Vivendi is not "****ed".
1. Do you actually think that the steam sales will even be anywhere near retail? No, not even close! Because the small majority of HL2 fans are the only ones that know/care about buying through steam.
2. Are the prices on steam that much better than retail? No. What are you getting (take gold for example) that is that much better than retail? Hmm lets see, stickers, oh joy; posters, now I can show my friends that I like Half-Life 2, but they already knew that because of the one-size fits all cap; what about your "collectors box"...whats the point if it doesnt contain something inside of it? I'm missing the point. And a postcard, that you can use...well YOU can't because you're sitting at the computer staring at your new stickers all over your moniter. Honestly, when you think about it, most people arent interested in that stuff.
3. Vivendi is a HUGE corporation, do they care that they lose out on a few dollars from you 'hardcore' HL2 fans who order on steam to support Valve? I didnt think so.
spitcodfry said:Same. But now because of the ridiculously-impatient individual that I am I'm somewhat considering buying a Steam package. Just to be able to play the second the retail release day hits 12:01 makes me all giddy. But having the discs is a big plus for me as well. Why oh why must you torture me so Valve?!
wonkers said:They are fine you are the minority and they will make a tidy profit. You are the one getting "****ed" for buy high set prices for a game that will depreciate in value in the space of a month.
I will get what you have for less. I laugh at your impatience.

It just isn't the same. It's like having burned music CD's in your collection... doesn't feel right. :|DannoHung said:If you really, REALLY need Discs. You could just... you know, burn the GCF files to CDs/DVDs along with a copy of the Steam Installer and then put a label on them that matched the one that's going to be on the HL2 release discs.

sorry that made me laugh... no one is getting f*cked "for buy high set prices" ... there ARE NO high set prices. the hl2/cs:s price combo is exactly the same as almost every other game.
