Warcraft. that's the obnly explanation from recieving all these reviews prior to release. World of warcraft is being relesed just a week later than HL2 (23rd) The money will be rolling in for them.

Right now WOW open beta stress test is biding my time until Tuesday. It's really a good game. I've never played a MMORPG before. By the 18th WOW servers will be closed for WOW before release so I can delve into HL2 after that.

Wow is a big joke anyway i cant believe people will actually pay money each month to play this crap.

Agreed. Ironicly had they done what they did with Wow for Diablo instead of Wracraft it would probably have been the best selling MMO of all time. (and it would still suck :) )

Viviendi 'held' the game (they don't see it that way) to punish Valve, because Valve will seriously be cutting into their profits becasue of Steam. It was Valve's dirty trick they played on Vivendi: Valve used Vivendi to publish the boxed version they needed published, fulliy knowing that they would later make the most money for themselves by publishing the game themselves through Steam. It pissed off Vivendi (rightfully so), and so Vivendi refused to release the game 'early', or let Valve activate copies through Steam. WOW had nothing to do with it.

Valve's greedy, sneaky, business practice against Viviendi is the reason we hace the the idea that the game was 'held back' at all...

Love the game and stuff, and not all that fond of Vivendi, but Valve is the guilty party here, doing somewhat dirty business.

Considering how popular Warcraft is, the range of games and fan base, not to mention a functioning and battle hardened BattleNet, I think they will do fine.

Let's see if STEAM is still here ten years from now.

Oh yes thats right,I forgot, I can play Warcraft or Warcraft 2 or Warcraft 3 or Diablo 2 offline and not need to authenticate with BattleNet. I just put the cd in the drive and away I go.

If you buy HL2 four years from now and STEAM isnt working....you have a nice drinks coaster that cost you $80.00 or more.

How do you play a game that cant be authenticated.

Hmm???

...why would steam not be here in 10 years time? theyr gona update it, not scrap it

SirTech, Sierra,Interplay, Bullfrog,Westwood, Impressions...want me to go on?

Guarantee me that Valve will be here in 2014?

I don't think so.

^ and they will release something to authenticate HL2 for their customers in the form of a 20kb unlocking program or whatnot then.
