Lo ppl. just read this, it's very short, but a VERY interesting read. see for yourself...all the more reason to upgrade to ATI (ttthhhhank god i did)...

http://www.anandtech.com/showdoc.html?i=1862

gulp..not sure how old it is, but this maybe an older interview. maybe things have changed in the source code to help nvidia run faster?? who knows.

i think that this is another shred of proof that the FX architecture is flawed shite....

or you may want a look at this aswell: http://www.extremetech.com/article2/0,1558,1265063,00.asp
for the 'official hl2 test results'...

It's old but not quite as poor of a test than benchmarking the stolen build.
They will keep the Nvidia mixed path for the FX 5900 and 5600. AFAIK
5200 will run DX8.1.

the hl2 test results show that 9800 pro out beats the 5900 ultra every time, and the 9600 pro tends to beat the 5900 ultra almost every time. fx5600 is a joke by the looks of it...tho keep in mind that this test was based on the incomplete code, so the fx series will propbably plummet even more, as the radeons are better suited to the code. i believe the designers used readeons...but i think thats just a rumor.

I hope you know that wass from a stolen build, which can't prove anything, because its not finished.

Argg im going to have to wait untill saturday just to read that. :frown: Atleast im going camping though :E
Article sound like it will be a good read.

Edit: Never mind that was from september 10th 2003! I thought it was from today. Im going to laught at my friends now. I told them not to get an Nvidia card. But they insistead. "oh no its got 256 memory its just as fast as the 9800 pro but a lot cheaper". Stupid people shouldnt have got a 5600. (just on a side note, one of my friends who bought the 5600 was all pissed off because it was running halo at 15 FPS. He got all made and said it was the programmers fault. Its one of those situations where you got to say, I told ya so)

I hope you know those are OFFICIAL BENCHMARKS. Not stolen build benchmarks. Note the date..

I DO!!!!!!! Full DETAIL BABY!

They probably have added a lot of effect and have also optimised it a lot since then.
Those benchmarks are valid for their time. They are no where near similar to the stolen build.
They are just slightly dated tests although they still stand up for today, to a degree.
The reviewers got to setup their machines and such with the demos and benchmark them as they wish. They had someone there making sure nothing went screwy though.

I'm pretty sure you can get a new 9800Pro for $199 US, i'm canadina so I don't stay up to date on us prices that much. it would save you from all the things that could happen on ebay, plus that could be a 128bit card instead of the better 256bit cards.

God Dammit I have a 5900 and they say it performed herrendosly slow! Im MAD AT MY GAY CARD!!! :flame:

dont know how good that is in £, but if its near £130 then definitely get it. if u can afford it, do yourself a favour and get it. ull be glad u did when you blast your way around city17, soaking up all hl2's beauty, playing the game the way the guys at valve intended it to :)

blah someone got it like an hour after i posted that :hmph: ...well im deciding right now if i should get a 9800 pro right now...or wait till xmas for a newer card (6800 or x800)..but i wanna have a great exprience playing hl2 first time around, but i dont know if my ti 4200 will handle that. I need the 9800 pro to last me 2 years ( my ti 4200 has, and the card is what..3-4 years old?) so i wonder if the 9800 pro would last me that long..hm...i just dunno how fast new cards will be coming out in the future and how much games will demand

The TI 4200 isn't as bad as the FX cards were, the TI cards were good. You'll have to run in Dx8.1, but you should be able to run 1024x768 with medium settings.

hmm...just found at buy.com that a 6800nu is only 250...only 50 more than the 9800 pro and the 6800 outperforms a 9800xt in some benches...
the 6800 should run HL2 right? Ive read so much about how the game is optomized for ATI that i dont know anything anymore..

lol ul m8. i would get the 9800 pro as it is a good future investment. no games are gonna be using the new vertex and pixel 3.0 on the 6800 and x800. hl2 and other dx9 games have just started using 2.0, so dont bother with the new cards. Wait until the prices reach the 100's, then go buy them. get the 9800pro as their prices have dropped so much since the new cards have been released...thats y i got mine on the weekend.

blah ive just decided to wait and save up for a 6800 GT, its way better than the 9800 xt and will last me longer..thanks for the idea tho

cant get a radeon 9800 till september 25th :( (mah bday) guess my current card will have to do....

ouch m8. hey our bday is the same lol. small world. anyway, hl2 will be released before then...touch ALOT of wood. u may want to throw the card out just for an excuse to get the 9800 lol. i had a 5600...it sux dont it.

sep 25th...for some reason i dont think it will be released before then (UNHOLY WORDS)

actually i think you're right. i wont b surprised if it doesnt make this year, therefore leaving doom3 on the number 1 spot (feel sick with the thought alone).

id love to be proven wrong tho...just that the hl2 release date is so close yet so far away. every bit of info we scrape away from valve, makes that day seem forever to reach us all.

small world indeed heh
the 5600 is not to bad for some games i play but it does indeed suck for any hardcore games think i may have to get a summer job to buy a 9800 sooner...

Im not saying it wont come out, but im expecting it later then september...and as much as i want it to come out...in a way i want it to takes its time...so i can save up money for a new graphics card :D

*gets shot*
