Valves Joke, explanation with proof

My head is almost exploding of the number of shit posts on this forum. I ventilated a little. Sorry if anyone felt tripped on. :)

Why they had to re-use code?

Well... because re-writing some functions/routines/algorithms would end up in EXACTLY the same code. Why re-invent the wheel?

Its not like a bubble sort algorithm will work quicker just because you re-write it 5 years later.

Take D3 for an example... Carmack have told us he reused ALOT of his old code for D3.

So much False Authority Syndrome affected people in this thread, I could puke.

OF COURSE THEY SAY THAT! Otherwise ppl will go on; "uh.. its based on Q1.. i wont buy it... ".

Dont be so focking naive.

They re-use SOME code from HL1... and its perfectly obvious why.
Actually on some older interview Gabe said that they reused code. Mainly only the renderer has been rewritten according to him. Also, the UT2 engine is an evolutionary version to the original engine. The Q3 engine is an evolutionary version to the Q1 engine. And so on. So yeah, what is the big frickin' deal with Source reusing HL1 code?! Why would people reinvent the damn wheel each time? In each operating system or application you can find code from the very first incarnations!

There is extremely strong evidence to point to one theory about this Half-Life 2 source (thanks AM10k and MegaMan for help)

Theory:

This IS half-life 2, but not the half life 2 you are thinking about. After the successful release of Half-life 1 valve began work on the sequel. This sequel was to build on the popularity of half-life to earn valve big $$$. So they started developing half-life 2, they built it directly on top of the half-life one game. But that didn't work out Half-Life's engine simply couldn't cut it to what they wanted to do.. oh no! Lets start again :(

From IGN

Wow how interesting so that points out that actually there where two engines for half-life 2 developed and one dropped  Shocking isn't it, now all of you run to your half-life 2 source and look to see if the directx SDK's actually supplied where used AT ALL?! No ... ahh!

I love theories I really do. I spend long hours coming up with some good ones. BUT there is one thing you forgot..

HL1 was released back in 1997-1998 (If I remember correctly) I could be wrong but it had to be around then I think. Back in 97-98 the hardware was not able to handle or render any of the effects that we see in HL-2. So I guess my point is there would be no way for a development team to even start making HL-2 back then as if I remember correctly hardware T&L was still forced on the CPU not the GPU.
