Valve owes you nothing ! You owe them your support !

I owe valve currently nothing. I paid for my copy of half life, ill pay for my copy of half life 2. There is no "owe" here. i have no dept to them, but they have a dept to me. Valve owes me a half life 2 that measures up to the hype THEY put out. If they say the game can do this then it better be able to do that because they have represented their product to do that. Now if they go above and beyond with the community. If they communicate honestly, answer questions and work to build that hype honestly then i have a debt to them. They have taken their free time to talk with me, or others about their product. This gets me more interested in their game and i spread the word to others. Debt paid.

Valve has communicated with the community great, but they have not communicated honestly. Two-7 month delays dont come out of nowhere three days before targetted release. No explanation has been given other than "its not ready". I will buy their game, and if i enjoy i will tell others to buy it, but i owe them nothing at this point.

As for the hacker i cannot say he was wrong for hacking their system. If he had not copied their source, had taken nothing, but had forwarded the info on what he did and how to valve in a respectful way i could not say he had done something wrong. Once he took the data, and spread it around that i view as wrong.

ok I didnt read nothing in this post an I didnt read the first poster I just read the thread name an felt like replying, I really dont think I owe valve any thing, because if they didnt make a game yall would just be on some other developrs jock sayin we owe them, I say they owe us because they want us to buy the game they are doing this all for us, well thats what they are sposed to be doing

While its true that Valve don't owe me anything..I don't owe them my support at all!!!!!!!!!!!!!
As a customer and consumer I have freedom of choice......

Yes we do

Yes we do owe valve, think about this, a company makes a game for about 1 million (as a example) and we pay what, 60$ in return, or 70$ etc.
after that we still own them like, a million dollars
the company and the players need each other, got it?

And what's this "we owe Valve" stuff?

"We" don't owe Valve crap. Valve is a company that produces entertainment products and "we" are the customers that buy said products (or potential customers I should say). That is it. I don't owe Valve a goddamn thing except the cash that I pay to buy my copy of their game. And that's as far as my obligation as customer extends.

Wich is exactly why Valve should direct all community support issues to thier publishers. Those people receive extensive training on giving machined answers to only certian questions. If your question isnt something they have a stock answer for, they answer a question that is on thier list. Valve has taken a different approach than most companies by being in dirct contact with thier fans...most companies dont consider you fans, they consider you customers,(whoever said id offers the same level of community support was just reaching for an argument) wich is exactly the way you should be treated...not as a person, but as a target market.

Companies spend millions trying to strip you of your individuality and train you to be a consumer, and after years and years companies finally have people right where they want them, once your tagged as an introverted white male aged 18-30 they can sell you exactly what they want you to have. Valve should take note of that. people dont want to be treated as people, or deal with people...people want to be treated like whores and deal with machines.

When you can prove how they tied you down and forced you to play HL, then you might have a case.

owned hard...

someone owes this guy who started this thread a kick in the ass

Jesus Christ. I honestly dont belive how stupud some of you are. I mean the guy was trying to make a post and give out his opinion about idiots that feel a company owes them and what happens? Idiots come on this thread and begin insulting the guy. Is everyone on these forums a God damn pimplefaced twelve year old who has never gotten laid?
For those whos argument is "valve lied, so it serves them right blah blah Im an idiot" ok. remember when your mom told you santa was real? well momma is a lying bitch. I wonder what you told her when you found out. Probably not a damn thing. Or maybe you cried.
for those other idiots who just came in here to bash this guy because "Im tired of these threads" DONT READ THEM. Grow up. I can't see being tired of something, but still going to it like a moth to a flame. If you are one of these people then you my friend are a F***ing moron.
If you have this inevitable itch, something that just tell you that you have to answer to my particular post in a negative way, do me a favor. Be halfway intelligent about it. You don't have to spell right. You don't have to have perfect grammar. All you have to do is to try and make a point like you would normally. Thats it. We are not all twelve year old little chits to be satisfied with a simple answer "STFU". THINK, I know its hard for some of you but just try to THINK your posts a bit and then begin typing.
Funny thing is, some of you, the idiotic type, will and have said so much stuff about valve and their tyranical malevolent plan to do this all along and how you are getting the beta blah blah blah. DON"T BUY THE GAME. Stick to the beta. If you have any conviction and resolve about your desition to not support such an evil company, then please get the stolen game and dont buy the retail vertion. I know this is bad for valve on many levels but hell, many of us normal people will have a blast playing online with non-idiots.
I apollogise in advance to the real people on these forums. I do NOT and will NOT apollogise to the idiots. you know who you are.

