Valve in need of PR

Valve, how about telling else something concerning release date!?!? I am hanging on waiting for info if it will be released so I call buy it for Xmas or not. Common courteous for thousands of us to at least say if it looks like it may be released this month, next month or April or whenever. Valve has a general idea of when they will be done. If not by Xmas, they will lose $$$$ on people buying presents for children right now who would not otherwise by this game (unlike the people here). Get a PR person and make a statement!!!!

Do you fanboys have this sort of statement on a key-bind or something? I've never understood this rabid loyalty to valve. If they don't owe anything to us, then we don't owe anything to them.

I have to say I was annoyed at being fed lie after lie about the release date and other information circulating the net the last few months. What makes it even worse now is they are keeping deadly quiet about the whole thing. I'm certain they're not announcing a 'release date' yet because they simply don't know when it will be finished and they don't want to piss off the community any further should it get delayed again. It's a shame they're not even saying this is the case.

Oh stop it. Anyway, to say Valve owe us nothing is rather silly. Valve owe us a beutiful and brilliant game that they promised us for September.

Valve don't owe it... they need it. Apparently the spent a great deal of money they made from the success of HL1 on the development of HL2. So they don't owe us a great game, more likely they will need a great game to:

A) Cover the cash spent on the development
B) Live up to the expectations and confirm position as dev-gods
C) Please the crazy key-binding fanboys

Hate to see Valve go down with 3DFX and Looking Glass Studios, such great companies. It'd be a shame if the big Valve stopped turning because of a lack of funds. They also did hire many, many more people. Hope they haven't gotten in over their heads. Sort of like if you were to bid on 50 different things on eBay.

I don't understand how you can say that Valve has gotten over their heads, going bankrupt, or that they're going down the way of Looking Glass. Statements based solely on speculation, just because they haven't said that much in 2 months (not total blackout, either). By the same logic, 3D Realms should've run out of funds years ago.

No, they don't owe us anything. Because when HL2 comes out, you'll all buy it and stop talking about this shit.

Shouldn't put words in peoples mouths. I was speculating. I never said it is, or would. I'm just commenting that it would be a bad thing if Half-Life 2 didn't generate as much funds as Valve need, thus making Valve loose quite a bit.

How can you compare this to 3D Realms. They haven't released the game yet. Either has Valve. That's why I am saying they need a good game, because they have put so much into it, that they cannot afford for it to be bad.

Alright. What I mean is that Valve 'don't owe us anything'...or they wouldn't. Unfortunately they said to us "Look, heres a game for you, and you'll get it in september." If you happen to promise someone, say, five quid, then you are entitled to give it to them. Then again, we'd have to pay for HL2 anyway. So, all things considered...this debate will urn and run and there is no answer. My strategy is: Sure, Valve (sort of) owe us the game, but I can wait. Disgree as you will, but there it is.
