vivendi is officially ****ed

It doesn't feel that good because i'm still getting the retail copy.

I wonder wat VU is saying right now? I'm sure they are going crazy as we speak. To bad im buying retail which means they get some money still >_<

Yeah, as much as I'd love to get it via steam. I have to have physical CDs. Oh well.

Same. But now because of the ridiculously-impatient individual that I am I'm somewhat considering buying a Steam package. Just to be able to play the second the retail release day hits 12:01 makes me all giddy. But having the discs is a big plus for me as well. Why oh why must you torture me so Valve?!

I was mildly surprised there was no gold announcement this morning. Naturally I thought VU would use it as a way to stave off mass purchasing via steam. Oh well, Valve's already got my $60 now.. you snooze you lose and all that.

I assumed a gold announcement as well. Just think how much more funds Valve will have this time around for Half-Life 3 :) Make the leap to VR!!!

ooooh yeah, valve and vivendi relationship has got to be going smooth now, especially along with their friendly lawsuit

wow vivendi better release some news or they are toast

If you really, REALLY need Discs. You could just... you know, burn the GCF files to CDs/DVDs along with a copy of the Steam Installer and then put a label on them that matched the one that's going to be on the HL2 release discs.

Valve rocks  err, wait thats not the word...err.. THEY ABSOLUTLEY F***ING ROCK! They deserve everything they make from this, i mean they are offereing every game they have made or licenced, loads of extra stuff, the game, a fast service (for the most part) etc. As for buying retail, Gabe said the gcf files could be backed up on disc so im gonna do that. The whole premise of Paying more to get more is great, when was the last time a company worked out different packages that would suit everyone from a casual gamer to a hardcore fan?

I got Gold BTW as a 'Christmas Present' from my parents, still the stuff is gonna take 6-8 weeks to arrive so i guess it will be.

Only children who want to VILLIFY "the man" think VUG is "****ed" as you so elequently put it.

They are fine you are the minority and they will make a tidy profit. You are the one getting "****ed" for buy high set prices for a game that will depreciate in value in the space of a month.

I will get what you have for less. I laugh at your impatience.

Some of you kids will never learn...

Vivendi is not "****ed".

1. Do you actually think that the steam sales will even be anywhere near retail? No, not even close! Because the small majority of HL2 fans are the only ones that know/care about buying through steam.

2. Are the prices on steam that much better than retail? No. What are you getting (take gold for example) that is that much better than retail? Hmm lets see, stickers, oh joy; posters, now I can show my friends that I like Half-Life 2, but they already knew that because of the one-size fits all cap; what about your "collectors box"...whats the point if it doesnt contain something inside of it? I'm missing the point. And a postcard, that you can use...well YOU can't because you're sitting at the computer staring at your new stickers all over your moniter. Honestly, when you think about it, most people arent interested in that stuff.

3. Vivendi is a HUGE corporation, do they care that they lose out on a few dollars from you 'hardcore' HL2 fans who order on steam to support Valve? I didnt think so.

sorry that made me laugh... no one is getting f*cked "for buy high set prices" ... there ARE NO high set prices. the hl2/cs:s price combo is exactly the same as almost every other game.

There are currently 5,681 on CS:S right now, not bad for a few hours of uptime huh?

By the way why are you so angry? do you work for VUG or something?

It just isn't the same. It's like having burned music CD's in your collection... doesn't feel right. :|

Almost full price for a game that has no production/distribution/or middle man cost. Are you retarded or just high? PLUS it's a set price and I could shop around for a better lower price when it hits stores.

CS:s is free no matter what so don't bother deviding the cost by 2. On that note don't bother deviding the game by any number because all you get extra is ports to the SOURCE engine. Something people would do anyway without paying.

If you're too dumb to or too impatient to wait go ahead and pay more. I will save money and you won't. Learn to use your head and a calculator.

hey, but the absolute truth is that vivendi is losing profit with each sale that goes through steam. *shrug*

Which is probably the only reason why I want it from retail. I dunno, Vivendi better lower the prices for retail that's cheaper than STEAM packages or something, so the people will see and run to them.

the way vivendi seems to be acting just makes me dislike them and the french in general, even more

Only children who want to GLORIFY "the man" think VUG is unjustly villified.

You are the minority, and they will lose profit. You are the one getting "****ed" for letting yourself be lead by those bastards.

I laugh at your ignorance.

u see how most of ur arguments are just insults, wonkers? -which anyone can vomit from their mouths if they turn into a red inebriated monkey?

ok, people still call it a few dollars. u always underestimate ur own influence u know?! this site alone has around 20,000 members. if each of them buys the cheapest steam option (at $49.95) that is a cool million bucks ($999000 exactly). and i know many people r buying the more expensive options, and even buying more than one package. corporations don't even see one penny as usless, cause if u do, that's the way u start to make losses.

on another note, i don't think the prices r too expensive (especially for us outside the states), plus we already pay similar prices for games that r just... normal or average. so why wouldn't we pay the same for a game that we've been waiting 6 years for, specially when all the reviews r just sending our patience to hyper space (wherever that is)? and why wouldn't we buy it from valve directly, since (whatever u think of thier prices, greedy or not) they have really worked hard for this game? (yeah i know i spied on them :hmph: )

I just hopes this means that Vivendi will release the game sooner. So that I can pick up my copy and rejoice.

No see what they do is cram the sticker, hat, postcard and poster into the collectors box so when you open it you have something to show for your money.

I'm going retail. I am hoping that we in Aus get the standard DVD version as well cause that would be my option. I can't justify the extra cost of the CE just to play HL: source and get a shirt I will never wear. I have played HL enough to know that it will end exactly the same way regardless of what engine is behind it. Same enemies, same levels. Sure they will look nicer but it's still the same. Would you all rush out and buy all your other games again just because they got an upgraded engine...?

I'm gonna laugh my ass off when you steam people fire up steam at 12:01 and then... CRASH! I know, I know, its not likely that will happen but it would be funny if it did. Damn funny. For me anyway. :p And you have to admit, Steam is not the most stable piece of software in the world.

Talk to me not at me. You take a defensive stance to my writing and all of a sudden I am "attacking" you. Just because I don't agree with you doesn't mean I am "attacking" you.

My other post wasn't quoted properly. I said impatience. or meant to. (too lazy to check.)

I don't take kindly to warbanding either.

___________________________________________________

Vivendi isn't screwed at all. Valve is making extra money from impatient people. VUG is going to make more money overall. And HL2 will be no more a money maker than anyother FPS.

*** that was strickly an opinion ***

I only laugh or mauk people to young or ill equiped to handle finance properly. geeze like warning people they're wasting money is wrong.

It sounded like a rant Wonkers.
In the end you pays your money, you takes your choice.
I've steamed it but I seriously considered getting the box. In fact, if I'd done that there was a small chance that I could have had the game in my hands the day before release, but since it's got to be activated by steam still in this case it'd done me no good.
