Welcome to next gen?Asus said:
It's like 3.1 to 95.so can someone please tell me how switching from xp to vista will benefit me?
Well 1gig 32bit == 2gig 64bit.holy crap 2gb gddr3 memory
I know they've been cuting alot of the new features, so it isnt going to be quite that big of an improvment.Minerel said:It's like 3.1 to 95.
64 bit community, totally gets rid of the registry system with a newer XML type system. It's dramatically quicker than XP. More Multiprocessing support(Vista dosn't have to wait for one thing to do the other). The system itself takes full advantage of 3D video cards.
Just about every single windows component and how everything works has had an extremely massive overhaul.
Overall it's one massive leap. It isn't just a redefined interface.
Well I know they were cutting WinFX(I think or somtin like that) and releasing it in a patch, but I believe some of it is in Beta 1(or was found).I know they've been cuting alot of the new features, so it isnt going to be quite that big of an improvment.
Yah, I'm wondering if the people who say "everything" has been cut has only heard abotu Beta1, which dosent really have any of the new features, but the future Betas will.Minerel said:Well I know they were cutting WinFX(I think or somtin like that) and releasing it in a patch, but I believe some of it is in Beta 1(or was found).
Even though, they will be released later as microsoft said.
Probably, people can get confused easily these days.Yah, I'm wondering if the people who say "everything" has been cut has only heard abotu Beta1, which dosent really have any of the new features, but the future Betas will.

... For MS Word?giant384 said:well yea its pointless to get it right when it comes out but mabye a year or so u will need it

You'll only need Vista if you're going to be running 64-bit apps. Besides, there are people that still use Windows 98

Insane said:One big thing that still isn't part of the OS is that it automatically updates graphic drivers.
It will run 64bit applications. But some things may not 100% work if they require certain vista things. Since Vista is one massive overhaul.Wont that run all the 64 bit applications just the same as vista?
Asus said:The desktop gfx won't be showing when you go to a 3D game. The 2GB memory, dual core, NCQ harddrive are just things that will help speed up the larger data that they are expecting in the future (64bit HD video content etc). And if you are running the 64bit version with 64bit games/apps then the memory will help a lot.
These are recommended requirements fyi not min.
"There's a LOT of encryption and decryption going on. We communicate on the PCI Express bus in a fully encrypted format because it is considered a public bus.
"The downside is that all your existing flat panel monitors and projectors aren't going to work with high-def videos in Vista. Bad news."
Last I heard late 2006/early 2007 release window.Dr. Freeman said:okay...if one were building a system come X-mas with Vista in mind, what kinda system would u put together? im curious because i am so out of the loop here.
edit: is there a release date for Vista? not that i'll be running to the store as soon as its available.. infact i'll probably be waiting at least a year after release to get Vista.

If I didn't have the PC I do now and I bought a PC today it would be Dual Core (personally Athlon X2 3800+) with 1 or 2 GB of memory with a 6800GT.
Dr. Freeman said:hmm..late 2006?
should i just wait til closer to Vista release to upgrade?
what i don't want is to get something now, or some time in the near future only to have be very average specs for Vista even tho i may not purchase the OS when released.. i do want to be well beyond the requirements for it.
