Well, perhaps a few of you knew Modest Mouse was releasing a new album on March 20th, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/We_Were_Dead_Before_the_Ship_Even_Sank, with Johnny Marr, of Smiths fame, playing and even help writing a few songs which concerns me a bit seeing as how...well I don't like Smithian lyrics mixing with Modest Mouse lyrics. I've heard a few songs from the new album and it sounds good so far, but they've lost a bit of their muster since Moon and Antarctica (obvious with the Good News album).

I doubt many of you know Modest Mouse was around long before the Good News album, but if you have, share some thoughts.

I dislike Modest Mouse with every fiber of my being. Not because of the band themselves, and not because of the music (which I don't like, but that's not the point), but because of their fans. The ones I know personally in Baton Rouge, at least.

Every time I've asked someone here why they like Modest Mouse, they reply "because they're so different."

This I concede. They are different. But different isn't synonymous with good.

But hey! That's the beauty of music. It's completely subjective! Yay subjectivity(ness?)!!

Well that's a pretty dumb reason not to like a band
I've only heard Dashboard so far, but I really like it. Catchy. I know it's very different from their old stuff, and of course nothing will ever live up to Moon and Antarctica, but I love how they alter their sound a bit on their new albums

Probably the new fans from Good News fallout. My friend went to a MM concert in LA and the people there only responded whenever they played Float On or Ocean Breathes Salty. Hell, they barely moved when Johnny Marr came out. If they play like Cowboy Dan or Grey Ice Water, they just stand there unresponsive. And some people still don't know they have about 7 other albums and EPs.

But hey, its cool if you don't like Modest Mouse. Like you said, subjective.

I've heard Fire it Up which is like an upbeat version of Grey Ice Water and Invisible in Your Car which ain't bad.

You're a poor reader. I don't like the band because I don't like their music.

I dislike them with every fiber of my being because of their fans.

I think good news is pretty underrated, im looking forward to this new release.

Been a Modest Mouse fan since high school, and its been pretty cool to watch their rise to popularity, which I'm not sure ANYONE predicted (I would have bet money against it). They went from being once of the bands that made people ask what the hell I was listening to, to being a well known name in the space of a few months. I anticipate any new release by them, and this looks to be pretty good to boot.
