing with the WiiMote

Looks awkward and frustrating as hell to use.

Anybody besides me think the whole wii-mote thing is retarded?

How so?

The damn thing is really well made and could have tons of useful applications after it's been hacked to be used with a PC; espeically when they get the sensor bar working with a PC.

this is too cool. the response to the wiimote movements are kind of slow, but it doesnt seem to be a problem really. its not like anyone has done something like this before, so its all just about getting used to it. there are so many new possibilities now. nintendo is the shit. and so is the macbook pro running windows. and hl2.

never used it did ya?

its honestly awsome. If it gets hacked to the pc and mapped so you can use it in place of a keyboard, an application like Z-brush or Mudox would be killer awsome fun.

but ive yet to see a well done fps on wii, but not played any really.

if he also used the nunchuck and mapped it as well, that hl2 experience would get insane. I cab imagine doubling your capabilities since the nunchuck is motion sensitive as well.

he say anything about the nunchuck?

HL2 will look rubbish on a Wii. Graphically this machine just doesn't cut the mustard. Have you seen the Far Cry game for the Wii? Looks about as good as Goldeneye on the N64. I still think the Wii is the best of the new consoles in most respects though.

So far from what I've played an FPS on the Wii is still shit. It's the same as on any other console, only your arm gets tired. Horrible aiming.

Ok, it's cool they got the controller to work on a computer, but playing any game with it will put you at a disadvantage.

i played on a wii, its fun, not retarded. but the video looked fake, you could fake it sooo easy. hmmm.

I can see myself getting frustrated with having my hand in the air all the time. It would start to ache for anyone after a few hours.

Interesting, I wonder what else could come of this, perhaps the start of VR?

=D

Seeing as the Wii is basically a slightly overclocked Gamecube with a new controller, I doubt we will see HL2 ported to a Nintendo system any time in the near future.

It seems like everyone is just reading the thread title and replying.

This is a video of the Nintendo Wiimote being used to play Half-Life 2 ON A COMPUTER, not on a Wii console.

It's a bit logical that HL2 won't be ported over to the Wii, although it's not impossible.

For those saying it sucks, its because he uses the wiimote to simulate a mouse by tilting it. Thats not how it works on a Wii when playing FPS games, so you can't really use this video as a reference to playing shooters on a wii.

A common misconception is that people think the sensor bar sends information to the Wii. It doesn't. It's just there to emit light, which the remote needs to work. It is the remote that sends information to the console(or PC, if you can make it work). You can just as well use two candles, regular TV remotes or whatever instead of the sensorbar.

That doesn't have anything to do with this, as it has to do with the accelerometer stuff, but I just felt like telling anyone who wasn't aware.

It dosent emit light man, it emits IR signals. So in order for it to work at all without the sensor bar, you'd at least need 2 remote controlls facing the wii-mote constantly sending IR signals.
It wouldent work with candles...

My give a shit meter is at a minus reading :p

So you guys are aware, best I can tell (and I own a wii)... that program isn't using the pointer of the Wii-mote. It's using the tilt sensors only, to judge movement.. which isn't optimal.
The pointer works in the same way as an air-mouse for PC does, and it's awesome.. and it doesn't require you to always have your hand in the air, etc, etc.

aaaand it appears someone else already said that. Sorry!

yeah and the fact that you can hear someone laughing in the background makes the video a bit more suspicious. You could fake the video with a wireless keyboard and mouse easy.

on the other hand if they can get the wii-mote to act as a mouse/pointer and the analog part of the nun-chuck to handle movement this could be really nice.

IR is a type of light, its just not visible light

What they need to do is use the Wii connector joystick for the left hand (i think its called the nunchuck) and use it for movement. Then they can use the normal remote purely for aiming.

Yeah, IR stands for Infra Red, which is light, we just can't see it.

As for the other stuff, I said "remotes", as in more than one. There's a video at Gamevideos where they use two remote controls instead of the sensorbar. I'm not sure about the candles stuff, it sounds iffy, but apparently people have made it work.

Either way, I wouldn't use the wiimote(once I get a Wii) like in this video. I'd use it if I could use the pointing, but that wouldn't work on a lot of FPSs, other than Operation Flashpoint or that Tactical Delta SMOD, or whatever it was called.

Retarded? Having you ever tried playing the Wii yet? All of the skeptics I know who have played the Wii are very impressed with it.

And though this configuration is in its very early stages, people should be very excited about the possibilities for the future. Some people's disappointment in this makes me think whether they ever do any critical thinking at all.

You both need a lot of catching up to do.
People have found out to use the Wiimote with bluetooth(as it uses it). They have released DRIVERS for Mac, Linux, and Windows. Anyones who's pc can use bluetooth can run these drivers and use the wiimote. Furthormore there are commands that can have the Wiimote emulate keyboard buttons/mouse buttons/mouse cursor.

Anyone that has a wiimote and a comp that has bluetooth can do this by downloading some drivers. The drivers are released and the projects are for the most part open source. Use google to find them.

meh they think the wii is reaterd cuz you hav to move the hands

"but it looks kiddie,me not kidie me macho,me plays macho games!"
