Well, maybe this is just a rant, but it does bring up some interesting thoughts......

In Half-Life, we had the MP5.
From what is available, it also looks like we now have an MP7 AND a USP Match at Gordon's Disposal, and the Combine Forces carry MP5Ks.

Just wondering....maybe there is a little behind the scenes partnership between Heckler & Koch and Valve/Sierra/Vivendi? I mean, it could happen. And no, I don't think that the theory is debunked because of the Glock. Who the hell used the Glock as soon as you got your hands on the MP5?

I doubt that people who play Half-Life would go and buy H&K weapons. Although with a game this popular, you never know.

Although it's possible that they worked with H&K to design the weapon models, sounds , etc.

Indeed!!!
Good point...i forgots!

Yes, the H&K Team is responsible for bringing together the weapon aspect of the OICW Weapon System.

Also, one could say that Franchi is gettin pimped too as there is ANOTHER Spas-12, but truly...it's basically become the stereotypical combat shotgun....as the Desert Eagle has become the handcannon.

H&K are a bloody good gun manufacturer, thats why most special forces have some variety of their gun in their arsenal - in most cases the MP5. As HL featured special forces, it made sense to include the MP5, rather than mini-guns for everyone ;)

i seriousley dout it m8..? the MP7 whats that.?

you mean this m8

I doubt it...think Valve put those in because they wanted to...nothing else.

also I somehow doubt that a partnership between a weapon company and a game-company is such a smart idea...no matter how many money either of them would get off it...it just spells media back-lash all over...

I doubt that Valve wanna be one of the companies adding to the "games are bad"-debate even more than they already are...a partner ship with a weapon production company would make this even worse...

Look at the top m8, it says MP7 (i know, i usually call it the PDW as well, but some R6 f00z get it confused with the MP5k-PDW)

I dunno...but look at the rucus i've created with my first post.

:cheese:

Gotta agree 100% with PoS here. There is absolutely no advantage for Valve to enter into any kind of agreement with an arms manufacturer. Only serious downside risks. I don't think it would be such a positive image builder for H&K either- associating themselves with teenage hormone-fuelled demons of destruction is not exactly the most positive image of responsible gun ownership.

WOW...

WOW, does H&K also built the gravity gun? :afro:

I don´t think they have a partnership, cause especially in other countries than the US, gun manufactures don´t have many friends. Real weapons suck!!!

I think that that specific MP7 is a PDW (Personal Defence Weapon) model. I.E. the MP5K is not the same as the MP5K-PDW, and the Mp5K-PDW is not known simply as the PDW. But as far as I know, the MP7-PDW is the only MP7 being developed, so it can be known as both the MP7 and the MP7-PDW.

I don't think there's anything too unusual about a few H&K guns in a game like this. H&K guns are prevailent in more than a few games and plenty of movies too. I think the MP5 is the most common special operations SMG in use today. It's a bit cliché as well. I'm sure they're in about 50% of games using real world weapons, probably more, which is why i feel the MP7 is a nice change.

H&K designs very practical, reliable (and really cool ;)) guns in real life, why not use them in HL2 too?

Edit: About the previous post --
Yeah, I'm pretty sure that's the case. The 'K' designation was added for the development of the reduced lenghth barrel, i believe. The PDW deignation was added later with the addition of the vertical forward "pistol" style grip. I could be wrong about that. The only pictures or a RL MP7 i've seen, shows it having a vertical front grip like the mp5k-pdw. The MP7 was developed as a defense weapon for non-combatants, I think. The name of the weapon is MP7-PDW.
(don't mean to step on your toes or anything, stigmata. In case you think I'm arguing with you. I'm not, it all sounds good.)

your forgeting there has to be some partnership as there is still copyrights to get round and as we can see in the CS1.6 beta they've changed the gun names for that reason. But it still doesnt add up as why change the gun names in one valve title and not the other? Maybe just some legal crap

I doubt any game producer would liek to be affiliated with a gun manufacturer :|

Imagine the priests raving on THAT!

Mounds of brass are always fun. My older brother used to be the armourer for a local territorial unit in NZ and he knows the FN Mag inside out. Later on he worked as a gunsmith customising all sorts of weapons; AK's, Brens, Mini-14s -- before the Aramoana massacre and resulting assault weapons ban here.

More fun with machine guns - a machine gun crew on the range in Afghanistan:

Royal marines on the range - note the guy in the bottom left of the pic is probably feeling a little bit left out:

Heaps of more pix of British Army ops here: http://www.operations.mod.uk/

I'm pretty sure it was the glock 17.

They changed the gun names in CS 1.6? that would suck. i'm gonna make the mod 'screwthosePCscumsuckers-CS1.6' if they do.

It may just be me, but i think mung was suggesting this partnership "tongue in cheek". I don't think he seriously thought that it could exist. Judging by the replies, many people are taking it seriously. Sorry mung if i'm wrong!!! :)

Yeah soon we will be able to buy USP's with the HL2 Logo on the handle. w00t. :|

British Army - L96A1

Arguably the best sniper rifle in the world. :)

You bet, and the special edition of HL2 (you know, the one in the silver box) comes with a free round of ammunition! :)

My crazy theory is, HK is useing Half Life to see how its guns would react on targets ......That was lame *hits himself with spade*

You certainly got the arguing part right.

Given the L96A1's specification, the right training, and it being field tested under all conditions, it's probably the most effective weapon of its type in the world, so I'd say I got it right as well.

As for gun and game tie-ins, I doubt that would happen for two reasons. The gun manufacturer would have problems with its products being misrepresented by artistic license, and promoting their products in an entertainment product wouldn't be ethical.

you can get a third party patch to change them back even on steam

This is funny real because the UK Special forces have used this for quite a while now.
Hellish weapon ..realy.

Kind of like the Barret .50 BMG rifle.

except that is banned from use on soft targets (ie people)... it's a war crime.

Valve _HAS_ to make an agreement with the gun manufactors, it is illegal to have trademarked, copyrighted and i.e material in a commercial game without holders accept.

So basicly, they cant use the name "H&K MP-7 PDW" without having permission from H&K themselves.

Thats why the retail versions of CS dont have the real names of the gun.
