Vice City

I think you're kind of missing the point, Foxtrot... treat the game as a 'sandbox' - you don't have to follow the missions if you don't want to, but it's rewarding to do so because you'll get more vehicles and weapons. If you want you can just cruise around causing chaos and evading the cops - that's a laugh in itself... I guess having a full simulated town to drive around isn't gonna be fun for everyone...
The settings isnt the problem, it is the controls mostly. If this was like Max Payne I would be loving it, but it plays more like Final Fantasy.

Save yourself the frustration and download it for PC. Yes, it's illegal, but you already have the game on PS2, and the new one's coming out in about three weeks on the PC. You can't imagine how much easier it is to play GTAVC on the computer. Better for everything except wheelies and gradual turns.

Wha?! Do you have 50,000rpm hard drive and 5gig or RAM or something? Level transitions normally take at least 15-20 seconds for most people...
They take under 3 seconds on my PC. At least they do on Mult-theft Auto which is all I play nowadays with regard to VC.

PC > All.

I am going back to my original statement, this is the most over rated game ever. It sucks, it is just simply a terrible game. Poor graphics, terrible voices, bad sound effects, aweful controls (the worst I have used since the N64) and the camera is terrible. Also, the missions are never any fun to do because there is always only one way to do them, and to find that way you have to do it several times which ends up taking a couple hours from having to drive around.
Remember that it came out in 2002, so of course the graphics aren't great. You try rendering a city of that size with any better graphics and most consoles would've died at that time.

Also, you said earlier you have to jump off the bike to shoot... you can actually fire from the bike with an SMG.

...How in God's name can you say that the voice acting sucks?!

Not voice acting, just the qualiity of it, it just sounds terrible and very low quality, like it was recorded in a bathroom.

Sounds extremely top notch to me...

You should seriously, and I mean seriously consider getting the PC version.
It's only like $20 now...atleast from where I live.

Seeing as you played it on a console, I can see why your experience with it was so bad. These types of games are basically made for the PC...

Seriously dude, Only 20 bucks...What's to lose?
I can almost guarentee that you'd have a WAY better experience with it on the PC. :)

I am just going to wait for San Andreas.

We were talking about HL2. For some reason that escapes me as I am writing this post :/

EDIT: The thing I hated about the console version was the targetting system. That's why console shooters suck, because of the lack in accuracy.

Yes, it is one of the most overrated pieces of shit ever. GTA3 was actually better. With Vice City, they pretty much relyed on the novelty of doing things that are "shocking' and controversial, without bringing anything new to the table.

Stock Car racing contests
Motocross and dirtbike trials
Flyable helicopters and planes
Motorbike chases
Changeable clothes
'Period' radio
Chasing across golf courses in buggies
Awards for stunts
Owning properties and collecting revenue
Interior locations

The quality is top notch imo.

I think the swedish PCGamer review put it perfectly; Vice City is all about references and tributes to the 80's culture. Those who only see the nostalgia and such in the game as minor details are going to be disappointed, because it is actually the entire substance and atmosphere of the game.

That game was the only reason I bought my PS2.

I know it's not that old, but the way games progress these days, maybe you should have played it in its era.

A lot of games are like that. If you don't appreciate the game in its era, once it is passed and you didn't play it, you can't appreciate it for what it was.

Like all the youngins saying how much the original Super Marios Brothers games sucked and such.

I love Vice City, it's the only gta game I even play, thought about trying III out but no, 80's all the way. I've never seen a game dedicated to the 80's era, and what better way to remember it, with crazy fire truck jumps, out running smokys in a delorian with a booster bound to the shift key, blowing stuff up by simply running away from it, and some of the greatest music from my time, not to mention the really dumb but funny commercials(rusty brown ring donut), ahh what an obsession lol

Can't forget the Faggio. By far the best (funniest) vehicle in the game \:D/

I was nonplussed by it as well, to be honest. GTA3 was great fun, but Vice City was just more of the same. The superficial differences weren't enough to convince me I that I wasn't just playing the same game again. And after beating all of GTA3, that game was old.
Plus I found the handling on the vehicles was worse.

Also it kept crashing, and getting LOD errors. I've never had that on any other game.

The 80's references were great, but that was all it had.

yes i agree somewhat, i think vice city was tweaked really well from gta3, the new setting was great, i wouldnt say tweaked to perfection as there were still alot of glitches like you say. gta:sa seems to have continued the work of vc, they basically just add more stuff onto an already pretty good game, if it aint broke for them why fix it.
