Has ne1 seen evidence to any weather effects in HL2? I remember reading that Source can do volumetric fog and stuff, but I can't remember any shots of rain etc. Can ne1 confirm or direct me to images?

And are weather effects important to you?

Imagine rain falling on that awesome HL2 water.... schweet :bounce:

The only weather effects we've seen are in the Aztec CS:Source rain, I think.

CS:CZ & DoD have snow and rain... so hl2 can prolly make it to

Hell, even MY mod has rain! :p

(By my, I mean *our* ;) )

Well I consider wind to weather & you can see that quite clearly when Gordon steps out of the train in the new movie. I bet we'll see some rain too. Doubt we'll get snow unless something weird happens in-game.

Would be cool if the raindrops bounced off the guns though :)

Weather effects would be a cool thing to have in HL2 but I wouldn't care if there wasn't anything like rain. Fog would be good enough.

I'd love to see some rain and other weather effects in the game. They just do sooo much for the atmosphere.

not if your sitting behind a low-end pc and the rain lowers your fps to 10

i think there will be rain for sure.
We didn't see any in half life. But i think we will in hl2. Ie the cemertry scene would be cool at night with wind and rain! give more of a scary feel to it

I'm prolly sure you could switch the weather effects off.

It would be great if the weather could change randomly as sunny weather being the most common.

In the various movies, weather effects are allready visible. Maybe not rain, but definitely other effects. There is allready fog (when u walk with father Gregory), and when u sit on that hovercraft thing, the sun has an effect on the gameplay, because u r sometimes blinded by it.
I think if they have the weather as an integral part of the engine (Because it look freakin' awesome), they won't leave rain out of it.

The rain looks awesome from the source, the sound of it hitting stuff is so real, you get that quality dripping on wood noise really crisply. Perfect for the mood.

Wouldn't be any problem making rain with hammer etc

cl_weather 0 :D

Gabe did say something about a lot more console commands being avaliable...

after playing DX:IW and T3 i want water so badly, the more rain the better.

explain...?

I haven't played either of those, no water...?

Yeah, its probably safe to say that the engine is capable of rain. But hey, maybe in the game they will be in the dry season? I dont know, there is a dried up sea bed, wouldnt want the rain refillin that now would we... ;)

shit, I never thought of that. The dried sea-bed... perhaps water is in short supply..

:bounce: starts rain dance :bounce:

I don't know but i surely hope that there will be rain in the game.

You know the scene with the crane (e3_2004)? It looked rather dull with just the clear blue sky. Having rain and/or fog in that scene would look great.

How about 3d raindrops with the water shader instead of sprites? oooooooh!

yeah, those prerecorded .wav's of some rain sound so realistic! [/sarcasm]

you can see the rain in the bloodlines screenshots and in the cs source trailer, its not all that great.

Don't forget Morrowind. That game had some foksy rain & water too ;)

The day when games won't need prerecorded sounds and in some way make the polygons or whatever create it's own sounds from inside the engine without any real reference (quite an impressive physics engine if someone can pull that off) & when humans stop using techniques like polygons (and no I don't mean going back to pixels/sprites or the tech used in Delta Force either) to create graphics, then I'll dance :)

Hopefully as well they will include weather like in Operation Flashpoint, better known as the greatest game ever.

If you stood in the same place for a long while it would slowly change into the afternoon then pitch black night.

yeah and the whole sky rotates like in real life. That game rocks.

Anyway apparently i read in the Valve Info thread that there is a tornado in a scene in HL2 :D

The story takes place over 3 consecutive days. Not sure how much wether you would/should pack into that.

They said they created one to test the physics, not that it'd be in the game

if you are able to turn off weather in MP, its really not worth having in mp. i mean the point of rain beyond just looking cool would be to make battles more interesting and tougher. if you could turn it off and on, everyone will eventually just have it off because most everyone migrates to the easiest method of killing someone.

I'd love to see snow in HL2, man that'd be the shit, it's snow's a shit load in Eastern Europe, it would make sense.

The best sounding rain I've ever heard was in Max Payne 2 second level where you go inside the warehouse and the sound emulates raindrops on corragated iron.

The rain in Mafia was good. When you went out to that farmhouse and your just walking around in the rain was scary stuff.

aah ok. Still i hope they have it in the game. A man can dream can't he?

The only water fx we have seen so far, is in one of the BINK vids, and inf the CS:S vid, and in both cases, the water looks superb, especially in the BINK vid, the water made a very realistic impression.
That means, no fluo blue, shiny water with sparkles like in FC :x

Imagine, with these days gfx, a heavy snowstorm...where you can barely see...it would be cheating if you could turn it off :p

not a freakin drop, apparent;y nobody swims in the future or in fantasy medievil castles.

Sort of on topic: I swear I've heard something about a plug-in that simulates real-time weather. Y'know, if you're playing at 3:00am, the game is played at night time. If it is raining while you play, it rains in the game. Most likely I'm way off on this one, but I remember thinking, "Wow, I gotta get that shit."

Good day.

only absolute ****wahs do that, i never played a game with nay of the effects turned off or any short cut and (this is bragging but i'm genuine) i always caned. I was a cs don, until 56k wasn't good enough and cheaters flooded its halls.

Yea, I'd really like to see a map using weather effects to really draw you in, not just to add atmosphere, but really to add a sense or urgency and fear. I imagine a DoD: Source (or DoD 2) map, where rain pours down in giant sheets, everythinng is muddy and you can barely see 20 metres in front of you.
