Being British and in no way wishing to provoke an agreement all I see from the trailer is “How America is going to save us all ".

I will watch the movie and no doubt cringe at the cheesy clinches and hold my head in my hands as the stars and stripes fly at the end.

Hollywood, Spielberg, Tom Cruise......?

Did somebody mention London.....?

Please I hope I’m wrong but another America saves the world again movie, do we need it?

Some of the dumbest shit ive heard from anyone comes from you baxter. Am I supposed to reply with all Brits have bad teeth? I really dont know what to say...all this godamn trailer shows is a freeway exploding and a mini van, if you think this is an America saving the world movie then your retarded.

Wait a second...maybe I should take what you say as a compliment... as I guess there is truth in the fact that America really is the only country that saves and helps so many people...all I can give you guys is World War II...great job.

Now that last part is sarcasm but next time listen to yourself think and realize how stupid you sound.

This is Spielberg we're talking about here, not Uwe Boll. :D

I know, but the director is only as good as the material he has to work with, and let's face it, the whole "Invasion Earth" type scenario seems to bring out the worst in directors.

Also remember most of the money that fund movies with any type of large budget is American, and movie producers are far more likely to jump on a WotW script for a Spielberg-Cruise production taking place the U.S.A. as oppose to a period setting in England by a British director.

What was stopping the British from making it? British directors should have jumped on the chance a long time ago. Your loss. Just because its American makes it bad?

Sorry but this film as already been made by the British a long time ago and by the way the author HG wells was British.
I didn't say that because it is America it would be bad. I speculated that it would be cheesy and cliché and I hope I am proved wrong.
What I was saying is that this movie will, like all big Hollywood movies cater to the American audience.
I have no doubt that it will be a special effects bonsai and be a massive box office hit but please....America doesn’t save the world again.

Just posted another reply before I saw your remarks. I said and I repeat that I did not wish to provoke an agreement but I take exception to being called a retard and stupid.
I made a genuine comment on the trailer.
I won't even take you on regarding WW11 as that is another matter.
I will ask you and only you to reply, do you really believe that the rest of us belief the same way as you? Do you really think that Britain and the rest of Europe swallow the American film industry?
Believe it or not pal we actually have minds of our own and can actually make decisions and opinions by ourselves.
If your only reply is further insults don't bother.

Dont worry... in 10 years time, they'll be a WotW's remake because Hollywood cant think of anything else to do than rip off previously made films. They'll have another shot at it.

Nothing annoys me worse than people assuming a movie is going to suck against all evidence.
From what we've seen so far Spielberg seems to be sticking pretty close to Wells' original ideas, with the exception of the update in time and setting.
Everyone is so ready to say that this is going to be another war-fest with lasers and army battles and the like, yet in every single bit of promotional material so far there hasn't yet been a single gun, or even a fight for that matter. From what little we do know of the movie it seems its going to be a much different animal than what everyone is so anxious to assume.

Just because it was made long ago means that you can't remake it? Come on. And yes, in a way, you did suggest that because Americans are making it, it would be a bad flick. You used the words cheesy and cliche. If thats not putting down a film, then I don't know what is. Besides, how do you know that America will save the world? It could just be the telling of one man's struggle. Nothing has indicated that America is going to save the world. :|

Nah, if they want the real ending, bacteria save the world.

BTW anyone like Jeff Wayne's war of the worlds?

In the old movie there were no striders, so I don't expect any striders to be in the movie. No one could defeat them until human disease killed Martians.
Oh the older movir thean the old movie, there were War of the Worlds with striders, I guess it's not as popular the old War of the Worlds with not striders but Martian hover crafts.

It can't be that bad, I mean Steven Speilberg made good movies.

I will see it theater definitely I just want to see the new special effects.

What can I say....

YAY

You are correct and I agree with you 100%.
There is nothing wrong with remaking a classic movie and I never suggested there was nor did I, as some have assumed, say that because this movie is set in America it would be rubbish.
Direwolf, I did not say that this movie is going to suck.
I simply stated that to make a cheesy, cliché, America saves the world movie would be terrible.
As I have stated I will watch this movie, without any preconceptions and judge it on its merits, as to whether it appeals to audiences on both sides of the Atlantic will be seen

Uh London was where the War Of The Worlds was based. The movie is putting it in the US because its more "mainstream" or something.

People need to stop judging movies based on nothing. The only true way you can judge a movie is if you go see it. If you dont want to go see it, dont say its bad, just dont go see it or say your not interested.

The Irish will try to fisticuff you for being a relative, so adding a disclaimer like 'I'm part Irish' will probably provoke them :p (My grandmother was Irish...I think alot of people around the north west of England have Irish in their blood)

I think just calling them tripod popcorn makers of doom would suffice as a name.

Uh "mainstream" ,please .............!!

It's true, filming it in the US, with a majority US cast is more appealing to US audiences, film it in the UK, word for word remake of the book, set in the 1890's and you'll have a good deal of the US market not know whats going on, struggle to understand some accents, words and so on.

Just the way things are, you don't make a bollywood movie in Welsh, set in the Welsh village of wryiouwklhglt with welsh dancers and led by the cast of that welsh soap, cause the Indians wouldn't understand it one bit, and you'd have a dud on your hands.

With the money that is, clearly being put into this movie, there must be a return, that return is the box office figures. As you have correctly pointed out the biggest return is the American audience.
This movie will be a massive box office hit. Will it appeal to us all? Including the Welsh dances, I doubt it.
I hope I am wrong, and this movie breaks the Hollywood mould.
Please give us more than than cheesy, cliché Hollywood movies and prove me wrong.

PS By the way before anybody flames up I am not saying that this movie is cheesy, cliche or rubbish.

I didn't like AI at all. The Terminal wasn't that hot either, but wasn't bad though. It had CZ-Jones in it, rawrrrr.

The Terminal had some really likeable characters, and it was interesting to see how this guys survives being in an airport for so long.

AI was a love it or hate it movie. I liked it. There was great use of visual imagery.

Minority Report was a first-class thriller with a who-done-it story that was very sci-fi. Plenty of memorable scenes; great camera work.

Cath Me If You Can was similar to the Terminal because it had a cleverness to it, while still being fun to watch.

In fact, Spielberg is one of the few directors I trust to stay faithful to the novel and deliver a great WOTW film. :D

Well staying true to the novel really became difficult when they changed the location and time period.

Its like at the start of The Anchorman, it says "This movie is based on actual events. Only the names, locations and events have been changed"
