Hi,

(I searched for this, and couldn't find it anywhere else on these forums, so i posted it)

My Greek friend said that he read in a greek gaming magazine called "Game Masters" that Valve had stated that they would probably be shutting down, due to other companies sueing them with the source code and other reasons. Is this true?

Greeks have computers? I thought they were still using the abacus.

The only thing that wasn't theirs was the Havok engine, i think they actually bought the rights to the facial animation, but don't quote me on that, just going from memmory on one of the many interviews i read.

And obviously this is fake, the land of Greece is from fairy tails and story books. It's like saying "A magazine from the land of Oz reported that Half Life 2 will be out september 30th"

Valve shutting down has got to be one of the stupidest rumours I have ever heard on the internet, period.

I don't understand this, why bother giving out info that isn't true?
No one will believe them anyway.
Ok, if it is a rumor spread on the IRC, but when game magasines and game homepages spreads it, I just get mad.

as far as i remember everything related to games, even small games on mobile phones were forbidden in greece half a year ago, so i consider a greek gaming magazine( if they even still exist) as a bad source for any gaming related news.

It's not as if there is nothing much to do with computer games there though.

He has loads of games and software, and a website

But anyway, I just wanted it confirmed.

i read on a board (and in the newspaper), that many ppl , also owners of internet cafes already have been sued for owning and playing games. in the newspaper here they even warned to take mobile phones to greece since they have small games inside..weird...

that's y i mentioned this. and anyway, the havoc ppl would already have stated somethign like this, if they were going to sue valve, wouldn't they?

Weird, a country that outlaws games. I do recall reading something about this somewhere. Is there any reason they're doing it? Or just spite?

that sounds like a rubbish magazine. Thanks for bringing it up James!

Actually, they never intended to ban computer/video games. It only happened as a side effect of a badly-worded law banning "electronic gaming", by which they meant electronic gambling machines.

no it's not true.

no, you think it very unlikely

or

no, you heard a top level VALVe employee say specifically; "We are not shutting down"

Why do people on this board insist on formulating their opinions/thoughts as facts?

:afro:

LOL what makes u think Greece outlawed games HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH
thats the funniest thing ive everheard.
Its never outlawed games, i should know i lived there for 10 years

No, it's true, Greece briefly banned gaming, it was all over the news here in the UK. Apparently the law got struck down though, something to do with European law... Thank god for the EU eh?
