There's a great band out there called Godspeed You Black Emperor.

On their album Yanqui U.X.O., they have within their album art a list of media corporations and their links to military contractors (then linked to American military politics). Among those corporations listed Vivendi Universal is listed. Is VUG a subdivision of VU?

Thought I'd share it.

Umm... okay.

This failed to inspire hate from me for some reason.

What's wrong with defense contractors? I work for a defense contractor. FYI, we have absolutely nothing to do with military politics. I wouldn't be surprised if VUG is publishing a game being developed for the Army/Navy/Marines. America's Army anyone? I think First to Fight is also official for the Marines. I don't know who is publishing these games though. There's nothing wrong with this.

:O

You mean Vivendi might have a vested interest in helping America defend itself? Those bastards!

maybe we need a vivendi bashing forum. which would actually be a sub-forum of the general bashing forum.

Die bush die!
We need money, and yet bush is a evil bastard giving money away to 3rd world nations.
Don't get me wrong, but half of them HATE US, and i mean maybe if we wernt a few trillion(or billion) in debt i wouldn't mind..
Stupid bush.

Vivendi should stop helping us with our all ready "one of the best militarys in the world" and help valve get HL2 to us. Stupid vivendi, should burn in hell..

That pic is your evidence? Not that theres anything there that we sould be worrying about (if its true or not) exept maybe that everything in the world links back to thier album name. Have to kinda question thier credibility when they put themselves at the center of the universe.

Point 1:
Seriously dude, know what you're talking about before you start posting political crap. The only people we are in debt to is ourselves. We don't owe any other country jack. As for giving to third world countries, I agree it should be curbed, but it wasn't Bush who implemented all of this. It's a little organization called Congress, and they vote on this kind of thing. I'm sick and tired of Bush being blamed for everything from the economy to jobs to ****ing Iraq. Yes, he supported going to war there (as do I), but he never could have done it without CONGRESS. Blaming one man for the shortcomings of a nation is immature, unintelligent, and just plain naive. So please at least attempt to post an educated opinion next time instead of useless whining. Thus endeth the soap box.

Point 2:
Vivendi is not helping with the military.

I'll just hate Vivendi for being French.

And the Half-Life 2 thing.

Vivendi is a large, behemoth corporation that exists merely to soak up other companies. They're yet another Borg of corporate America. In one of their most recent acquisitions, they swiftly took over Houghton Mifflin, the last major independent educational publisher in the country. Excellent. Now school children will probably be seeing movie and video game advertisements in their revisionist U.S. History books.

We ought to be awfully damned concerned about large conglomerations sucking up every company they can get their hands on, particularly when they try to control media companies.

Moreover, Vivendi has a pretty ruthless way of doing business. After a long battle with MP3.com (remember the my.mp3.com service?), Vivendi decided they would just buy silence and acquire MP3.com. Really sneaky, those Frenchmen. Remind you of any companies named Microsoft?

If that weren't enough, Vivendi has even threatened the owner of VivendiUniversalSucks.com, which points to this page. Although they have no legal grounds for such a threat, they believe they can unethically bully ordinary citizens into giving up legitimate first amendment speech against them.

It's time to say no to companies like Vivendi, who use illegitimate legal threats, questionable business practices, and other indefensible means to get their way.