yeah sure owe them my support: after all these stupid lies of valve to the community hwhahaah sure...

You people are so naive and selfish. Are you angry because mommy didn't wipe your ass because you shit your pants? Are the teacher's at school being mean to you? Do you feel Jesus doesn't love you anymore?

Jesus guys, get over it. Valve = business ONLY interested in making money. I visited their office yesterday and let me tell you they're not "Hey a Fan! Here's a T-shirt." They could give a shit who you are! You're just another piece of meat that pays out this green stuff so you can have a box with a CD in it. You big crying babies! Hell, you'd probably commit suicide if Gabe came out and said "Ha, hl2 is real, but we're not gonna sell it. We're just gonna play it ourselves in my basement!"

We don't owe them anything and they don't owe you anytying. Get over it. We don't need another thread on the subject. People who feel they're owed = babies with no lives who are gonna grow up to become disappointed losers with no girlfriends and whack off to pictures of anime characters!

Christ.

Yep pretty much. There is a message in there besides the flame. Just look for it.

At least Zargade brought something new to the discussion. And actually some insight into empowering posters here to take a little self control to help curb spam filling up these boards.

Your fifty bux are in the mail.

I guess I'm really naive but I still look at Valve as a group of artists rather than a group of business men. I still think we ought to give them support/respect (by not slandering them etc) because we enjoy the work they've done.

I OWE valve my support?
Let me tell you something, I dont owe Valve ANYTHING nor do they owe me.
I am planning on buying their product, putting money in their company.
Thats all they want me to do and tahts what i want to do.
I dont owe them any kind of support.
I owe them feck all.

Valve owes you nothing ! You owe them your support !

Well, I don't think that I owe them anything, but I feel that it's important to support Valve, because they really are a great company. Half-Life gave me years of entertainment.

how many game developers give this level of support WHILE making a quadruple-A game which only a handful of people know about? they didn't just leave the original half-life the way it was and left us with a deathmatch; they gave us expansion after expansion which gave us all the times of our lives. now, with steam, we don't even have to manually download those aching patches; it does it for us. i don't think id has been so helpful to their customers; no matter how talented they are. if you poke their back, they'll scratch yours.

what's this about owing people stuff?

There's a measure of loyalty. But Loyalty is based on Trust. Valve has broken that trust. The community feels betrayed. It's natural that the loyalty is dissapating.

Now, if valve wants to be like any other company, they can do that. But if they want to keep their former esteme, they're gonna have to work hard to rebuild that lost trust.

The game may still come out in November...if not, blame the hacker who has convinced the entire community valve "lied" to justify stealing the source. it got delayed, get over it...its not betrayal by any means.

And no they dont have to workhrder to rebuild the trust, theyve done nothing to break it. I for one expected a delay, and even if I hadent, I wouldnt go to the extreme many people here have.

how dramatic :/
trust loyalty and everything else are illusions in this industry.
for christ's sake we are talking about a video game company, dealing with real life problems... not your uncle Jim.

reverse things a lil.. how loyal are you going to be if HL2 sucks? (hypothetical)
the fans are fickle, thats the truth...
people are just naive and self-centered to think otherwise.

good game!
nuff said..
no seriously
why are we still talking about this nonsense?
