Go Uncharted 2. Fully deserved, 3 awards.

Rocksteady deserved credit for their Batman Arkham Asylum work.

Surprised at no Halo for the 360...actually makes me smile at the fanboys crying in the corner.

***k MW2. Sales dont win recognition.

Shadow Complex and Matt Hazard won awards out of that cesspool. That's all that matters.

Do we really REALLY need another one of this stupid vga award thread?

Huh? Its only once a year...I think.

The game's industry is huge, and awards like this matter to sales.

Look at Modern Warfare. They slapped the 'GOTY' badge on their box cover.

Fallout 3 GOTY edition.

Elder Scrolls Oblivion GOTY edition.

Casual gamers will see that on the box, not having played it before as they either havent heard of it or were sceptical about buying it earlier, and suddenly think 'Oh, GOTY eh? Cant be that bad after all'. *Ker-ching* one more sale and more money for the developer.

Saying that is like saying 'Do we REALLY need to know who won Gold at the Olympics?'

'Do we REALLY need to know who won an Oscar'.

Its a acknowledgement of the best in the business that year.

Proud moment.

Blah blah blah.

Im so corrupted...

I think Hybrid was asking why we needed a new thread rather than posting this in the VGA awards show thread.

Nice to see Flower get some recognition.

am i the only one who thinks the "fueled by dew" category is pathetic?

Am I the only one who thinks that they gave the award to Megan Fox just so she'll be at the show?

Yeah just to make more a mockery of it probably, bringing in a talentless actress with a plastic face.

I did laugh when I saw her name.

But then I thought 'who else could have won it?'. Kristen Bell for AC2?

opinions are opinions so really i'm not disappointed at all

I thought the point of 'best console game' was for exclusives.

L4D2 is not an exclusive.

Demon's Souls would be better in DA: O's place.

You so corrupted, mang!

I could really care less about the awards, unless it's a game I strongly support or believe in. Otherwise, I'm more interested in smaller games and smaller game companies making it in the biz.

BEST PERFORMANCE BY A HUMAN FEMALE
Megan Fox as Mikaela Banes (Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen / Activision Publishing)

BEST ORIGINAL SCORE
Halo 3: ODST (Microsoft Game Studios / Bungie)

BEST SHOOTER
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (Activision Publishing / Infinity Ward)

OH LOL.

Spike also run the "Guys' Choice Awards". The live stream for VGA was available in four different Burger King themed angles. I can appreciate that consolidating all of America's stupid in front of one television channel has its benefits, but until they actually install the centrally-controlled Immolation device onto your cable boxes, pointing and sneering is only so effective.

Have you played ODST yet? ;)

The score is actually rather good. I agree on the rest.

How can Uncharted 2 get game of the year while Assassin's Creed 2 gets best action/adventure :rolling:

I'm not the biggest fan of halo but even i can say that the ost kicked ass :)

Yeh shit like that is annoying.

Btw does the ODST soundtrack have that Hungarian song on it from the live-action trailer?

Hey, less of that Warbs - you know I'm not opposed to the Halo franchise. I have good things to say about all three of the games, particularly the first. I don't deny they're entertaining spectacles. In answer to the question, no, I haven't played ODST, but I don't think I'm wrong - or at least far off - in assuming it possesses the same boring and plain orchestral score as the previous games. It's sub-standard music, and it always has been; the reason for its praise is simply due to the mediocrity that most idiots thrive on.

It's not sub-standard if it's the best one. *

Well spotted Virus. However you failed to note that the person saying it was sub-standard also believes that it is not the best one.

Oh, I was thinking that he was comparing it to the competing games from the VGA awards.

So, what were the other contenders for 'soundtrack of the year'?

I disagree with almost every single one of those.

hmm.

ODST's music actually differs quite a bit from that of the other three. It retains a Halo-esque sound, but the music for each level is way more unique and tailored than in previous games.

Yes, what a boring 2 hour ad campaign that was. I love how every game won an award. Like they were just trying to get every 2009, AAA game out there mentioned.

Anyways I'm sure the 12 year old's playing Halo and MW2 are all stocked up on "Mnt dew" and "Burger king" by now.

assuming it possesses the same boring and plain orchestral score as the previous games.

That surprises me. When I think of great video game soundtracks - other than the obvious themes - it's Halo that springs to mind first (and not just because i'm a raving Halo fanboy). The score has always done a great job of setting the mood, building momentum, and then kicking in when the combat gets intense. You realy think it's substandard? I must have been missing all the games with great soundtracks.

ODST changed the forumula somewhat and punctuates the game with a sombre and eery backing track that contrasts heavily with the battle anthems we usually get. With the sound turned up and the lights off it's good stuff :)

Btw does the ODST soundtrack have that Hungarian song on it from the live-action trailer?

I'm pretty sure that was just in the trailer. Cracking song :)

I have to say, Halo's music was the one thing about it that wasn't mediocre.

Shouldnt the discussion be leaning toward the non-Halo games?

You know, the ones that won awards that are actually worth talking about?

'Oh the music in ODST was great'...

End of convo surely?

And yes, I hate everything related to Halo.

You're telling me that when someone says "great video game soundtracks" you think of Halo first? Out of all the video games, out of all the video game soundtracks, the first game you think of is HALO?

Boy...that's an opinion to put reaction faces to, I tell you what.

And yes, I hate everything related to Halo.
You're dumb, then. Say what you will about the franchise, you cannot deny the majesty of this motherfucker:

I can't say I remember a single one of Halo 1's tracks... except to say that most of it was variations on that solid and memorable main theme.

I seem to remember Halo 2 pushing the envelope a little too far on the rearrangements. Also: Breaking Benjamin.

The discussion in a Spike VGA awards thread will naturally lean towards the topic which has the most merit. If we were all in the same room, we'd be discussing who farted.

You're telling me that when someone says "great video game soundtracks" you think of Halo first? Out of all the video games, out of all the video game soundtracks, the first game you think of is HALO?

Pretty much. The big themes first - stuff like Mario, Zelda, Outrun, Sonic, FF, Tetris. Recently, though, it's Halo kicking in with electric guitars when the lasers start flying.
