Vivendi says april...

What is so unrealistic about the April? It's quite simple, when was the last time you saw some actual HL2 media? Meaning that the game isn't quite done yet. As for Vivendi, although HL2 will be publish under their level, they don't really know about the actual release date yet, only Valve does.

I'm more then certain then neither HL2, Doom3 nor STALKER will make any time soon, this game are way too complex and ambitious. Far Cry is the only game that i feel very optimist about as being released sooner then any of this previous titles.

I'd recomend to all of you who can't wait to play the game, to either get a girlfriend or take challange such as learning a computer programming language or something. As for myself, i should be getting my Sun workstation box soon, it shall keep me busy until HL2 is finally available.

I can understand why you feel this way, but I feel differently.
If you think about it, really, the game has been under development for more than 5 years. I believe this means they could´ve released it for a few months now (if they were any other developer maybe..?) but they keep polishing it, and probably changing stuff to make it harder to cheat and exploit using the stolen code.

Also, since hl2 has been in development for so long, I find it impossible that the "alpha" is recent in any way (or probably the cracker didn´t get alot of what was there, if it was recent).

I´m quite certain it´s a realistic date to aim for for Valve/Vivendi, but just being realistic doesn´t make it certain that that´s when it´ll be released... Valve just seems to be perfectionists that way...

As for the lack of media, well that just seems to be how Valve works. They don´t do huge marketing, they make games, and seem to be comfortable with the games speaking for themselves, whenever they´re out.

I had a girlfriend for a very long time a while ago, and I´m perfectly happy single right now actually! :afro:
But I do practice martial arts to keep me busy, and maan... school is such a pain right now...

Eventhough I don´t agree with you, I really think you have valid arguments...

(Damn I wrote much !? Better get an answer.... :x )

dont see what this thread proves tbh...

I didn´t say it proves anything... Check the link in the first post... The list is from Vivendi, and what I´m really asking is do you believe what they say when they say HL2 will be out in april?

Edit: WOHOOOOO tenth post!!!!11!!11

Technically, I didn´t tell you to visit IGN... :p

But really, reading stuff at IGN makes you angry ? weird... I get happy when I read stuff there, the editors are kinda funny... The postal review, for example is quite amusing...
I can´t understand why they gave DX2 such a good score, but whatever, to each his own...

I´ll check out actiontrip btw..

You misunderstood me I meant why should I go there when your going to tell me the important stuff anyway.

I dont think Vivendi just guessed of a date, Valve must have informed them in some way, but that isnt an assurance, if Valve feels they have to change something....well then they will

And i love it :D

Subkamran, Ferd; Thats the spirit!

Sprafa; Thats... not really the spirit..?

What do you dislike about them, and what´s not good? I can´t say I love gamespy, but the IGN editors let their character show through in reviews etc, and are kind of funny..

Admit it, you just dislike them to be cool... :p

Sorz personally i don't like IGN or Gamespy because they just seam manufactored to me, all I see is a text book example of how to make a gameing website with less soul than something that crawled from under Bill Gates bed sheets. I can't put up with constant advertisements and invitations to pay them money for whatever hopeless and unecessary service there offering now. The reviews are way to forgiveing and for the most part fail to hold my attention because I just know that if I had actually played the game i would most likely be disagreeing with them. I really don't think these types of website are even supposed to appeal to people like me, plus I'm a Penny Arcade fan boy and feel it is my duty to slander anything they don't like.

I'd have to be inclined to believe this April release date more, now that Vivendi has published this. Although it's odd that it's coming out in such an obscure way. It still wouldn't surprise me that HL2 won't be out until the Summer.

I am starting to not believe the release date even if Gabe says it himself

If HL2 isn't released in April VU games will probably cut fundings for VALVe and there won't be any HL2 so I guess it's the date they say...isn't it?

HL2 is funded 100% by valve remember... they're all millionnaires now.

valve won't disappoint the most dedicated of gamers twice...
it ships in April.

firstly wheres your proof that Hl2 is funded by Valve?

im amazed cos they would be the only games company ever to make a game with their own money.

They've said it several times.
And they wanted to develop the game independently from a pushy publisher that wanted to ship the game as soon as possible. When you fund your own game, the publisher has nothing to say. If it was up to Vivendi, we would have seen HL2 3 years ago I think.

Heh... and it would be pretty crap, I'd bet. Vivendi don't seem all that savvy to me.

Release dates... or rather total lack of them, bah. Then again, dev's can't win... if they talk or release content they're told to get back to work, if they do the opposite people moan and whine about PR silence.

Still, until Gabe himself lays out a date I won't believe it. 'Course, after the September 30th fiasco, I'm not even certain about that
