WEEKLY ART CONTEST: WEEK 23

Formally known as the Weekly Photoshop Contest

Congratulations to dux^ for winning last week's contest with 37.31% of the vote!

This is a regular contest on the boards. Every week a staff/forum member will choose a topic, then you show off your image creation, editing and drawing skills.

You will have FIVE days to enter your piece(s), followed by TWO days to judge the submissions.

The contest will end at ~12PM Saturday Afternoon (Central Time), judging will begin straight after.


No exceptions this time!



RULES
These are fixed for the contest, they will not change for the duration of it.[/b]

1.) Only posts with submissions in them will be allowed in this thread. DO NOT discuss the pictures in this thread, another thread will be made for that.
2.) Serious submissions only, no stick figures.
3.) No pornographic images.
4.) Stick to the topic.
5.) Don't use Screens or models from the beta.
6.) Don't steal other peoples work.
7.) You may have two entries. You can use only one though, if you wish.


8.) Make sure to clearly highlight what number entry yours is.

Design a Weapon
This is your chance to create an item or weapon of some sort that could be used in a game like Half-Life 2. Include a short description about the entry, and how it works.

Thanks to lots of people for the idea

Prizes will not be given out (maybe coming soon!), all you're fighting for here is personal satisfaction and the smug look on your face when you haplessly beat down your opposition!

Here's my entry.

It's two airtanks with uh, internal compressors (I didn't feel like drawing them)

There is a hose that will be hooked up to the tanks, and it's nozzle, with the help of super-future vortech technology, emits a "ray" of compressed air with the power to blast limbs off of your body up to thirty feet away.

There are numerous settings on its remote, such as power, temperature, stream, etc.

EDIT: Some components are digitally altered/painted over photos, but the tanks are completely hand done (er mouse done - I don't have a tablet.)

The Samdyne Systems model R-84 shoulder mounted anti-armor cannon.

Ammunition: 60mm APFSDS (armor piercing, fin stabilized, discarding sabot)
Range: 3000m
Mass: 450kg non-power assisted, 35kg power assisted.
Magazine: 6 round rotary
Rate of fire: 12 rounds/min
Armor Penetration: 50cm/1000m/30 degrees
Power source: Samdyne Systems "Gremlin" micro-reactor.
Power assist system: Samdyne System "Feather-weight" mass and recoil cancellation system
Crew/Operator(s): 1

The Samdyne Systems shoulder mounted cannon was introduced during the Colony Rebellions as a way for the otherwise lightly armed settlers to combat the heavy armor of the Federalist forces.

The Feather-weight mass cancellation system contained in the barrel shroud makes this otherwise unlikely weapon an entirely feasible design and reduces the weight felt by the operator from 450kg to just 35kg. In addition, the system also ensures that the operator feels no more than 50kg recoil for 1/8th of a second when firing.

The ammunition is a fin-stabilized long-rod uranium tipped penetrator fed into the weapons six round clip in a ready to fire state.

Radar, laser, attitude and wind measurements are fed into a targeting computer which makes the necessary adjustments to the optical sights. The net result is that to accurately fire on a distant target, the operator must simply place the reticle over what he wants to shoot and press the trigger.

The weapon is capable of penetrating 50cm of steel at 1000 meters at a 30 degree angle. Due to its mass it is not affected by explosive armor and its speed ensures that anti-missile system have no time to react.

Although this weapon is intended for anti-armor use, there have been several recorded cases of this weapon being fired on infantry. The result in all cases is total disintegration of the target.

The Combine RAV-17 is a heavy assault rifle designed for versatility, reliability, and power. Although its origins are unknown, it is speculated by many that the weapon is a creation of the many secret laboratories in City-17. The weapon's versatility comes from its adjustable rate of fire, with a maximum of 1600 rounds per minute, its range of over 400 meters. Fully loaded the weapon comes in at a decent 5.92 kilograms. A rather mysterious feature of this weapon is its ability to self-produce its own ammo using special types of power cells. Citizens of City-17 say that this is a result of cooperation between the Combine and a mysterious alien presence in the city.

primary shoot: shoot a minimanhack (description in ammo) but not explode, the minimanhack when is shooted start to fly around the person who hold the comandgun and shoot any enemy close, you can shoot a minimanhack directly to a oponent making a lot of damage

comand function: is the orders you can give to the minimanhacks
here are few comands designed by myself

1 squad:the minimanhacks surround the enemye's and atack it in circles to avoid enemye's atacks

2 defense: the minimanhacks regroup and make a barrier protecting the person that hold the comand gun

3 massive atack: all the minimanhacks fly to the enemye's using theyr blades as principal weapon making extremely damage also to the minimanhacks

4 take objects and explore: your minimanhacks can take litle objects whit they diminute arms and give to you, if dont send this comand directly to a object,the minimanhack will enter or go to the place and will explore by itself the place (but will explore in limited range) and if see something strange or moving will make a litle alert, if you make this comand to a alied the minimanhack will protec the allied

secondary shoot: send a signal to a machine and take control of it, but its require time to take control of a enemy machine like manhacks or scanners or a enemy minimanhack, also you cant take control of big machines like striders and gunships, the secondary shoot just confuse for few seconds the bigs machines
if you shoot to a minimanhack that minimanhacks is choosed how to be shooted whit the primary shoot

ammo: minimanhack: a litle flying machine whit spining blades and a litle but useful gun
hav a good resistence to its size but is not indestructible
they always fly around you even if you dont hav equiped the comandgun, but if you dont hav equiped the comandgun you cant give orders
the ammo box carry 4 minimanhacks
the maximun limits of minimanhacks that the gun can control is 10
but you can hav more minimanhacks in ammo boxes and if you hav less thatn 10 in the air you can shoot a new one

i made this quite late at night (its about 1:30 in the morning now) so i kinda couldnt be arsed much. Its pretty crap, i just thought i might as well do something.

everyone else put so much effort into theirs... mines just a... shotgun...thingie... with a scope...

oh well... it kills things. thats what counts.

Yay for open source 3d packages!

Anyway...Since everyone else was making the high-tech sort of weapons, I made something maybe a little more down-to-earth, something Gordon may just find a lot of.
